I recommend paint.net personally. Easy to use, relatively powerful and best of all, free. The big part is playing around with it long enough to get a good idea of how things work.

I liked the bottom one with my name on it best. I think the background needs to be more... Colourful. Also, would you be able to put an outline around the villains. Kinda so it looks like light shining? Is that possible? I like them, though. Positioning is gooooooood. =]
