    Worldly

Do you care what's going on in the world around you? Do you think it has any effect on you what's going on in other countries? Do you feel like it might someday and that's why you pay attention? Do you feel like nothing going on in other countries has ever affected you, but you knew about certain events?

I stream Bloodborne, FFXIV, and occasionally other games.

    Re: Worldly

I'm wrapped up in my own little world. I'm one of those ignorant people who only reads things that seem important or are interesting to me. I know a lot around me is important to the rest of the world and that I should keep up with it, but I'm a lazy bum.

I tried to make an effort to read something from the NY Times every day and browse through Time every week for about three months last year, but it took too much time. I gave up on caring about the world and decided to be self-centered instead. Turns out that's much easier.

I tend to ignore most news these days as the majority is either a joke or a total downer.
I prefer to cast my gaze on the part of the world most immediate to me as I can actually have an effect on it - the best I can do for international problems is donate a little cash, but even that's a drop in the ocean.

Now suppose an external party from far enough away they weren't previously an influence on my area came by and decided to shake up my immediate world, I'd definitely be quick to do my part to end their crap. (And I wouldn't be the only one locally with that sentiment neither).

I have been ignoring what has been going on around the world lately. I have to much on my plate right now, and can't spend my day worrying about other people shit, and problems.

I try to keep up with world events. I don't immerse myself in them though, because I can only take so much of how utter assholes we are to each other.

Some things will never happen here. A Tsunami for example will never hit middle Ontario. But I think its important to be aware of the stuff going on in the world. Stuff that has gone on in other countries has affected me. I feel bad for people who live in crap conditions when I complain about my 2 level condo with grounds keepers. I hate that there are women oppressed out there when I have the freedom to do/say what I want here.

At times I think it serves as a good reminder that while things suck here, it could always be worse.

I had no idea there were other places besides the greatest nation in the universe; the United States. Perhaps there shouldn't be.

Mass Effect 2 was a great game. I need to download the new DLC that allows me to find out who is the Shadow Broker. Thanks for reminding me to do that by the way!

Jin, I personally want to thank you for doing what you did here. Thank you. From a Taoistic perspective, It was appreciated.

Having said that, I keep track of current events and even keep score. I wouldn't say that I deeply care, more that I have a passing interest. No one likes to be blind-sided because they suddenly realize they weren't paying attention while driving. I just have a weather eye open on world events and draw a few feeble conclusions based on what I see.

    Re: Worldly

I think I'm in the same boat as Silver. Sure, I read international news as well as local, but I doubt I'll have much of an effect in lets say... the middle east. I can't contribute unless I have a safe full of bonds, and it's not even my war. I didn't start it, and I'm not going to finish it - heck, I'm not even going to watch it. So far, every news story based on the place has been the same; death, destruction, military personnel with behavioural issues, new weapons, not enough kevlar clothing, not enough supplies, bodies coming home to finance/e's and their child, etc.

It sounds like I'm turning my back on people that probably need someone most, but what am I supposed to do? Read the stories and grieve that I'm powerless? It's depressing.

I prefer brighter international news stories, but my interests include many various topics from where I am. Politics, crime, positivity, etc... no sports or celebrity bullshit.

    Re: Worldly

I think I have to much going on in my own life at the moment. But even if I didn't I still wouldn't, because the world news is so damn depressing or wrapped up in 'celebrities', football or who's being voted out of the latest crap reality show.

Thing is, I have no interest in politics, 'showbiz', most sports or anything like that.

Not really keeping track of what's going on with major events in the US or the world. Even if it can affect me, I just keep my head in the sand and pretend it's not there. I blame TFF for this. GC and ID debates are always so much alike that I just assume whatever new thing being talked about is going to be the same as well.

I'm an ultra conservative, but my preferred method of obtaining the news is through NPR (National Public Radio). They happen to be the biggest liberal bunch of douche bags ever on that radio station, but at least they talk about what's going on in the world. Regardless of their terrible ideas to fix the problems at least they're looking at problems I care about.
