LOTR's. It was really great to see something that didn't involve flying around in a ****ing space ship and running around with a little green man.
...Wow, necro-posting! Was there a rule against this? I don't see one! Good on ya, kiddo.

I'd have to go with Star Wars. I liked LOTR's, but the movies are all about 3 hours each and they just go on to long for me. They're all good, but I find that they just drag out for to long. Star Wars are roughly say 2 hours each, but they are all very good as well. I like the music, story and ending more in Star Wars anyway. I mean it's pretty epic for father and son to be fighting, cliche it may be, but it's done well therefore I couldn't say that I care. both are good trilogies, but there's no question for me, Star Wars all the way.
Where's the freakin Matrix ????
C'mon now.
If this is only about Star Wars and LOTR i pick LOTR. I was in love with the books when I was younger and have read them each probably 8 times. It was incredible seeing all the things I had pictured in my mind put into such beautiful cinematic art. Sure, there were a few details cut out but it pretty much captured the story perfectly. I never tire of those films.
And yes, I have seen the Star Wars movies. I never really got into them. I was a trekkie growing up so I kind of turned myself off to the competition.
Oh, and by the way. Matrix. Best Trilogy Ever. I'll add my 2 cents later if its within the scope of this thread's designation.
Yeah, I liked the matrix ^^
But since I wud choose star wars, by a slim margin.
I dunno, the characters is Starwars are much more
loveable!... Uhm, besides Legolas.
Now I wanna see a fight between Legolas and Anakin
... O.O
I think I would have to go with the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I love both but I think the LOTR films are stunning to watch. The battle scenes are intense and amazing, it looks realistic. They are such wonderful movies with talented actors and Peter Jackson is a great director. I watched a marathon of it in the cinemas and it was just a thrill to watch all together. Some of the scenes are very emotional with lots of meaning behind them. They are just terrific movies in my opinion. They were made so well and are very entertaining to watch. The characters are all portrayed quite well and some of the locations where they filmed the movies are beautiful. Return of the King is one of my favourite films, it's excellent! My Mum is obsessed with Lord of the Rings too lol. She has a huge crush on Aragorn LOL!
I love Star Wars too, plenty of action and entertaining to watch also. I got into Lord of the Rings before Star Wars. I have only become a fan of it recently so I'm going to have to say Lord of the Rings is better. The newest Star Wars movies are okay but they're not the best. The originals are awesome.
Well i hate Star Wars and i like Lord of the Rings so you dont even have to guess what i voted for lol.
I'd have to go with Star Wars on this -- but the originals, not Episodes 1-3. They're much more "classic" than LOTR, and the movies are better than the books -- I think the LOTR movies are good, but not as good as the books, and not as good as Star Wars.
Yeah the books are better but the movie are good for the little scenes of action.
Well i dont think "Geroge Lucas's: Star Wars" exists.
Only joking, i vote for LOTR because it is far better and the films are closer in time to each other.
LOTR was decent. The epic that was made seemed a little wasteful.
Star Wars... well, the new ones are horrible. A last stab at the nerd community's pocketbooks.
The Matrix.... should have been one movie.
Any three Indiana Jones films beat all you people have talked about.
^This man knows what he speaks of.
Indiana Jones is the undisputed greatest trilogy ever. Each movie is as good as the other and how can you not love Indy and his will to ruin all plans that the nazis concieve. I don't care what anybody says, Harrison Ford will never be too old to make another Indy film.......unless he dies of course......which may happen soon. ;!
Necro-posting is the best \m/
Personally I am going with LOTR series as I've always had an obsession with Feudal era kind of Fantasy's. I saw the SW series years ago but I never got caught into the whole futuristic thing. I would put the Matrix 2nd if it was there, a great unique trilogy.
I would say LOTR, it was very cool but I didnt like the ending that much it was sort of weird in a way, about Frodo going. I didnt like that, and it was pretty normal, not too much action at the end.
Look to the Encore/Starz channels if you want your LOTR fix because they won't be airing on HBO for sometime now.Quote:

I can't decide really, they both deserve recognition =)

And one of my many obsessions is Star Wars.
Star Wars didn't have dramatic music and cheesy scenes? That's what makes it so good.
LOTR for me. Star wars is close, but LOTR takes it all for me. It's just so well done.
I dunno, i'd rather be a jedi wielding a lightsaber than be some random person out of a heroic group able to single handedly defeat 1000000 orcs without having to once use the toilet...if they had back then?
Personally, i thought LotR was just another cheesy and hollywood cliche fight. I mean it was like this in a nutshell.
"Oh noes, we are vastly outnumbered and will get uber pwnt by these gigantic...and well...much more of better fighters, and repugnant evil looking orcs. Yet...if we somehow manage to destroy some completely powerful small piece of jewlery which has survived oxidation reactions and everything realistically chemical, by climbing a mountain and just dropping it in lava...we wins!"
Sigh...honestly?
I prefer star wars because of how dramatic it was, while staying a bit realist on the story sense. By this i mean, the fall of jedis was immenent yet it proved that the most evil person always has a bit of goodness in him....except the emperor...he can eat my fecal dumps...
Yays for Chewbacca!
as i quote Kevin Smith on this one "LOTR is just walking!" "(this was said during a forum with KS and then added to Clerks 2)
it's true... they literally walked from one side of the world to the other. there was no epic-ness about it. star wars on the other hand is one epic adventure with the struggle between father and son, backstabbing and deceit, trust and loyalties, i mean, star wars has it all!
To also quote Clerks 2 :"There was only one return, and it was not of the king, it was of the Jedi."
While LOTR was an amazing story, with some of the greatest fantasy elements... honestly people, WALKING! Walking and a somewhat questionable, slightly homosexual hobbit relationship. While all the badass elves and warriors and kick ass Gandalf were fighting to secure the freedom of Middle Earth, these two were walking around with evil jewelry playing grab ass all over the world.
Star Wars had such a dramatic and intense story, character development, and let us not forget... The Force. And no one can dare say that a sword fight in LOTR can even touch a Lightsaber fight. It just can't be done.
Oh for goodness sakes, they weren't in a homosexual relationship, and if they were.. who cares?! They were best friends who went on a journey together and ended up destroying the ring. They ended up saving Middle Earth basically. I don't remember Tolkien writing about them being in a homosexual relationship anyway, they had been through a lot together and of course it made them better friends in the end.
There wasn't just walking, there was a lot of other stuff in there too. I just loved everything about those films, they were magical. Star Wars to me is pretty meh compared to LOTR in my opinion. I like Star Wars and think it's pretty neat and I also own the DVD's but I just don't think it's that great compared to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. :D
The fighting scenes in The Two Towers and Return of the King were fantastic! Very intense and entertaining to watch. LOTR FTW! :)
Well, the Rebel Alliance were certainly underdogs in a BIG way too and their eventual victory over the Empire isn't any more (or less) realistic than the demise of the might of Mordor at the hands of the Free People of Middle Earth. But then again, we're talking high fantasy here and some of the more fanciful of sci fi. Realism shouldn't really be a criteria from which to measure quality.
Personally I prefer Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy. It is based on one of the finest works of litterature ever written, and personally I find the universe and atmosphere much more appealing and the storyline and characters to be much better thought out. There were no annoying characters with no other purpose than comic relief (which wasn't even funny anyway) such as JarJar Binks and those stupid droids. Instead the more light hearted elements of the movies were provided by characters who actually had a purpose and weren't exaggerated like their Star Wars counterparts.
hmmm I'm gonna have to say star wars, i couldnt really get into LotR, the films were way to long. Plus what kid who has seen this film doesn't want a lightsaber?
I didn't vote.
I think that personally as two movies they're simply too different to compare. And they both had good and bad things about them, didn't they? "Star Wars" was just overtly cheesy and "Lord of The Rings"... They're great and all, but they just went too.Damn.Long. I would've been more happy if they'd cut each of the movies down a little and made it a quadrilogy.
But of course, they were both great movies. Storyline, acting and characters. Great. So I really couldn't choose one.
If you enjoy LOTR, it really isn't that hard to sit through it. I didn't really find there were any scenes in the movies in which I was exceptionally bored, and I usually have a hard time sitting through movies.
Also, what's this crap about saying Star Wars is better because it has lightsabers and a better backworld history? What does that have to do with anything? Having a single cool weapon does not make a movie good (also, the lightsaber fights in the first trilogy sucked. C-3PO would move as majestically as they did) and the backstory has nothing to do with it. None of the expanded universe of Star Wars has anything to do with George Lucas and certainly nothing to do with the either of his trilogies themselves.
Star Wars does have a great back story and I love the world it is set in far more than LOTR, but the movies themselves are nothing compared to LOTR. There's a reason LOTR has a good dozen more Oscars than Star Wars.
I'm gonna have to say LOTR. I could never get into Star Wars like everyone else, but I watched all the episodes. I liked Star Wars's ewoks, Darth Vader, and Han Solo.. that's about it. LOTR on the other hand is not sci-fi(I've never been a big sci-fi fan). Although I have never read the books(except for The Hobbit), I enjoyed the movies.
The only reason that i am saying to LOTR is that i have been a huge fan of the books since i was 8, and had been anticipating the movies for years. I loved both triligies but am def. more fond of the more midevil style films. plus i have seen starwars way to manytimes growing up, kinda lost its force so to say. and the release of pts 1 & 2 kinda killed starwars for me, i hated them both....
Ow a tricky question, I like them both very much.
But if I really have to pick one, it would be Lord of the Rings.
The story's better and more complex (I like complex movies)
And the way everything is made, its soo pretty.
Yeah, I like Lord of the Rings better

Agree
Anyways I have to disagree with like everyone on here, and have to say that the best trilogy ever was "Back to the Future"
Oh and please correct me if I wrong but wasn't it also the first movie trilogy?
Sure there wasn't really any action in it, but it didn't need it. It was just pain old Great.
Now out of the LotR and SW, I have to go with Star Wars.
peter jackson's lord of the rings hands down.
star wars was in fact;great!
but lord of the rings was just so much better.
its one of mine all-time favourites.the movie and the games,The games are also much better than the star wars ones,i loved the third age and return of the king so much.battle of middle earth(PC) is also awesome!!
The graphics where very satisfying,And so where the costume designs. :woot:
also,I think the POTC(pirates of the Caribbean) trilogy is better than the star wars trilogy too.Its action and comedy all rolled up in one!I was laughing through all of them,my favorite one was at worlds end out of the POTC trilogy.
