This is just a couple of pictures of my unit that got flooded. These are actually quite mild, compared to alot of other peoples houses. Luckily I was only renting so it wasn't so bad to start over. But it was stilled pretty effed up. I'm strangely fascinated by the whole thing.
I left work early at about 12pm, we packed up what we could and the water started rising aroun 2pm. We left around 4pm and stayed at a friends house. We went back later that night around 6pm and the water was under the windows of our units. The next morning around 4am, the water was just about over the roof, it eventually engulfed the whole place. The water stayed at that level for 2 days I believe. I will never forget the awful smell when we first walked into the unit after the water went down. If that creek wasn't so close, maybe it wouldn't have been so bad? We were going to stay, we didn't think it would be this bad. Luckily some friends of ours let us stay with them. Alot of people who own homes, are still rebuilding, but getting there. I think about them everyday. I am so grateful that noone I love and care for, lost their lives.
All of these units (18 in total) have been rebuilt and people are living there again. I'd love to go back, because they were so close to shops and the train. But I think it be wise to stay away.
