Thread: ALIENS!! Real or Not??

  1. #31
Sorry for bringing up such an old thread but I feel there's still room for it to grow providing intelligent people add to it with new ideas. That, and I've been MIA off and on for 2 years so I'd rather not try and jump into the new threads. BRING BACK FLAME FORUM!

Do I believe in some form of life outside our atmosphere? Yes, like many others have stated I believe it would be quite ignorant to assume we're alone. I believe we're just one form of life and there are countless planets which support life at different stages of evolution from single cell to millions of years more advanced than our own.

One of the biggest things we need to think about when talking about life on other planets is point of view. Like carl sagan said, we're stuck on this one little planet so our POV is rather skewed and biased. In order to understand life on other planets we need to forget EVERYTHING we currently know except for the basics such as elements (not how we class them but the actual visible structures), physics and math. Those are the only things that are absolute throughout the universe. To say life rely's on the existence of water is quite ignorant, it's this way on earth but other lifeforms could have evolved on a planet or yes even point in outer space that rely on the existence of other elements as their basis.

Another thing which we're biased on is our perception of life, and what constitutes life. Personally I don't believe life can be defined finitely. I believe it could be thought of as anything which is capable of adapting in order to advance it's evolutionary progress. I honestly believe extremely advanced forms of life have changed from an organic matter into something closer to pure energy. This would be much less dependent and more efficient for traveling throughout the universe because without the existence of wormholes the only chance we have to get between points is going to be traveling close to the speed of light and that is no easy task. Thinking of life in this form may seem foolish but think how far we've evolved technologically in our existence. We evolve at an extremely rapid rate, not much had changed technologically 10,000 years ago up to a few centuries ago, then in a few short hundred years (less than a blink of our universes age) we've conquered spaceflight, computers, and nuclear energy. Imagine whats capable over possibly hundreds of millions of years.

What really interests me though is life which as at a similar pace to our own. There has to be other forms of life out there right now pondering the same questions that we are right now facing the same dilemma's we are. I truly believe the only thing that's going to right our wrongs is having a higher civilization intervene.

I believe Aliens exist. I my opinion, Alien's are more believable than that there is a God. I'm sorry to those who took offence to that, but at the end of the day, its my opinion, in the same way you have yours. I'm not comparing Aliens to God - that we must worship them and all that stuff. I'm saying Aliens are more believable.

The Universe is a large place, and there are loads of other galaxies similar to ours. Whats to say there isn't life over there? I'll probably never find out in my time, but I'm sure there are.

There is also a lot of evidence FOR Aliens. I know most of it is BSed, but there are some REAL pics and experiences out here! Its just that most people see Aliens as a joke, so they make crop circles and stuff.

Heres something else: Area 51. What other purpose is there for Area 51 existing if Aliens don't exist? Nothing. Anyone could argue and say that it IS high a security MILITARY compound, so it must have reason to exist. Blah blah blah. There are hundreeds of Military bases in the world, but why does this one have to be so security tight? I heard you get shot at for just looking at the place. If you put a finger through the fence, you get shot because you've invaided US property, blah blah... Its total BS!

If there are Aliens in the world, Area 51 would know, and they should tell us! The world has a right to know whats out there!

I agree. The universe is a collasol place and is expanding at a good rate. The chance of there not being aliens is incredibly tiny, problay less then 1:10000000000000000000000000000000000000000 as the universe is so big. Some things im not sure wether i agree with is that all aliens are amazing technicaly advanced, maybe there are very frew who have even learnt space travel and those that do arent masters of it. In our universe alone there must be over 10,000 planets at least probaly millions(i dont know as im not an expert on space) and the chances of there not ebing a planet cable of sustaining life is ridiculos. Who is to say they have to be carbon lifeforms? And if they arent carbon lifeforms maybe they dont need the same things to survive as we do. Maybe they live in colder or warmer enviroments and have always lived that way. Or maybe they dont need the same thickness atmosphere then us as they arent affected by the UV raidiation that suns give off. There are so many possiblities of how they could be differnt to us. Or maybe they are simmilar to us. Who knows?

Very true. The laws of averages say that there MUST be something out there.

However, i think that most people are thinking in terms of what us humans are like, or other animals on this planet - "life" in the universe could be vastly different. There could be creatures that survive in vastly contrasting environments to what we do - millions of degrees celcius or similar. Than and just small lifeforms - bactaria or some sort.

I like to think that there are intelligent life forms in the universe - similar to us. Perhaps one day we'll make contact with them and humankind will accellerate vastly with new technologies and similar.

Also, if you are interested in this kind of thing, realy Reg Presley's book, "Wild Things". It's very interesting and has a ton of supposed sightings of aliens and government coverups and such. Very reccommended.

Good point Mr.Spike, interaction with other civilizations could add greatly to our technical know how. To see someone else's solution to a problem like energy consumption, war, disease could completely reshape our planet for the good.

What do you guys think about hostile lifeforms? Signs was an excellent movie as it approached the thought of an invasion very strategically. Personally I don't believe if hostile life wanted to take our planet that we would even know or could do anything about it. They'd be much better off placing some sort of constructed virus into our ecosystem which would be much safer. Our reliance on natural resources is far too great, and one day they will run out. We can talk about conservation but there will be a point someday where we'll simply be too populated to support everyones needs with what we have, and we'll have to either stop reproducing or look elsewhere. Ones own needs would certainly take priority over those of another's and if intelligent life exist elsewhere I'm sure this has happened somewhere distant before.

I believe that, somewhere in the universe, there are probably thousands or even millions of planets with life on them. I don't have any real proof, but I do have arguments as to why this is.

For one thing, seeing just how massive the universe is, why would we be the only life forms to spring up. Why would Earth be the only planet with life?

Another thing, aliens would probably have a much different body from us, so a planet without water or more nitrogen instead of more oxygen could have life on it. It's just a matter of how life develops and such. ..did that make any sense?

Those are my main two reasons, anyway.

As for the whole Area 51 thing, there probably have been one or two encounters of aliens, and Area 51 probably studied and covered up their find, but overall, I really doubt that Area 51 has much activity going on.

As for people who claim to have encountered aliens, most of them are just blowing it out of their ass. There are a few that more than likely have encountered aliens, but because of all the fakes, no one will believe the true ones.

i think aliens are real. 'cause people can't be the only living beings in space, 1st - theres no one in our galaxy except us - people, and when you look at the space.. well, it's too big and doesen't have any borders actually. so, my opinion - aliens do exist. =)

Ya just what Meeno said there might be a possibility that we aren't the only ones in space. No has really explored space good enough to say there arent Aliens, so I think Aliens are real.

I think aliens are real. I don't think they technically have to be anything beyond micro-organisms, but to assume that Earth is the only planet in the whole universe that can harbour life, and also to assume that the only life that can exist have to be supported in the same ways that we are is pretty arrogant.

    Extra-terrestrials, therefore, probably do exist...

They probably are real, as anyone with a brain and willingness to bring out the armchair mathmatician shit about "Oh well, probabilities!" will tell you.

Whole other thing when it comes to whether or not they have found us or will find us, or if we will find them or if we already have. The same vast number that you hold onto to validate your belief that aliens exist tells us that we're probably not going to meet up with them.

And if we do, do you really think we would communicate well? Humans don't communicate well with other humans that come from far away.

And if by some chance they do find us, why wouldn't they just destroy us? They've mastered interstellar travel. They are beyond us. It's like an anthill and workers building a 10 lane highway. Do the ant's have the ability to understand the idea of the 10 lane highway? Can they do anything to stop it? And will the workers think twice before destroying the ants?

    Spoiler:
    No.

We can't be the only sentient beings. I think Aliens do exist because the universe could technically go on forever. I suppose to them we would be aliens. What a strange thought, to be an alien.

Once we learn the logistics of space travel and are able to travel quickly enough it will all become clear. I don't think that will happen in my lifetime though.

I do believe that aliens exist. Has anybody heard the transpermia theory? Scientific discovery has shown multiple similarities between Earth's deep-sea creatures and fossils/imprints of animals on meteors/asteroids. It is believed that many of our fauna have originated from extra-terrestrial lifeforms, or "aliens". Besides, wouldn't it be a *teeny* bit selfish (not to mention stupid) of us to claim that no other beings exist outside of our world? Think about it - we exist, don't we? What is there to say that there are no other lifeforms on another planet, living their lives while believing that they are the only existing lifeforms. Space was, is, and always will be eternal and infinite. There are many galaxies besides our own that have not even been discovered, let alone explored. Therefore, it is most likely that there are also other beings yet to be discovered. The future holds many possibilities, and hopefully interstellar contact will be one of them.

Discovered fossils or other evidence of life on asteroids or meteors? No, no and no. I don't know what news you've been following but nothing like this has been discovered. There have been circumstances where rocks projected of the surface of mars made their way to earth and had microscopic tunnels inside the rocks. It's a theory that these tunnels were made by bacteria similar to that found on earth....but there's also evidence to show that these tunnels can be created by simple chemical reactions between the rock and an environment it's put into. Please don't speak in absolutes because nothing involving theory is for certain.

You people are silly with your desires for interstellar contact. It's an interesting thought, but a physical impossibility. Unless physicists somehow one day figure out how to turn a space ship, and all its components, into a photon, I wouldn't count on ever contacting anything near another star.

  17. #47
We're not discussing contacting other lifeforms, we're talking about their existence so before you belittle people please read the discussion. As far as actually making contact goes, yes with our current technology there is little to no way that WE can make it happen. With millions of years of technological progression who's to say what will be possible.

  18. #48
I'm well aware of what the topic of this thread is. I'm merely pointing out the pointlessness of the side discussions of interstellar contact. If you would like me to comment on the original post, then yes, I believe that life exists on other planets. I've read this entire thread, and most people seem to just assume that "life" means "life as we know it here on earth." Otherwise known as carbon-based life-forms.

It's very possible that life by other means exists on other planets, but not very likely that we'll find life as we know it here on earth. Knowing the substantial amount of extrasolar planets that we know, very few are even terrestrial planets. Granted, we know that there is much more out there than what we are able to detect, but the laws of statistics show us that what we've seen can be roughly duplicated for the expansive stretch of the universe.

  19. #49
Well said. I spoke about that in an earlier post but no one seemed to pick up on it or carry it any further. We evolved as we are because of the elements found in abundance in our atmosphere. I think that looking for life on a planet with a similar atmosphere such as our own is a great start, but we shouldn't neglect looking at planets with differ from our own. Judging by what was found on titan I think it's safe to say that life finds a way to evolve in many different environments.

Of course aliens exist. I had breakfast with one the other day. It likes cheese omelets with a hint of salsa.

On a serious note, I believe they do exist, but are extremely good at hiding. Why would they come out in the open to show themselves to us when we can barely handle the appearances of our own people?

  21. #51
I do believe that there are other life forms out in the universe it's to big to say we're the only intelligent life out there. I mean look at what we've been through in the last million years in our evolution and our technology. Who's to say that there isn't another one or dozens different races out there. I don't think in my lifetime there will be any contact with our technology where it is now but who knows.

I believe there is a high possibility that there is Extra Terrestrial life out in the universe giving the immensity of the universe and how very little of it we have been able to view from a telescope and or explore ourselves and scientists believe that at the end of a black hole is a white hole which may be an opening to other universes or maybe even parallel universes but until i see true evidence with my own eyes i am still skeptic.

I suppose there could be "Aliens" somewhere out there, but I think that if there we then the aliens are most likely not trying to find us. I belive that if we do discover other life then it wont be as stupid as we hope it will be. I mean if you think about it the only reason we are looking for Aliens is so we can kill them. Humans in general are very violent creatures and if we see the slightest threat in Aliens we will kill them.

I do think there may be another Intelligent life out there but I cant say and niether can anyone else here.

The white hole bit is just a theory with no real evidence. While a black hole is an object that is so dense that not even light can escape it, a white hole is "the opposite." Scientists are not exactly sure why, but "white holes" seem to be objects that constantly spew out matter at an incredible rate.

While there's no certainty as to exactly what they are, scientists postulate that some of the matter that gets "sucked" into black holes will be ejected through to some other point in space and time. There are certainly no theories on white holes opening up to parallel universes, as that's not exactly a scientific idea. More of a science fantasy, which isn't really very scientific.

The problem I've got with the idea that extraterrestrial beings can travel through worm holes (connected black holes) is that it's just a physical impossibility. First off, they're impossible to actually see, so it'd be pretty darn difficult to find them. We can detect them, but can't see them. Second, by the time any matter comes into "contact" with a black hole, it just gets crushed down and pulled apart so instantaneously that it pretty much ceases to exist.

I'm not exactly thinking outside the box, but I just don't think we'll ever come into contact with any sentient beings from another solar system, another galaxy, or another parallel universe. It's just too physically impossible.

I know what a black hole is and though it may not be possible to see the actual hole itself it is very possible to see the Accretion disk that form from matter spiraling at huge velocity towards the black hole. Some galaxies can even be powered at the center by a black hole.

And yes i know all the talk about a white hole is theory it is also theory that matter passing through the wormhole in between a white and black hole may actually travel back in time emerging at an earlier time at which it entered.

I think aliens exist, there has been alot of visual evidence to prove this aswell. But There are way too many solar systems, stars, black holes, & also Galaxies so i very much doubt anyone on earth will make contact with a Alien.

Also about 30 Years ago or so, The USA Sent a Coded Message into Space to try and find live-forms. The problem with that is, the coded message is estimated to take 40,000 Years to get there.

Well, no, it isn't possible to see the accretion disks. Again, they are detectable but no, not "seeable." And it's not some galaxies, it's believed that all galaxies are spiraling around a black hole.

And yes i know all the talk about a white hole is theory it is also theory that matter passing through the wormhole in between a white and black hole may actually travel back in time emerging at an earlier time at which it entered.

So your saying that technically we are one big accretion disk if all galaxies are powered by black holes. Therefore it is visible is it not.
What about a Quasar. Doesn't a Quasar give off extreme light and are also believed to be powered by black holes.

Lol we seem to have gone off track. So we are talking theoretically so therefore if all this is theoretical than could it also be theoretical that there is other life out there.

ok well first what is the deffinition of an alien? if youre going with the actual meaning of it then aliens do exist. if your in a diffrent country other than the one you live in, youre considered an alien. and if you are in the country ilegally.......spelt it wrong......... then your an illegal alien. as far as outer space aliens.... i just can't believe that we are alone. and there is the sightings, sure some look fake and some really are, but who knows there could be aliens from outer space living among us as i speak

I personally do not believe that aliens are real. Why? Well, if aliens were in fact real, wouldn't we have realized that hundreds, if not thousands of years ago? Besides, every UFO report, every alien sighting in history has turned out to be nothing but a complete hoax! We shouldn't believe something that has been proven wrong and wrong again, time after time! But that is just what I think. Like DarkSquall said, the universe is huge, so maybe there is something out there. We'll never know though because even if the aliens can travel at the speed of light, which, frankly, I don't they can either, it would still takes millions of years for them to arrive. Maybe they have and the dinosaurs met them! Let's ask them and find out... To me, aliens aren't real, period!
