One of the most F'ed up things I've ever heard.

It goes beyond anything I've ever seen or dealt with fighting people like that.
Normally rapist either let the person go or have enough mercy to end their suffering, especially if they kidnap them... But this goes beyond anything I've ever would think possible.

It's F'ed up in every way you look at it.
"What is it that makes you right over all others? What another tell you does not count."

"You say we are completely different, I believe otherwise.
You claim we are vastly superior, I beg to differ."

It makes you wonder what would cause someone to do that to another person, let alone your own family. That poor woman and her children. I believe the two youngest boys can only communicate in a series of noises, and one walks on all fours due to the environment they were brought up in. It's just really sad that all involved are going to have emotional and mental scars for the rest of their lives because of one man's depraved acts.

I agree winterborn. The death sentence in this case would not be an inappropriate punishment.

I actually read a bit about this the night before last. It's incredibly disgusting and sad. Those poor children have had their senses deprived their entire lives. According to another article I read, they are sensitive to the sun, anemic, the two oldest don't stand up straight (the cellar was only 5' tall), and the boys apparently communicate with their own language of mostly grunts. And I think the 19-year-old daughter in a coma has lost most of her teeth.

He oddly allowed three of the seven children he fathered with his daughter to live upstairs with the rest of the family. And I believe they found a note Elisabeth had hidden in her daughter's clothing when Fritzl brought her to the hospital. That's what I've read, anyway.

This story is unfathomable. I can't imagine it or understand it. Thank God they're rescued, but my goodness, they will struggle for the rest of their lives with this.

If reincarnation is the real deal, then this man... it'll even out.

That poor woman and her children will most proberly have serious health issues for the rest of their lives, and i also agree it was odd that he fathered 3 of em, i also read that one of her children died as a baby and he burnt the body and dumped the ashes in his garden, that was also very sick.

The first time I heard about this, I felt sick and angry - AND I still do every single time I hear about it! People like that don't deserve to have a life. How the f**k could he do that - especially to his OWN daughter!?

I've been hearing alot of stuff like this over the years - the last was a few hours ago reading Love It! magazine, except this woman wasn't locked away in a basement. Every single story like this makes me think about what people are dooing every second ofthe day around the world - as i'm typing this, some poor man/woman/child could be suffering some kind of abuse, and we won't know until its too late.

This man who locked up his daughter... whats gonna happen to him? If he gets life, how long will he suffer in the prison? He is probably old and won't get much of a sentence until his death. He could be executed, but what would that do? The fact that everything has already happened makes it much worse - I'm sure someone would have known what he was doing YEARS before it was found out the other day... Didn't his wife KNOW they had a basement?

I actually read this article on Monday. It's pretty messed up, to say the least.

I actually find it quite odd that the mother supposedly had no idea this was going on. I suppose it's possible, but for 24 years her daughter's living in the basement, with the father providing food and clothes and who knows what. How do you not notice something like that? He must have been a really careful man to not get caught doing that for so long. Then again, he did seem to be a careful man. (or, she knew about it)

You can see some of the measures he took regarding the "dungeon" in this police news conference.

    Austrian police

And also of interest, Natascha Kampusch, another Austrian woman who went through a similar ordeal, was interviewed. I don't like the question "Why do events like this seem to happen in Austria?" A few times doesn't quite mean it's an Austrian trend. But she does give an interesting answer.

    Natascha Kampusch

Regarding the family, they're apparently doing "relatively well". I hope they get through this as best as one can get through such a thing.

    Family

You can get to all of those from each other, but I linked them all individually anyway.

I woke up the other day and watched it on the news. It was just...bizarre, to me. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, it was just so sick.

What really made me feel sick is that it was his own daughter. He raped her, had her children, everything. I just can't understand how anyone could do something so twisted, especially to their own child.

And those poor kids, too. They'll have to live with that for the rest of their lives. How the ****'s a kid supposed to handle something like that? It remind me of this thing I saw on Dr.Phil once, about an old man who made his grand daughter do sexual stuff to him, purely because she had no idea what it was and what harm it was doing. There's just far too many ****ed up shit heads out there.

Although, I do agree that it was odd that the mans' wife never knew about it. You'd think she would hear the process of the births going on...hm..

Oh my god. That is disgusting. What kind of person can do that to anyone? This man locked up his own daughter in a basement along with the kids she had-from him no less? That's just horrible. It didn't say anything in the article about the man's reasons, so I'm just going to assume he's a sick bastard.

When I read the part about the mother not knowing about what was going on though, I was shocked. There's a basement in your house, and you don't know what's going on in it? Is she deaf and blind? This isn't nice to say, but honestly, that woman is an idiot.

Then there's the children that were actually locked up in the basement. They can't speak normally, can't stand up straight, and can't handle sunlight and space. I'll bet sound screws them up too, seeing as the basement was soundproof. I hope they can get used to the normal world and can get better. It's so sad that three kids really had to stay in one dark room all their lives with nothing to teach them about the real world. Now, they'll probably have to be cared for like children and taught all the little things that kids learn before growing up. With no experiences, those kids are going to need a lot of help to live normally, which is really, really sad.

I hope that father gets to spend the rest of his life in jail (at the very least).

Well, not necessarily. The place was apparently soundproof. So really, the only time anything would have been heard, I suppose, is when he opened the door. I imagine he was careful and only went in there when nobody else was in the house. Also, the door itself was hidden behind some shelves. So he was pretty careful about it. Since they had a refrigerator, freezer, and other appliances down there (I think even for washing clothes), which, according to the police report, would allow them to live down there for weeks at a time, he didn't really need to go down there all too often.

So, yes, I imagine it is quite possible she didn't know about it at all. Just seems odd, not getting caught over a span of 24 years.

Ive read in todays papers that he also abused the older girl who was in the basement aswell with her mother, and that he also used an underground dungon in a brothel where he use to tie up prostitutes to a cross and used to punch them whilst he had his way with them.
he started goin to brothels bout a year or so before he took his daughter into that hell hole.
my mum also told he that he had planned to do what he done to his daughter cos he was diggin out the basement a year before he done it.
But on a slightly happier note the papers also say that the two younger children from the basement are doig well, and medics are sayin they have been "reborn" they got colour back in their faces.

There are some crimes that we haven't come up with appropriate punishments for yet. I had hoped we would never have to, but this is truly something nightmarish.

It's such a depraved, illegal, bizarre, unfortunate, evil ect act...that I'm not sure the Austrian legal officials know where to start. I know that I would feel so disgusted to be in the presence of the man who perpetrated this crime that I would find it hard to bring him to trial. Really, he ruined more than a single life, though I don't recall seeing where he murdered anyone.

Either way. He ruined several lives, his life should now be forfeit.

    -Sin

Fear not, this is not...the end of this world.
