One of my favorite lines ever; an angry Harrison Ford tells off the President of the United States of America. "How dare you, sir!" I don't exactly remember the plot of the movie. I know Jack Ryan went down to South America, where a bunch of US soldiers were, and some terrorist was there as well. The US soldiers were angry with the US government, and also with Ryan, because he was at fault in some way for their predicament. I also remember that the President was very egotistical and not very good at his job. That's what I recall from Clear and Present Danger. I also recall that it was an awesome movie. Did I fall asleep during it, though? It was like 1 o'clock in the morning when we started it, and I'd had a few beers... been two years now as well, so the details should be foggy.
The movie before that, Patriot Games, was pretty awesome too, although I think I recall liking Clear and Present Danger better. Jack Ryan saves the life of the... Prince of England? And kills a terrorist in the process. that was Sean Bean's brother, and now Bean is pissed off. I was struck by how old this movie was, and at how big a roll Sean Bean had; he was like the main bad guy, and this was years before he played the roll of Boromir in LotR. I hadn't known he'd existed before LotR! I'd thought he'd just magically appeared to play the roll! This movie also featured Samuel Jackson in a supporting roll before he was famous. Both movies had James Earl Jones. He was even in the first movie, The Hunt For Red October...
I tried to watch The Hunt For Red October last night. I got through about the first hour of it, then fell asleep and watched the last ten minutes of it. Apparently Russia has developed a submarine that cannot be tracked, with the capacity to launch hundreds of missiles before ever being detected. Sean Connery has other plans for this submarine, however. The opening theme music to this movie is incredible. Again, I was struck by the famous actors; Tim Curry, Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park (Sam Neill) and even Jeffrey Jones (y'know; the Principal from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Took me a second to recognize him.) I woke up just in time to see...So pretty much I missed the entire plot of the movie. I'll have to watch it again some time, and watch The Sum of All Fears.
Spoiler: Doctor Grant die, and Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin chasing the cook to the other side of the ship.
One time I tried to read the book Patriot Games, but I could not; the first ten minutes of the movie take like 50 or more pages in the book, it seemed. Although it was kind of interesting anyway, but my genre of interest is generally fantasy.
So who would win in a fight; Jack Ryan or Jack Bauer? ...probably Jack Bauer. That guy is crazy. Biting people in the neck to kill them... Ryan would probably have a better chance against Jack Shephard, though. Anyhoo...
