Final Fantasy III introduced the job system to the series. It is not as advanced as FFV's but it is still nice being able to create different party combinations. I would put FFIII's story a little bit above the original's, especially the DS version since they changed the Onion Knights to actual characters giving them some story. It has the pure fantasy feel that I got from FF as well. Give it a shot.

I am sending this via VM, because I don't like to have conversations through forum posts. I have finished Final Fantasy V, though I have never mastered all the Job Classes. I am now starting a playthrough in both the GBA version and PS1 version.

I didn't know about the ability combinations. Normally I just choose a Job, master it, and move on to the next one.
