The Seven Samurai is simply stunning. There's Toshiro Mifune for starters, and Akira Kurosawa directs so immediately you've got awesome. The fight scenes are not as busy as today's, but the way the swordsmen fight against gunmen, spearmen and archers is very realistic. That film was also the inspiration for the Magnificient Seven western.
My niece loves Samurai Seven, Kyuzo in particular. However, she hates Seven Samurai because it's got a very down ending. When she mentioned that anime I didn't know what she was talking about! I also love anime, but haven't seen Sam 7 too many times.

Ahhhh, still cool. Kyuzo was awsome. I have never seen the original film but I had looked up Samurai 7 on wikipidiea and I then had herd about the Seven Samurai movie and still want to see it.

Close, actually! My name comes from that character's original inspiration: the grim, purposeful samurai Kyuzo from Akira Kurosawa's awesome 50's film "The Seven Samurai." He is a very cool character who is both deadly and gracious. The funny thing is, the actor who portrayed him had NO experience with swords, so Kurosawa had to use unusual angles and editing to make him appear a master !
