CRYSTAL
Gender: Feminine
Usage: English
Pronounced: KRIS-tal
Means simply "crystal" from the English word for the clear, colourless glass, sometimes cut into the shape of a gemstone. The English word derives ultimately from Greek κρυσταλλος (krystallos) meaning "ice".
The first part was obvious, but I didn't know about the ice part until five seconds ago. Interesting, and oddly appropriate. I think names have more impact on us than we think.
MARIE
Gender: Feminine
Usage: French, Czech
Pronounced: ma-REE
French and Czech form of Maria (see MARY). A notable bearer of this name was Marie Antoinette, the queen of France who was executed by guillotine during the French Revolution. Another was Marie Curie, a physicist and chemist who studied radioactivity with her husband Pierre.
This does not bode well for me. >.>; Luckily it's my middle and not my first. Don't know if I would like being associated with an executed queen lol.
And, just for fun I clicked the see Mary part and this is part of the definition: "Usual English form of Maria, which was the Latin form of the New Testament Greek names Μαριαμ (Mariam) or Μαρια (Maria) (the spellings are interchangeable), which were from the Hebrew name מִרְיָם (Miryam). The meaning is not known for certain, but there are several theories including "sea of bitterness", "rebelliousness", and "wished for child". However it was most likely originally an Egyptian name, perhaps derived in part from mry "beloved" or mr "love"."
Well, that explains a lot.
