Or how about we try to figure out the problem at hand so we can fix and improve on it? Some people aren't educated to the fact on why there is a lack of activity going on and are under mistaken pretenses.

also, I do agree with you to a certain extent, but only up to the point where the newcomers are getting blamed and deemed "not worthy" by the members, but otherwise if we just hide the problem, it's not going to solve anything.

Haha, but how many threads does it take to work something out? We've all seen these threads before, and nothing changes. Or it does, but it's never long before the "next big thing" happens here.
I'm all for making this place more active, but there's only so much we can do to bring it here (and then get it to stay here).
Re: Is User Activity Down?
The forum is every bit as active as the "active members" thing says... it's not broken at all!
It just shows people who log in and lurk, and bots, and guests, and everything else...
Just pointing out a random thing from the front of the thread with a load of sarcasm.
Re: Is User Activity Down?
I just hovered over the "Active Members" count, and I found out something interesting.
...It's over the last 4 months. >.>;
Isn't four months a bit... too large?
Re: Is User Activity Down?
It's a waste of time. The same thing happens every time. People will post their hypothesis on what is wrong and what we need to do about it... Then when it comes time to do those ideas, everyone turns the other way. The problem, which is the same problem that has existed here for years, is that people want change, they just don't want to do the work.
For example, many people suggested giving the forum a makeover to reenvigorate the whole site. I created the threads. I set up the demo forums and asked people to help out multiple times. You know who is doing this makeover? Right now, all there is is Andromeda and myself. That is it. Even the people who signed up bailed already, and we just started.
I'm sorry if I am overly negative over this but I am honestly tired of hearing the same old story. Until people stand up and do something, all this talk is for naught. I can preach all day, but I fear it falls on deaf ears.
Re: Is User Activity Down?
I was trying to help you with that for a little while, but then I thought, "What am I doing here?" and I stopped, heh. It just seemed like other people got to things quicker than I did, and I was just getting in the way. If you want me to come back and help some more, you can always ask me, y'know.
As for this forum's activity... yeah. What Merlin said probably has part to do with it. Also though, I think this forum lacks a bit in leadership. Someone to rally people to the cause, and also someone to do the work. No one really has time to devote themselves entirely to time it takes to be one, much less both. Also, there used to be certain personalities around here that attracted people, and those personalities are gone, and no one can really fill the holes they've left. No offense to anyone who's still around; there's just not a larger than life personality around anymore. There are a few that would strive for that, but they're either not quite there, or they aren't on often enough to make a huge dent. (And then there's me; devoid of personality!) Anyhoo...

Re: Is User Activity Down?
I don't see anything wrong with the activity, it's not so unactive that the forums are dead, theres always posts and threads to read, there prety much new threads to read everyday, unlike the other forum I have visted a couple of time, same treads going on and on and on sooo much that the subject of the thread has been lost and it's always the same 5/6 people posting.
Aslong as new threads are being made and people are still posting I would say this forum is pretty active :)

In related news, water is wet.
If you devised a method that actually got people to start posting, that would be truly something. Every idea so far has failed, but this time it could be different...
Re: Is User Activity Down?
I gots a plan, choose meeeeeeeeee.
This is the third or fourth thread since I've been here that was about user activity or the suppossed lack-there-of. My plan would be for people creating new threads to somehow fuse "user activity" with the topic they wanted to discuss. The "user activity" topic sprouts up periodically and people are drawn to - as people keep posting in it. So I deduced that the "user activity" thread has some sort of mystical power that is able to lure people to its clutches; we must capture and transfer that power to the other threads.
Re: Is User Activity Down?
Perhaps if people would stop worrying about how many people are online at any given period of time, and worry about themselves finding something interesting and relevant to respond to, there would be no need for idiotic "user activity" threads. TLO has what, 30 posts in total? I'm pretty sure there's well over 30 threads.
Re: Is User Activity Down?
I think there has been an issue recently.
I was gone myself for a month or so and during that time most of what I heard from the members here about TFF was how dead it was.
I think maybe we should encourage any 'noob groups' that arise as they are a forum's lifeblood. Every member here including the vets started as a new member and by doing things that make them uncomfortable with staying they're more likely to leave and won't become long lasting members. I'm not going to point any fingers at any specific people directly here but I have been talking with the odd member some of the vets would consider a 'noob', including a couple that have been here for quite some time and despite their time here they still don't feel very welcome.
Why not be cool to them, include them as much as possible and just be generally nicer to them? Yeah, IRL some might be the types to remain in tight knit cliques being less sociable to those outside the clique, but people can be so much better than that - so long as they choose to be.
This I think would greatly improve forum relations and might boost forum activity as a consequence.
Re: Is User Activity Down?
Silver: It would help if people didn't treat newer members as some pesky collective hive mind. And were courteous. But naw, it's the internet. Who needs that?
But hey, at least we get an activity spike when we need to defend our lack of activity!

Haha.... okay. TLO gave up on this forum like a couple weeks ago (what a chump) and while it's good to see a bunch of you older members, it'd be great if you talked about things besides why you don't post. :P
<3
I say let's make some good damn topics and be nice to one another (COUGH).
Eff this thread! I'm closin it!
