Re: Something that really pisses me off.

Easter is the celebration of his resurrection NOT his death. Good Friday would be the day that he died (at least in Catholicism). That isn't a celebration actually most people tend to cry during services on that day. This is completely off topic btw, and if you're so sick of discussing religion I'd like to point out the fact that YOU are the one to have made the comment that sparked the so-called debate.

This is also the reason I don't discuss religion openly, people are ignorant. I don't judge you for not believing so how dare you judge me or others for doing so? I quite like you, Rowan and you seem to be rather intelligent - the ignorant comments aren't becoming of you.

PS- you may not have wanted to piss off Alpha, but you've succeeded in irritating the shit out of me because your statements aren't factual. Period.

Dont say its to celebrate his life, thats a copout. Almost every topic on these forums ends up back to religion, im so fu**ing sick of it.
    Really? Wow. Just ... really?

As has been pointed out, Christmas is -- quite obviously -- about the birth of Jesus. Good Friday is about his death, and Easter is about his resurrection. (You may have noticed that Jesus resurrected three days after he died, but there's not three days between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. In those days, they counted both the day He died and the day He rose as a day each, even though they weren't full, complete days. That's how it's considered three days.)

You claim that, "you cant debate religion with people who ignore facts and eveidence that are hypocrytical to the teachings in the bible [sic]." Yet, even without basic knowledge of Jesus or Christmas, you enter a thread about Christmas and attempt to insult Christians and their primary religious holiday. In so doing, you have done absolutely nothing but proven your own ignorance. Your disdain for Christianity has clouded your mind once again. Odd how you know so much about Christianity that isn't true.

Re: Something that really pisses me off.

Religion brings out the best and worst in people. A double edged sword. That's why I rarely talk about it and quietly agree to disagree with what many people say.

The existence (and non-existence) of religious belief is a very personal thing for everyone. You can present 'facts' to prove your point but in the end, it's the individual's personal belief that will matter and nothing could persuade him/her against it that it becomes an exhausting discussion that will end up wasting everyone's time.

In relation to the topic, if people would just understand that although Christmas comes from the Christian celebration of the birth of Jesus, a lot of people are doing the gift of giving in the spirit of this celebration that benefits many people and it doesn't mean you cannot celebrate it in your own way even if you're not a Christian.

Next thing you know, people would protest the celebration of Valentine's Day because it is based from a Saint even though we all know we celebrate love on that day - an emotion that everyone feels regardless of your religious beliefs.

I mean, what's in a name, really? To me, what matters is what the holidays bring to people. It brings a certain togetherness, joy and goodness within (some of) us and I'll take that over any other regular day of the year. (plus I get a days off from work , yay lol.)

For example, I love Halloween when people get to don costumes and candies/trick or treating plus the onslaught of Horror movies and ghost stories(which I love). Halloween is actually All Saints Day/All Souls Day for Catholics, but do I make a big deal about Halloween that it's not about the celebration of our dead loved ones and saints? Of course not.

Why is there a need to be sensitive about these stuff? I wouldn't go berserk if someone says Happy Hannukah, or Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas and I do hope the opposite way works just the same. Can't we all just get along? =p

Nobody is forced to celebrate these holidays but you are welcome to be part of it regardless of what you believe in.

I don't see anything wrong with that.

Oh, to answer the actual topic...

I don't really see any problem with saying 'Happy Holidays' or 'Season's Greetings'. If I were to be upset about it, it'd be more to do with it being a foreign import caused by television, since I've never in my life encountered a person who didn't say 'Merry Christmas' or 'Happy Christmas'.

This advert relates to it... Makes me laugh too.

Also if you happen to be reading this Quistis, All Saints Day is Nov 1st, All Hallows Eve is 31st, which is evil spirit time. Just so you know

If you don't follow a religion, why are your panties in a knot over people saying happy holidays?

Happy consumerist season veiled in the birth of Jesus, you heathen.

I personally don't care anymore. There are so many people of so many different faiths and beliefs that it's safer to just say Happy Holidays than to open up a can of worms and deal with some bullshit discussion like this. Now if it were Christmas Day, then I have no objections to it. Honestly, there's no reason to get so bent out of shape about it. Believe what YOU want to believe and don't let someone else bring you down during the holidays. Shit, it'd be different if people were saying something like "**** you Christian!", but it's just people going "oh, I don't know what your beliefs may be, but I hope you enjoy the season, because yknow, peace on earth and goodwill towards man."

We have more choice than you think. You know the shops will always sell more than turkey at Christmas - heck, store still sell chicken, lamb, and pork products all year around. So what if the store is dressed up like a Christmas tree - you don't have to buy into it.

If you're not interested in religion, then you make that choice. No one is forcing you to go to church, or participate in the Hindu festival of Diwali, or read the Q'ran, etc. It's the same all year around with other holidays and festivities.

Christmas is what you make it out to be. You could go about it as any normal day off work (if you're lucky), join in with gift giving, use it for worship, or hang out with friends and family for some stupid games and boring movies (and turkey, seeing as we know you love that ).

Tff is full of insecure sad hobos that go apeshit once somebody makes an audacious comment about religion. And instead of copping themselves on and ignoring it, they lower themselves to reciprocate by snootily correcting them on chronological errors, and writing in a tone that suggests they are better than the person who wrote the edgy post.

^ such as my post. Because I am better than you and really don't have the time to get caught up in ridiculous internet quarrels.
