Breaking Tech News: Crysis Performance Bug Discovered!

Yes, the people at Anandtech.com have finally got Crysis, the most technologically advanced game to date, to be playable with the ultimate texture quality settings at a 1920x1200 resolution (0 AA/AF). Odd thing is... IT DIDN'T REQUIRE OVERCLOCKING. Here's some dirt on their monster rig:

    • Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 at 3.2GHz (1500 USD)
    • nVidia nForce 790i SLI motherboard (500 USD)
    • 2x nVidia GeForce 9800 GX2s in Quad SLI (1200 USD)
    • nVidia Forceware v174.74 drivers
    • Crysis with Patch v1.2
    • Seagate 7200.9 120GB 8MB buffer 7200rpm drive (<100 USD)
    • Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit Edition, Vista required for Tri and Quad SLI (400 USD)
    • DDR3-10666 (1333MHz) memory with 9-9-9-24 latencies (<500 USD)

Anyhow, they achieved 58.6 fps on the highest settings, a miracle if I've ever seen one! If you can't afford quad SLI, they also got playable framerates with Tri-SLI GeForce 9800 GTX's (900 USD), cranking out a respectable 49.1 fps.

Their secret? They opted not to force V-sync off in the nVidia Control Panel, they've discovered there is a driver issue which results in a 25% performance hit. nVidia themselves confirmed their discovery.

Regardless, the most technological game to date is now fully playable on uber high end rigs. Sure, almost no one can afford a QX9770 + nForce 790i + Quad/Triple SLI GeForce 9800, but in six months to a year, we should be seeing mid range products with performance like this!
