In case you've never heard of the WBC, they're a crazed christian extremist group that pretty much pickets any terrible tragedy and claims it was gods judgment against sinners. The Westboro Baptist Church behave like a bunch of lowlife scum to get media attention. They're a group of attention whores, cultists, and drama queens. I have nothing wrong with what they do, as they have the freedom to say and believe whatever they want, even if it is ****ing stupid, but the fact that they feel the need to picket to praise God for the brutal murder of small children goes above and beyond their normal level of stupidity.
The supreme court, however, granted them the right to picket funerals, memorials, and whatnot, which I feel is extremely stupid on their part. It's one thing to see restricting them as an infringement of their constitutional rights, but it's another thing to be smart enough to realize that maybe some people don't deserve the freedom to speak freely, especially when that speech is simply to harass people who have different opinions then your own.
The fact of the matter is, as long as the WBC is getting attention from being stupid and annoying, they will continue to be stupid and annoying. People should simply ignore them completely. Maybe then, Fred Phelps and his cultists will get bored and actually do something productive and worthwhile with their lives.
The difference is, this could be more like mental harassment, these are horrified and scared children and now they have monsters screaming about how awful they are and how they deserve it.
Which is precisely why the supreme court should have ruled against the WBC to begin with. Their speech hurts people, and the people they're hurting this time are scared children and mourning parents. I believe in personal freedoms, but when you resort to blatant bullying and harassment, that's an abuse of personal freedom.
I'm all for making an exception to infringe upon the rights of cultists like the WBC. If they don't have the common decency to behave themselves, then they should have no podium to speak at all.
I agree mostly, I think that no matter how ignorant, people should be able to speak...but there's a difference...

The stories I am hearing of the people that were there to counter the protest is amazing and awesome. Seen first hand things like that here in Oklahoma where that accultist group is overly active. It always is good to hear of people standing up for the dearly departed.
One thing though, seeing I am slightly affiliated with the PGR here in Oklahoma, is that the article said that they are and anti-wbc orginization. While they do protest the protestors their main focus is respect for the deceased and helping by paying tribute to the dead and their familys (mainly fallen soldiers) and to help maintain the saftey and security of them during their time of need. Its an epic orginization. One that doesn't require someone to be a real rider to be a part of. Not going to link their page to avoid sissys sayin I am advertising (even though its a google search away).
Have seen the PGR run the WBC out of town many times and its a sight to see.
Over all acts of kindness like what all these people did to honor these victems is just awesome.

Loved the video! It wasn't what I was expecting, but Russell Brand definitely brought up some good points for sure. WBC really irritates me, I was raised Baptist and while I question some of the teachings etc it was never this full of hate.
I think they thrive off attention. Like spoiled little brats.
It's almost like they try to prove a point that they never address directly.
