We all know that Board Games mean Bored Games

So which ones did you play as a small child? Do you remember? And for a bonus feel free to throw in any card games you played as well.

I know that I terrified my parents with threats until they sat down and played at least four games of Clue with me. I always hated when I found out that may character was the Murderer.

    I hated Monopoly. ^^

    Clue, Scrabble and Trivia Pursuit.

As for card games, I am a human prodigy at Progressive Rummy or Liverpool. Deep Blue couldn't beat me at it, especially seeing it was programmed for Chess.

I used to play Monopoly with my family, but then my eldest brother and I grew out of it and became quite the killjoys for the rest of the family.

Snakes and ladders was anothr one. And scrabble. And chess. (I was a genius at chess But now for some reason I'm not too good).

I still play scrable with my dad sometimes, or at least I did not too long ago.

I loved playing cards with my friends. Snap, Pairs, Switch, Fish, Beaver, 21 Pontune, Trumps, and the like. I could go on forever...heh.

Well, its been a while since I've sat down to a board game with anyone. I can remember playing Chess with my brother when I was about 8-9. We developed a craze for it - played it all the time!

At primary school, I liked to play Guess Who? and Connect 4... OH! And that game where you have to guide this little silver ball through all those obstacles - I don't remember what it was called its been so long!

I like playing card games, though I don't know that many of the good ones. I can only really play Blackjack or 21 as some call it. And Snap,lol...

I also like playing Roulette - though its been a while since I've actually played that on a table... I've been playing it on San Andreas and Yakuza lol...

    Thats about it...

Always played a game called Stratego (i think that was it). It was like a massive game of chess and took ages to play a game haha. I can't really describe it too well, so here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratego =). I loved that game so much ^^.

Monopoly and Cluedo (which is think is what Sinister called Clue) were fun aswell. I still play the Game of Life though haha, last time i played it was with a friend and his girlfriend over some wine haha... such an awesome game, no-one thinks they'll be competitive over it but in the end everyone is XD. Scrabble was a frequently played game when we visited relatives up in Newcastle, fun times.

I played chess a lot aswell, that's a board game right XD. I love chess, don't get to play it nearly as much as i'd like though.

Haha, that's true. Can't say I've ever thought of Chess as a board game, personally. For me it's under the exalted title of obsession. But I mean more like Parker Brothers. But if Chess is to be included, then it is my favorite board game without any contest.

When I was a kid I used to play snakes and ladders a lot and woe behold anyone if they beat me. Thank god i grew out of the sore loser phase.

I also remember playing Monopoly and Scrabble alot. Several Finnish games also, which I think are available in English, such as African Star and Pyramids and Labarinth. Strangly I dont remember playing Cluedo at all.

I never played that much cards as a kid. Nowadays though I play poker alot...

I've always been more interested in games that are a long, maybe that is why I enjoy playing RPGs. But Risk remains one of my favorite games to play. Though I'm surprised anyone else played Stratego, I thought I was the only one. I loved that it was so much about a careful setup and using your pieces wisely and keeping a good memory. Its been ages since I've played that game.

Other games that are not strictly board games are Twixt and Othello that I also enjoy playing. Though sadly Twixt is a discontinued game, so I don't think that many people actually ever played.

If the game require thought and planning rather than the acts of randomized luck I enjoy it a lot more. Which is why I love playing Chess and I have an interest in trying out Go sometime if it was not for the prohibitive cost of a good Go board. Though it would also be difficult to find someone to play Go with since outside of Japan I don't think it is nearly as a popular, namely the US.

It is the same with me. I would much rather play a game that requires skill and thought, than one that is just based on luck.

When I was younger I used to play board games all the time. My grandparents collected board games, so I would play with them a lot. I used to play Risk, Monopoly, Stratego, Chess, Yahtzee, and many others. I can't remember half of their names. Recently I haven't been playing that many board games. I think it's because I've been playing too many video games. Also it isn't easy finding enough people to play some of these games.

As for card games, I really liked to play Cribbage, Sheapshead, and Pitch. I still play cards from time to time with some of my friends, but I don't play as much as I used to when I was younger.

I've wanted to try Go too, but I don't know anyone else who would know how to play. From what I read, it looks pretty fun. I'm kind of hesitant, but I might try it one day.

I was a big fan of Monopoly as a kid, it was a lot of fun. I don't like it as much as I used to but I still own a few versions of the game. I also had a board game from a television show over here called 'Hey Hey it's Saturday' which was canceled quite a few years ago but I loved it as a child, it was loads of fun and that show was a definite favorite when growing up. Guess Who was a good one as well, we still play it here and there when we are bored haha.

Mum and I still sometimes play board games when we're bored. >< We have a lot of new ones now so it's good to play different stuff. Trivial Pursuit is a favorite of mine, we have the Lord of the Rings edition. FUN! We also have a Harry Potter trivia game (can't remember the name) but it has a DVD and everything with it. I love it!

Board games that I played when I was a child were the games like Sorry, Monopoly, Trouble, checkers, Yahtzee, Scrabble, Life and chess. There's many others, but I can't remember them at the moment. Sad to say I don't play any game board games anymore though.

I absolutely LOVE card games, and I will be hitting up the casinos in my town once I turn 21, the legal age to gamble for my state. Before I went off to kindergarten, I pretty much learned how to come out ahead in Blackjack from my grandpa, lol! I also loved to play Sorry, Clue, Stratego, Chess, and a bunch of other games as well. To this day I am still up for a good game of risk or monopoly if others are as well.

I liked Scrabble. From a very early age I was extremely good with words. Having said that, I believe part of the winning is luck. Sometimes you can only use one or two words with the letters you're given. Because they're random, it's not always easy to make big words.

I also love Cluedo. I don't know why, I just liked playing it with my sister, even though she didn't play it with me very often.

I like Monopoly, too. I'm usually very good with money when I actually have it.

    I really loved PayDay, too.

I'm also a fan of Checkers and Go Fish (the card game.) I don't care if it's a kids' game!!

Scrabble was and is my favourite.

I've always been a words person, really. So I often win that one. Not many people can beat me =P.

I quite disliked Monopoly and Cluedo. They both bored me, to be honest.

Other favourites would be Checkers and Four Across.

As a kid? Pfft, we totally had a board game night a couple weeks ago.

So, in terms of the "board games" you were implicating at the start of the thread, I've always loved games like Mousetrap, Parcheesi, Monopoly. And yes! James mentioned Hungry Hungry Hippos, that was fun too.

Uno and Yahtzee don't have boards, but those were staples as well as other card games.

Apples to Apples. I've Never. Those are fun party (re: drinking) games.

I've always been more into the strategy types, though.

Chess, Go, Stratego, Checkers, Chinese Checkers, Scrabble, and to some extent, Battleship.

Trivial Pursuit is somewhat between strategy and board game.

But RISK is where it's at.

    Board games!

Of actual board games, I like Monopoly, Stratego, Chess, Chinese Chess, and Life. Chess and Chinese Chess I learned from my grandfather as a young child, so those games are the ones I really like. The other three I got into when I went to daycare and preschool. I was and still am horrible at Stratego. Monopoly is fun for parties. Chess and Chinese Chess are good for anytime I'm bored (since I have both boards and pieces). Life is just interesting.

I loved playing board games when I was younger. I would actually follow my cousins home just to play Monopoly with them since no one else would play with me. To this day, I still haven't fully completed a game.

Card games are fun too. Uno, B.S., and Spoons were fun. Do Poker and 21 count too?

I loved board games and card games when I was younger. I still do.

I haven't played a board game in forever. Growing up, I played a lot of them during our "family time" if that's how you want to put it as.

My family and I would play Snakes & Ladders, Checkers, Chinese Checkers, Trouble, Don't Wake Up Daddy, Monopoly, Yahtzee, Uno, and Candyland!!!! I'm surprised no one has mentioned that. That game was so awesome. Plus, when I was like 5 or 6, I had a little thing for Queen Frostine. I thought she was cute.

Haha. But that game was fun though. My favorite of all board games.

The ultimate card game has to be spoons- it brings out everyone into their primitive states! Where you can only have 4 cards in your hand and the deck gets delt out, you have to keep passing cards around tring to get a full hand (like all 4s or all queens). If someone gets a full hand, they have to take a spoon from the middle of the circle (theres one for each player -1). Once someone has taken a spoon, everyone has to sneakily pick up a spoon until one person is left without one and notices. Noticing the spoons go always gets people in a nail-digging frenzy!

Another card game I played quite a lot ws soltair- perfect from when you're bored and on your own. When I went to Cornwall with a group of friends last summer we played loads of different board games- Scrabble, Monopoly, Therapy, Pictionary and the one thats like pictionary but with words (i've just forgotten the name of it). Childhood favorites were Monopoly, Scrabble, Snakes and Ladders and a brilliant Where's Wally game I had which was a kind of board game trivia, and if you landed on a certain square you had to hide a doll of Wally for everyone to find within a time limit!

I've rarely been known to be impartial to a good game of poker.
And I'm lucky when it comes to monopoly.
Apart from those, Trouble, Twister, whatever's on offer really.
    I remember playing Cluedo when I was younger, but I don't actually remember too well what it involved. ^^;
Also, Atmosfear used to crack me up. With that lame Gate Keeper guy prattling on. It was hilarious with a few people.

And DDR if it counts. Dance mat.
    I like DDR...

Chess is not a board game at all, so I'm not going to count it. I've been playing it since I was five, and I love it. Chess is more than a board game, much more.

My favourite is Monopoly, because I always win at it. I am a dirty capitalist who knows a good investment, I cheat like a pro (as the game is based on business), and my loan rates are excellent.

Every time I play Scrabble I put down up to five words like cat, and, the, box, when, ruin the game for everyone by accident and then have a grand mal seizure because I ****ing hate it so much.

Cluedo is fun. So is Trivial Pursuit. Pictionary is ace.

My family were never really board games types apart from Monopoly and a lot of chess.

    I am addicted to Chess,

Chess is pure skill against skill. I mean your success does not depend on a "draw of the cards" or "roll of the dice". In Chess no one can give you the stupid "you were lucky" line, since luck has nothing to do with it. Whenever you win you'll be certain you deserve it and when you lose just the same. There aren't many other games out there as fair as this one.

    Best sentence in this thread.

What's this nonsense about only playing bored games as kids? Games like Snakes and Ladders I can understand as being kid only (although that game was hella fun), but strategy games and party games are always fun. And when you really think about it, take any turn based strategy video game and it's just a board game with animation.

Risk is always a crowed pleaser, but I find the game way too simplistic sometimes, with far too much reliance on the roll of the die. A favourite of mine would have to be Diplomacy, which uses absolutely no dice at all. There are a ton of other good war games I've played which I can't begin to remember the names of.

Some older favourites include Monopoly, Pay Day, The Farming Game, Clue and the Game of Life.

I'm not going to list D&D because generally speaking, the board is irrelevant.

    Until now!

Wow! A trip down memory lane, eh? Seems like twas almost 100 years ago that I was a child. Let's see if I can remember the games I used to play. Well there's the ever-popular monopoly, clue, chutes and ladders, candyland, sorry, aggravation, checkers, and chess. I'm sure there's more but that's all I can remember at this time.
The only card games I can remember playing as a child was poker: 5-card draw, 7-card stud, omaha hold'em, and texas hold'em. And some go-fish as well.

I actually played monopoly with some friends this past weekend, except it wasn't your normal monopoly, it was called "super-mokeropoly"!!! My friends have a whole set of rules and stuff and it was insane. The thing with the game is they put four monopoly boards together, each person had two game pieces and rolled four dice, crossing the board in a figure-eight like motion. After everyone goes in a turn, everyone plays a hand of texas hold em where you can bet anything from money to property you have. Also, if you get like a full set of cards for each color in monopoly, you can make housing/hotels. Well in this game, if you have all the properties from 2 or more boards, the amount you get for each house/hotel increases from double to quadruple depending on how many boards of the same color you control. It is pretty insane, and now that they introduced me to it, we are trying to find ways to implement risk into the game..

Meier: Hey Pete, I said I started to, it just didn't end the with the same number of women. Then again this one is kind of on the outs with me if she doesn't straighten up and fly right so that means I will be back in it for the thrill of the kill. Got some in the reserves. Even got a rePETEr (<---- like that ay? AYYYYY?) on the back burner.

Block: I do like the rePETEr except it kinda makes it sound like you're going to pork Pete. No homo.

There was a point in my childhood when I really loved playing chess. Well, probably because I'd always beat my dad at it. Even my grandpa, especially when he was the one who introduced me to it ^^

I really like playing chess, though I like playing Scrabble too.

I played Risk with my family. My older brothers used to need me just to make up numbers. Still, I loved it. Taking the world from your family is an awesome experience.

Monopoly is the work of the devil. It can turn the best of friends against each-other.

I used to play trivial pursuit when I was younger. I'm sure we had like a 1990 version though. So I had to answer questions about things that I was a baby during. Every christmas I'd watch my parents grin as the beat us all at it.

As for card games, I'm a poker girl myself. Love it. I still spend loads of time playing with friends now.
