Hmm, good stuff, although I'm not really into Katakylsm. Just couldn't get into the groove of it. I heard clips. Maybe I should actually buy it and then judge it more.

Why does everybody say that about metal? I'm done trying to understand the "fury" thing now. Although Meshuggah and Anaal Nathrakh are good in the adreneline pumping area.

EDIT: @ Mr Spike; LOLZ!! Oh man, the nineties make me blush. It's not a good thing.

Here is an interesting question: Who do you think had the best debut album?

I think System of a Down self-titled album is simply amazing. wicked sound, awesome guitar riffs, great drum beats, sweet vocals, it has it all. I believe this is the most entertaining "head-banging" album!

Godsmack self-titled album is another great album. This album is the start to the Godsmack legacy (now four albums long) and is an excellent thumbnail print of all succeeding efforts. With pumping guitars and amazing vocals, This album has sold more than 5 million copies to date.

Evanescence debut album "Fallen" is one of the best albums I've ever purchased this year. It's been a long time since I haven't heard a group with such enthusiastic and excellent balance. This album has simply rocked my world and it showed the world just how great this band is.

I think Nirvana's Bleach was as perfect as any debut album can get. It had not a single song I didn't like. And it was released the year I was born. 1989.

Pearl Jam's 10 was also a great debut album in my mind. All those songs are classics, even if I did overall prefer Vitalogy. That said, Vitalogy was a mixed basket for me. Had some really awesome songs, also had a few I didn't care for as much...

That's all I can really think of in the way of debut albums sadly.
Most of the bands I like I don't really have a clue what their debut album was as they've been around longer than I have, and I never did the research. Another time mayhaps.

Welcome to the club, SouL[of]SiN. ^^

I agree with Omega, Fallen by Evanescence is a brilliant album. It was definitly proof of what talent they have. And I like how much emotion they've put into each song, too. Especially 'Hello'. This song is about Amys' little sister who died at the age of three, and what Amy felt about it. And of course, Amy Lee has a beautiful voice, whether she's singing high pitched or low pitched.

Avenged Sevenfold Self-titled is also up there. A lot of character and different styles packed in there, and some amazing riffs too. Also, M. Shadows vocals were at their very best on this album I believe.

Riot! - Paramore. Although poppy, I really liked this album. It's very different from both albums stated above as Paramore come form a very different genre, but this album can really lift your spirit. Hayley Williams' voice is so unique - Brill.

I can't think of any others at the moment...might edit it later.

I think Coal Chamber's debut album was just about perfect in every way. Every song in that album was awesome. Even today when I hear any songs from that album it gets my head banging and my feet tappin (even though I've listened to every song on that album a thousand times over).

    Best debut albums......

Lacuna Coil's Comalies would be their best debut album. From the beginning of the song, "Swamped" all the way to the end of "Comalies", this song is perfect from start to finish. This is the album that made them well-known and it's how Cristina's amazing voice and Andrea's powerful vocals blend in at times and form this ethereal sound.
[Their self-titled EP is really nice too. I recommend going from Comalies to Unleashed Memories then In A Reverie then that.]

Another band I would have to say is Angelspit's Krankhaus. Their industrial sound and intriguing lyrics is what makes me like this album a lot. An example would be from on of the songs, "Wreak Havoc"...

Brutal acts of sapiens leave Jehovah in disgust
creative acts of clever monkeys leaves the devil envious
Add up all of Hades' blessings Total all of heavens' curse
Let you know we've done it better Horrifically we did it worse

...I am the 6th son of the 6th son of the 6th son I am the borged again son of war
Technology's child, daughter of rebellion, son of a bitch blossom of a whore
I am a god-killing virus, destruction with 8 arms, monster with seven severed heads
I am the son of mars, cleansed with infected blood, vile disease walking on 2 legs...

...I am beyond god I am human I am the razor blade on the communion tray
I am a freak in control not a control freak, I am the sheep that got away,
I am burning but never consumed, determined with nothing to lose
I am who I am who I am who I am who am I?"...
Yet to this day I still don't know exactly what the song is about. If anything, I'm guessing it has to do with humanity and how we're beyond god himself or even the devil. But that's my take on it. This isn't a religion club.

And Disturbed's "The Sickness" was a really good debut album. Althought I do find some of their stuff from their album constantly being overplayed. (I.E. "Down With The Sickness", it's a great album. Both musically and lyrically.

    Best debut album?

Hmmm thats a tough one, its hard to pick an all time best, but perhaps the most recent one would be Wolfmother's self-titled debut album. A great album through and through, not a single song that doesnt fit or let me down. And so different from anything thats around nowadays...very Zeppelin-esque

I was just wondering, anyone a real fan of video game soundtracks at all?

Personally, I love the Final Fantasy soundtracks, but then there's also a few others such as the Shin Megami Tensei (thought I currently only own the one for Digital Devil Sage 2), Beyond Good & Evil (which Ubisoft released free for download) and I also like a good amount of OCRemix's songs (despite them really being fan made and not original soundtracks).

Most of my soundtracks I love for the music, yet some just remind me a lot of the game in question. It's not uncommon for me to think it's the associated memories and not the music itself I love in a few cases...

I like listening to the Final Fantasy X soundtrack, but I'm afraid I haven't really played enough games to listen to any other soundtracks >.<

But yeah, the FFX soundtrack is beautiful. I especially love 'A Fleeting Dream'. I listened to that one for ours in the theatre lol. Also, the end theme was a tear-jerker. It was like a mixture between The Hymn Of The Fayth and To Zanarkand, only an orchestra version. It was really fitting for the actual ending of the game because it was really sad, and the song kind of gave off that feel to it.

    Err...Video I found of it on Youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPMFXfNk1IM

I do like the Sweeny Todd movie soundtrack. Some of the songs really tickle me, especially 'The Worst Pies In London'. XD

Video game soundtracks - i liked a fair few off of Burnout 3, and Final Fantasy obviously, but apart from that i've normally found that game soundtracks are a bit uninspiring and dull. Metal Gear Solid's was alright i guess but aside from those 3 i really can't remember any at all.

As for debut albums..... Omega's right, Godsmack's debut album was fairly immense, some really good stuff in it and very addictive.

Funeral for a Friends debut album, "Casually Dressed and Deep in Conversation" was also a really good for personally. There was alot of diversity among the songs and Matt Davies' voice was excellent.

I detest game music. I really do.

I love movie scores, however. Amélie is my all time favourite, by Yann Tiersen. The Last of the Mohicans, Jurassic Park, Once, The Shawshank Redemption and American Beauty, oh and The Pianist have some of my favourite tunes.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou has a brillant soundtrack - lots of acoustic David Bowie songs sung in Brasilian Portuguese by Seu Jorge. Wonderful. Queen Bitch in particular is excellent in that language.

But game music, no. Whenever I used to play them I'd turn the game sound down and put on my own CD as music, unless there was a cutscene or a bit where I had to listen.

  16. #136
The only videogame i've played where i've actually listened to the music, instead of doing what Pablo does and turned it off, was the Need for Speed series. Not sure you can call that a game soundtrack though since none of the songs were made for it haha.

As for debut albums, Foo Fighters and RATM (both self-titled i think) are definatly up there for me but i rate Ten as one of the best albums i've listened to, and i believe that was a Pearl Jam debut album.

Not sure why anyone wouldn't want to listen to any video game music... you're missing out on some really good music.

I don't really listen to many full video game soundtracks, but the games that I have the most music/songs from are: Akumajo Dracula X, Final Fantasy, Lunar, Ragnarok Online, Silent Hill and The Legend of Zelda.

    Some of my favorites are:

Akumajo Dracula X - Vampire Killer
Final Fantasy VI - Toki no Hourousha (Vocal)
Final Fantasy IX - You're Not Alone
Final Fantasy X - At Zanarkand
Lunar The Silver Star - LUNAR
Lunar The Silver Star - Overworld Arrange 1
Lunar Silver Star Story - Midori no Daichi
Lunar Eternal Blue - Eternal Blue ~ Eien no Omoi
    Ragnarok Online - CheongChoon
Ragnarok Online - Dancing Christmas in the 13th Month
    Ragnarok Online - Erebos' Prelude
Ragnarok Online - Theme of Prontera (Vocal)
Ragnarok Online - Through the tower
    Silent Hill - She
    Silent Hill 2 - Promise
Silent Hill 3 - Please Love Me..Once More
Silent Hill 4 - Room of Angel
The Legend of Zelda - Gerudo Fortress

I also can't believe that despite a discussion about game soundtracks, there's no mention of the Grand Theft Auto series.

Silent Hill soundtrack owns. I love ambience and noise tracks and I guess Silent Hill helped inspire that in me a little.

Oh, and who could forget Metal Gear Solid? Some of the best soundtracks ever in that game. Especially the first of the series. Bootiful.

GTA soundtracks as game soundtracks? Isn't it just songs by various artists?

When I think of game soundtracks, I think of original background music or songs composed just for the game, but that's just my opinion.

I'm not a big fan of the ambience or noise tracks from Silent Hill. They sound good in the game, but not on their own. I like more of the catchy music and eerie sounding songs.

    I agree.

I like listening to some soundtracks when im in the right mood. Final Fantasy soundtracks are always great for me beceause the arrangments are so great and the music is just nice anyway. I mostly listen to FF soundstracks but Breath of Fire soundtracks arent too bad, God of War soundtracks are great among some others.

I would like to join this club, so here is my survey.

What are/is your favorite type(s) of music? I listen to several genres, just less country and contemporary. I guess my favorite music would be classic Rock.

Do you have a particular favorite artist/band? If so, who? This is a very hard question, I suppose it would be Queen though.

How has music affected your life? Everywhere I go, I either have an ipod or mp3 player, or I have music in my head, it keeps me moving. I live off of music. Right now I am listening to Collective Soul's "Shine".

Have any musical talents? I am an awful singer, though I know lyrics to many songs. I never picked up on playing an instrument, although I have been told I have "piano fingers".

What's your favorite song at the moment? I can't answer this, simply too hard a question.

    Thank you for your time.

Yeah, i completely forgot about the GTA music. Some of the music, particularly from Vice City, is excellent, and really gives the game that "classic" feeling.

Although it's rare to see game soundtracks being something to write home about, GTA really did get the best of the era that the game was coming from. San Andreas had such a wide variety of music for different tastes. As for IV - i can't comment as i haven't played it yet.

How about movie soundtracks? I really liked the Matrix soundtrack, among others, more will come to me. How about everyone else?

i utterly loved the entire score from braveheart, the last samuri, beverly hills cop (J/K), orguss02, ghost in the shell, and akira. i could go on for ever with this but i will let it end here.

i've seen quite a few movies that where completely made by the choices of music put into them (outside of horror movies because music almost always sets the tones).
BTW the sweeny todd soundtrack was mindblowing haha

I like the Bleach Anime soundtrack...some of the songs can be really catchy. I'm not usually a fan of Japanese lyrics though, which kind of put me of some of the songs. But still, the beats and tunes of them were really good.

I'd have to say, Pirates of the Carribean has a very catchy soundtrack. As for game soundtracks, I like the FF ones when I can find them around that have good audio quality. (I've had music from a site that replaced all singing with random beeping, wtf?)

I hate how GTA san andreas literally forces rap down my throat. I even chose the rock station as my default station for cars, but every time I get in a new one there's RAP >.> They do have some good rock songs on there, if I can find the time to find the station instead of just shutting the radio off. My Need For Speed game does that, so I just turned off all music and just listened to my own sterio. It's pretty pathetic.
