I've had a chance to read current affairs on screaming.
I listen to maybe five bands with screaming... The rest of my music uses a serious of growls and grunts, which I personally think sounds better.
Screams are common in nu/brutal/some black/heavy and power.

SBM uses a lot of "death noises" with sometimes include screams. They create the appearence that they're dying or being ripped to shreds. I listen in sometimes. The atmoshperic music afterward is worth it.

    Grunting/growling > screaming.

I guess if you planned to scream for a long time, you might need some form of voice training.

The person in my avatar is me.

I don't mind grunting. Its makes some songs pretty cool, Chapter Four by Aveneged Sevenfold for example. I agree with Chezuhnz.

    Grunting/growling > Screaming.

my mucial knowledge expands way ove rnu metal and brutal, i started out listeing to classic metal like sabbath and ACDC, my favouirte style then turned to classic thrash, megadeth, metallica anthrax etc. This still remains my favouirte style. I enjoy a little bit of nu metal but not actually a lot. So lets recap, my range of styles are

    • nu metal
    • death metal
    • thrash metal
    • brutal/deathcore
    • classic metal
    • alternative metal
    • progressive metal

Can't believe I haven't joined this club yet. Consider this my request for joining then and in the spirit of things I'm going to do the mini-survey at the start too just like the good little obedient man I am.

What are/is your favourite type(s) of music?
There are some people out there that would like to say they are open minded when it comes to the music they listen to. I would be one of those people. If I had to pick three genres over the others though I'd say I'd listen to a lot of Classic Rock, Indie and Alternative Rock.

Do you have a particular favourite artist/band? If so, who?
I think it's fair to say I do. I love Queen with an absolute passion. And if Freddie Mercury was still alive today I'm fairly sure the world would be a much rockier and funkier place.

How has music affected your life?
My music got me through some very bad times. It's been well documented about the face I have some very personal issues with family and with my health and when I've had the darker moments I've put on A Night at the Opera and all of a sudden the world doesn't seem so evil and cruel. Some of the more thoughtful Queen tracks got me through events such as dealing with my dad's death a few months ago (It was delayed grief as he'd died almost 12 years before) especially songs like Life is Real. I genuinely don't know how things would have panned out without them. I'm not going to monopolise this great band though, I mean Oasis got me through secondary school and I'd be lost without some of the classic orchestral music out there.

    Have any musical talents?
I used to play Piano quite a bit but I was never as good at that as I was a drummer. I still get on the drums from time to time but my ability to keep rhythm is not what it once was.

What's your favourite song at the moment?
I would have to say a little ditty called Carnival Town by Norah Jones. I love her as it is but it's such an understated and mellow album track. I love it.

    -----------------------------------

    Onto the next bit then.

    What songs/instruments would you choose?

Well narrowing it down is going to be tough I think

    1. Mr Blue Sky - ELO
    2. Pinball Wizard - The Who
    3. Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who
    4. Me & You Vs. The World - Space

    6. Teo Torriate (The Words of Love) - Queen

    10. Tear It Up - Queen
    11. You and I - Queen

Okay, I can appreciate that much. What's your favourite progressive band? I could also recommend to you a bunch of progressive and death bands if you'd like.

Hypocrisy - listened to and liked
Bloodbath - will listen to later
    Fear Factory - good band
Dimmu Borgir - i love dimmu, i've heard of them before
Anaal Nathrakh - will listen to later
Nile - will listen to later
    Xasthur -will listen to later
Aye, glad you liked Hypocrisy, they're definately one of my favourite medolic death metal bands.
And yeah, I thought you'd like Dimmu, I personally don't really listen to them much anymore but I think they're good. Fear Factory are dropping on my list as well, but still, a good band to start out on in the early years of getting into metal.

    The Final Boss Theorem:
The size of the ultimate form of the final boss is inversely proportional to it's chances of actually beating your party. If you agree with this, please copy and paste this valuable piece of info on your sig. AND, if you're evil and villainous...never settle for a big form when a smaller form is more kickass...

I'd buy that not only for the excellent choice of songs, but also for the name.

I wouldn't say that Equilibrium and Immortal are especially arousing, though (particularly the latter, mostly due to the image, hahahah.) I wouldn't think you do, either, I think I would've noticed.

Anyway, I figure since nobody seems to have asked this before:

Do you and your partner have a song or more that you share?

It's a lame question, but I don't have any other ideas right now. I usually find the concept of sharing a song with somebody as a bit silly, but I'm pretty sure Andrew and I have one, I'll post again when I fiugre out what it is, haha.

Oh, Evan and I have a collection!

Firstly, the Beatles' Two of Us for cheese and because it's about a couple having zero money, but generally being content with free things like walks, tea, and one another.

Then came The Velvet Underground's After Hours, which became an 'us' song after we discovered we do an excellent duet of it, myself singing and Dearest Evan on ukulele.

Last year's song was a sad one - Girl From the North Country by Bob Dylan. It's really a beautiful song. Evan played it to me a lot because I was living far away at that time, in the north. I love the lyrics. Please see that she wears a coat so warm, to keep her from the howling wind...

And we haven't picked one for this year yet. . Evan just suggested Ebony and Ivory by Stevie Wonder (feat. Paul McCartney). This has been vetoed.

As I'm being wholly singular at the moment, I'd have to go with mine and Beth's (my best friend) personal highlight. Basically whenever we're upset we have to bang on Chiquitita by Abba of course, simply because it cheers us up no end. And it always makes me think there's people out there worse than me. This is because of the songs' original context - half of the profits from royalties were donated to UNICEF. It's such a lovely song too.

Wow, that's amazing. I'd love to hear that.

Does Evan appreciate Tiny Tim? Please say yes, you two will be my heros forever.

    I may as well answer my own question;

We don't particularly have a song that we share. I knew we were in trouble when Andrew suggested death metal.
Even though we don't really share a song (unless you count a fair few metal songs that nobody here has probably even heard of), we have a lot of songs for each other. We like a lot of different music (within metal, but still), so it's tough to find a song that reminds us of the other.

Favourite song with a sexual theme
I don't usually listen to 'sex' songs, lolzzz.

Favourite song with an angry theme
About 70% of my music is probably considered angry, so it's a toughie.
Anaal Nathrakh - Do Not Speak.
    Hypocrisy - Blooddrenched.

Favourite song with a sad theme
    Krohm - A Lurking Dream.

Skipped all others because I can't be arsed.

I'll reply to this now. XD

1 - Favourite song with a sexual theme
--I don't listen to a great deal of songs that actually discuss sex. I'll go with "Written in Blood" by She Wants Revenge.

2 - Favourite song with an angry theme
--I don't really listen to that much angry music. I'll go for "Heart it all" by Emilie Autumn for now, though. Will edit if I think of something better.

3 - Favourite song with a loving theme
--Let your Silence Sing - ThouShaltNot
    --Your Song - Alessandro Safina

4 - Favourite song with a sad theme
-- Suprisingly.. The truly 'sad' songs that I have, I don't really like all that much... Many of them discuss sad topics, but scrolling through my tracks list I can't really find anything I really love.

5 - Favourite 'feel good' song
--Got a few of these. So, a liiiiittle list.
    - Now I'm Feeling Zombified - Alien Sex Fiend
    - The Love Cats - The Cure

Now I think about it, some of my happy songs consist of the Two Pints and Ugly Betty and Red Dwarf themes. I know that sounds weird, but I love me some comedy when I'm low.

What do think of Christmas songs?
I like older fashioned ones quite a lot.

    Which is your favourite?
I am partial to The Andrews Sisters' "Christmas Island" this year. God knows why.

Which do you hate beyond reason?
    That Slade one. *Shudder.

Which do you prefer, traditional songs/carols or rock/pop/chart/etc christmas songs?
I like a little of everything.
