I'm pretty sure this is a troll. Judging by other posts you've made, and your picture choice.... pretty sure this is a troll.

After 8 years of word fumbling by Dubya, it's nice to have a President who has a grasp on the English language.

Some of his policies are meh, some are too little too late, some are too "radical" for Congress to pass. I don't see a problem with him, though, I'll vote for him again in 2012 unless the Republicans have a damn good candidate who can tout something other than "Drill baby drill" or "Look at me I'm a milf" or "OBAMA CARE RAAAAAAAAAWR"

    Republican talking points get old.

I don't agree with any of his policies at all. He has turned our country into a backward laughing stock of the world. I won't be voting for him, but the Republicans need to find a decent candidate to actually beat Obama.

The way I see it, he steeped in as a president at worst possible moment. With recession going on, all the mistakes his predecessor made, he had to pull off a bloody miracle to get USA on it's feet. Some of his ideas were far from bad, but you know how people are, they're not keen on change even though they may benefit from it. I'm not really into politics nor have I kept track of Obama, he could have...should have done a better job, one thing I do know, four years are simply not enough to bail country out of this situation.

That is one thing that I agree with. I hear it all the time on my choice of foreign news reports (CCTV, Al Jazeera, Deutsche Welles, etc.) Because Americans elect a new president every 4 or 8 years, it is never enough time to any actual change. But, if we, as a country, could elect someone every time we decided we didn't like him/her, we would never get anything done. We would spend every day of our lives in the stupidly-long lines at the polling stations.

I don't see how we could change anything unless we got someone in there with a plan saying "If I don't get such-and-such done by such-and-such date, I will step down as President!"

    See this report

I don't want to go too much into this thread. But even if certain people in the USA hate Obama and think he's damaged the country, the view is generally the opposite overseas.

edit: This is the bit I liked best:

Of the countries surveyed, 18 hold predominantly positive views of the US, seven hold negative views and two are divided. On averagei, 49 per cent of people have positive views of US influence in the world—up four points from 2010—and 31 per cent hold negative views. The poll, conducted by GlobeScan/PIPA, asked a total of 28,619 people to rate the influence in the world of 16 major nations, plus the European Union.

In 2007 a slight majority (54%) had a negative view of the United States and only close to three in ten (28%) had a positive view; America was among the countries with the lowest ratings. Views began to rise in 2008, with positive views rising to 32% on average, and now the USA is in a middle tier position, ranking substantially higher than China.

I'm not saying he didn't have anything to do with it. Obama's just made it worse, as for Aerif's post of course other countries like Obama, America is not what it used to be. We are no longer a world power because we've basically sold ourselves to China. This isn't all on Obama's shoulders, but he didn't do anything to change this.

Re: What do you think of this man?

I still consider Obama better than the alternative (McCain/Palin, anyone?). I may not disagree with a fair bit of his policies, mostly because the democrats lack spine, and the teatards are too busy trying to destroy the economy, set back women's rights, turn the US into a "christian nation", and make obama into a one-term president, but I also understand that the president is limited by congress as far as what can be enacted and done.

For the most part if you're going to get mad at anyone, you need to get mad at Congress. Remember, THEY are the ones that approve all spending and create budgets and they are also the ones who ultimately will decide what policies are voted on and enacted.

As far as 2012, my money is that Perry will get the nomination (God help us all if he wins), but Paul will pull enough of the fringe vote that Obama will get a second term with a slight democratic majority in the house and senate.

Where do you get all this from? It's obvious you don't read the news. Or at least the real news. If I had to guess, I'd say you get your ridiculous opinions from listening to uninformed parents bitch at Fox news, or some other kids at school who also don't know what the hell they're talking about. Every post you've made in this thread just makes you look like an idiot. I just hope I've provoked you enough to post again so I can get a good laugh at your response.

Re: What do you think of this man?

I like that he does not think that he is Chief of the World Police. I'd bet a lot of money that that is essentially why world opinions of the United States have increased since 2008. Even if he hasn't actually ended any wars, and failed to resolve Guantanamo (but both of those things are hard), I think he's doing well considering. He doesn't pretend to speak in ridiculous dichotomies ('for us or against us' defined me as a terrorist).

But if if he contested an election here, I wouldn't ever vote for him. America completely lacks any kind of true political left. Don't listen to FOX yelling about socialism. I wouldn't even call him a social liberal. Then you've got to reach social democracy before you can even start whispering about socialism.

And he's screwed over by the Senate such that the last two years have achieved nothing but 'compromises' which are clearly the antitheses of what Obama wanted.

Re: What do you think of this man?

I think it's just a patriotic pride thing. America doesn't like change, and I think Obama has been a change in more ways than one. I do think it's unfortunate that the timing of him coming into presidency was the same time as the country was going down. A country as large as America can't get back up on its own feet in four years without making changes - and if you were down in the first place, maybe you were doing it wrong to begin with?

I don't really know. Stubbornness isn't going to get you anywhere I don't think, when someone is trying to get you somewhere. What's the worst that could happen, really? Another president will just come along, change things, and hope for the best.

Imo, I think America was more of a joke with Bush behind the wheel. He was like an actor who could never get his lines right and made a fool of himself where he could.

Re: What do you think of this man?

I am trying to figure out the whole economy going down when he came into office. It has been down and was on a steep decline while Clinton was in office and further more went down with the events that occured on september 11th.

Since Obama has taken the office of commander and chief the national deficit has almost reached its max while putting 10s of tousands of Americans out of work, example shutting downthe F22 program that not only was the future of our national defense but also guarenteed for of work for tons of peoplfor the next 20 some of years.

Big buisness, what's that? Cities and states are now forced to take huge cuts in profit instead of using the national expendatures to keep jobs here and americans employeed. Yes thar courtious of the Obam administration. Mention of congress? Yes congress and the senate had to pass such big peices of shit like obama care, forced health care that is horrible that no one really wants, but at the time the senate and congress were. Almost. Pure democratic. Now that's different with republicans holding the majority of the votes.

A president that refused to speak the words of our national anthem, fail to salute our national flag, spent more money for parties and vacations, taken more time off in 4 years then most do in 8. Just the guy I want in my corner.

I still want to know where congress and the senate came into the decision to fly his dog solo all over the world or to hire 4 times the amount of beauticions and stylist for the first lady then any other previous woman that has held that role, specially while drought and poverty runs rampant across the middle southern states.

Seriously, the problem isn't Obama as much as it is you misinformed ****s that thing you have a right to speak about it without backing shit up. So shut the **** up until you provide some facts.

And furthermore, I'm sorry if you had someone working on F22s that lost their job for some reason. The project was scrapped because the F35s are cheaper to produce. And do we really need more of them made? No. Getting pissed because they cut the F22 production is like getting pissed because someone invented the printing press and all the people who used to write shit out with a quill are now jobless. Well guess what? They got jobs maintaining the printing press machines!

I'm wagering that it's because the Congressional Budget Office is a part of the grand liberal conspiracy to destroy America from the inside out. You need to stop listening to them Che, and also while you're at it stop watching CNN, MSNBC, and NPR and instead focus on what the real americans at fox have to say about things. Nevermind that the Fair and Balanced(tm) network is the only network that has gone to court for the right to LIE to you about whatever they please.

After all, they are just telling the other side of the story.

/it's early and few things get me going like a good let's bash the libs thread.

Re: What do you think of this man?

Speaking of all these channels biased in different ways, can someone recommend to me a US news agency that has a very limited bias?

Obviously my country is (a lot) smaller than the United States, but our TV channels and newspapers (bar one) have no identifiable bias. Opinion pieces are clearly presented as such, and everyone understands the particular perspectives the regular columnists bring. I'm not just measuring some national peen here, I legitimately find it weird that your news agencies are so clearly one-sided.

It's such a shame, really. You'd end up watching the type of news that best reflects your own bias, or spending twice as long engaging media in order to come away with both sides, when if you really had effective journalism, you'd get it in one go. It is the news' job to be fair and balanced, and your job to go and interpret that as you see fit.

    I found this to illustrate:

The three networks have evaluated Mr. Obama very similarly – 57% positive comments on ABC, 58% positive on CBS, and 61% positive on NBC. But he fared far better in New York Times stories, where nearly three out of four evaluative comments (73%) by sources and reporters were favorable. And he fared far worse on Fox News, where only one out of eight such comments (13%) were favorable. Examples:

Positive Example: “I was blown away by President Obama’s grasp of the subject. How he connected the dots. How he answered the questions without any script.” -- George Stephanopoulos, ABC, March 5

Positive Example: “President Obama has done more in one week to reduce oil dependence and global warming than George Bush did in eight years.” -- Environmentalist, New York Times, Jan. 26

Negative Example: “The [employment] numbers the Obama administration is throwing around are absolutely inaccurate… a gross exaggeration.” -- Economist, Fox, Feb. 20

While Mr. Obama’s personal qualities and leadership abilities have drawn mostly praise from the mainstream media, his policies have not fared so well. On the broadcast networks fewer than two out of five evaluative soundbites (39%) praised his policies and proposals. ABC’s policy coverage was relatively balanced (48% positive), while source and reporter comments ran over two to one negative at both CBS (32% positive) and NBC (31% positive).

TV news coverage of the president’s economic policies, which focused mainly on the economic stimulus and the various proposed and enacted industry bailouts, garnered support from only 37% of evaluative soundbites. He fared better on domestic issues other than the economy, where praise for his health care proposals and new stem cell research policy brought balanced coverage overall (50% positive). But only one out of four comments (24%) praised his foreign policy decisions, including the war on terror.

Negative Example: “The Obama administration is paying too much money to the wrong people.” – Economist, CBS, March 20

The New York Times policy coverage, while less positive than its personal coverage of Mr. Obama, was about evenly divided between praise and criticism (48% positive). Although similar to the broadcast networks in its treatment of economic policy (40% positive), the Times portrayed other domestic policy areas relatively favorably (60% positive), and its 39% positive coverage of foreign policy domains was still more favorable than the networks’ 24% positive coverage.

Positive Example: Mr. Obama’s actions “reaffirmed American values and are a ray of light after eight long, dark years.” – ACLU executive, New York Times, Jan. 22

By contrast, Fox News coverage was even more negative toward Mr. Obama’s policies than the Times was positive. Only one out of twelve evaluative soundbites (8%) praised any of the president’s policies, including six percent positive judgments on the economic matters, seven percent on other domestic issues, and 17% on foreign affairs.

[Alpha: I wanted to highlight that one, because that slant is a freaking cliff. Fair and Balanced (TM), right?]

Negative Example: “It’s easy to spend someone else’s money…. It’s not only irresponsible, it’s unethical.” President, Peterson Foundation, Fox, February 20

    Across all outlets, the ten most frequently debated issues were: 1. Economic stimulus -- 287 stories; 2. Industry bailouts – 114 stories; 3. Budget/deficit – 74 stories; 4. Terrorism -- 64 stories; 5. Healthcare – 61 stories; 6. Taxes – 45 stories; 7. Economic conditions – 38 stories; 8. Afghanistan – 31 stories; 9. Defense – 16 stories; 10. Iraq – 12 stories.

[Another Alpha: the environment is not debated?]

Source: CMPA: MEDIA BOOST OBAMA, BASH HIS POLICIES; STUDY FINDS PRESIDENT FARES BEST IN NEW YORK TIMES, WORST ON FOX NEWS; HE ATTRACTS MORE EARLY COVERAGE THAN G.W. BUSH AND BILL CLINTON COMBINED

Just wanted you to see what the real world was like. How was it?

Alpha, no channel is ever truly unbiased. You have to watch it from all perspectivse in order to get a grasp on reality. Obviously Che doesn't do this though.

Now that I am in the real world I can clearly see that you will never provide any facts to anything. You're hear to voice your opinion, which is you're right and I'm wrong no matter the topic. You won't provide any substance to any discussion in this thread ever, and instead want to call names like you're in second grade.

I mentioned this in my VM, but for anyone else who might want a news agency that is at least semi balanced - I tend to find CNN International and Al-Jazeera English to be fairly unbiased. I also enjoy HuffPo, as they are fairly reasonable, and not nearly as horribly biased as sites like "TheBlaze", which is basically FreeRepublic in pseudo news form.

I'd include NPR here, but we all know that's an Obama Stronghold of Liberal Elitism(tm), much like the entire news media besides Fox.

Frankly, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that che has a far better grasp on reality than a decent handful of people in the thread. At least he can back up his positions with evidence rather than just spouting feelings and refusing any concession.

I believe Ivalice is south of Hawaii.

See I can play the sarcasm game to. Just because you took a chart probably made by Obama doesn't make you right. I think the looking at the situation we Americans are in now is my proof.

We are out of jobs, we have Obamacare, we have a president who spends more time beating around the bush than answering real questions about real problems.

We are out of jobs, we have Obamacare, we have a president who spends more time beating around the bush than answering real questions about real problems.

Congressional Budget Office does NOT even remotely = Obama. They aren't even the same branch of government.

There's a good reason that our deficit has skyrocketed since Obama was elected: We actually started adding the funds for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the budget instead of using the bush tactic of shady bookkeeping to keep it off. There was also the bailout that was, by the way, voted on at the end of Bushes term. The Stimulus has already been shown by the CBO to have been a great help in keeping things from already getting worse.

Government doesn't create jobs, unless they are government jobs, but somehow i suppose we're supposed to massively cut spending to kill the deficit, but when those government employees get laid off, they're just as unemployed as the next guy who PRIVATE enterprises laid off or won't hire. You can't force a private business who doesn't want to spend money to invest said money into hiring. Frankly to encourage job growth we need to up the tax rates on capital gains as well as other taxes on the top wealthy. This encourages investment rather than simply hoarding money as the rich are currently doing with near record profits with no new hiring.

Also, again, Obama does not write the budget, Congress does, and it is a power granted solely to the legislative branch. How do you propose to encourage job growth, besides browbeating a politician? Do you have ANY concrete plans and thoughts inside that head of yours that you can back up with Facts? Or are you going to continue to espouse how bad things are without anything else of note?

And as far as Obamacare: I'm employed in a job that leaves me with just enough money to keep myself afloat, as I live mostly paycheck to paycheck. Thanks to Obamacare when I was sick as hell two weeks ago to the point that I couldn't swallow because my throat was swollen, I was able to actually afford to see a doctor. And i know this was at minimum an indirect result of Obamacare because my copays and premiums were twice as high last year for the exact same coverage.

Then again, I wasn't happy with the HCR because I didn't think it went far enough. I still hope we can get a single payer system in the future.

Again, I want facts. I want to know what YOU think should be done about the economy, about Obamacare, and about spending.
