    Thumbs up Tips for SINGING?

i really enjoy singing and i often sing karaoke at home...but i find myself needing to work on one thing...HIGH PITCH... i can sing high but i sing it in a way thats too exaggerated... and way too loud. i listen to the singer and they did it really easily and really nicely. So is there any tips when it comes to the chorus and i need to sing high? or tips for overall singing?

I have a couple of very lucrative e-mails I should forward to you. One even comes from the Prince of Nigeria himself. All I have to do is give him my bank account and social security number and he'll pay me a bunch of money! Look out Easy Street, here I come!

As for singing high, do this. It doesn't hurt if you look like a viking either.
Let's go into the "archives" in "Washington D.C." and find out how people "masturbated" in the "roaring 20's."

If you sing high, you can hit the high notes! Just like if you study high, you can get the high score. I learned it from these guys.

But on the subject, all I can recomend is getting a singing tutour. They can help you overall with perfecting your voice, and can give you some constructive criticism where you can't hear your own personal flaws.

I'm not the best person to talk to when it comes to singing though... there is a perfectly good reason why I don't sing, unless in a house alone with very loud music!

    Re: Tips for SINGING?

I have the same thing. I can reach most high notes, but I feel more comfortable when singing them loud.

I think the main cause of this is that singing those high notes with your head voice just sounds too feminin if you're listening to yourself. In some music genres it doesn't work, in others it does. For some singers it works to sing with their head voice, other are really yelling (e.g. Led Zeppelin).

If you want to sing in a loud band, you shouldn't be too worried about this since there are a lot of other instruments that make your voice not seem as loud.

If you really want to sing higher without having to raise your voice (like some singers do in acoustic songs) I suggest you take some singing classes.

P.S. It's not a shame for a guy to not be able to reach high notes. It's only logical that there are many songs that girls are better at than guys, in karaoke.

    Re: Tips for SINGING?

hmm, i'd suggest working on the support for the note. You're going to want to try singing from your diaphragm and keeping your vocal chords controlled, try to make sure you don't slip into falsetto and constantly test your range. Always try to listen to the tone and sound of your singing as well it's important to be able to tell when you're in tune (you don't need to know the notes though) Higher notes always need more airflow so don't be too worried about whether your being too loud, as long as you keep practicing your range and tone should improve.

Also teacher... yeah... that also works if you've got the money for it

    The Gargoyle
    SPOILER!!:

    The gargoyle sits, solemnly, alone
    That silent man of stone
Here, for his deeds he must atone

    Beaten eyes stare blankly
    Withered arms curved and wrinkly
    Bat-like wings spread fully

For once he was a man deceitful
His soul decored in black so hateful
From his despair grew pain most vengeful

With his death he was deserted
    Left condemned and desecrated
    Bound to form most understated

And now he is but a statue made of stone
    Sitting all alone

    Star Gaze
    SPOILER!!:
High in the sky, blinking down on us
    We all watch the stars
    Believing, as we do
That friends and lovers long since moved away are staring upwards too
Remembering us as we remember them
Smiling in the light of an unatainable star
And even if the star was snuffed out at that very moment
    We would never know
    We just keep smiling
And believe the star is true

    Re: Tips for SINGING?

You are probably switching from your regular voice to what's called your 'head voice'. You might be more suited to a lower range in this case, or it's just practise.

Learn how to breathe properly for singing this is so important. Once you do you'll find you have a lot more control over your volume.

i think you are right... its like i sing from my regular voice and then when the high part comes i sing it really loud although its not off tune but you can tell i suffered from it and i dont think its good in the long run....

and yes you are correct about the breathing too....but i think i just need more practice cause i havent sang in like 3 years and then all of a sudden i'm back to it....but thanks for telling me that.

It's good to know which notes start to change from your regular to head voice. This way you know your best range. Not to say you can't ever hit those high notes, it'll just take more practise.

I'm the same for low notes because my range is very high.

Something I really like to do in the shower or just sitting in front of the computer is switching in-between breathing through my chest and diaphragm. Because being able to control not only breathing through one or the other, but being able to really feel the difference is very important.

Oh, and one last tip, stay away from milk products when practising.

Always being properly hydrated with good ole fashioned water is the best. Staying away from things that are high in sodium or salty is also recommended because it drys out your mouth.

The reason you don't drink milk is because it... it's kind of weird to explain, it has to do with the split in your mouth. (eww I know gross right?) If you are singing later in the day it's okay to have milk stuff earlier, just stay away from it an hour or so before you perform.
