The Price of Beauty (or rather...)

    ...the inconveniences of beautifying yourself.

So, I tried out some fake nails for the first time today and I don't see how women do it. They're such a pain in the ass. I can barely even type!
Sure, they look nice, but they're way more trouble (and inconvenient) than they're worth. I also almost scratched my eye out twice already.

So ladies, explain to me why you do this!?
Do you do it for yourself or for your boyfriends or what?

They'll keep me from biting my real nails now at least...

Re: The Price of Beauty (or rather...)

I tried fake nails once with my mum for fun, we hated it. I ended up snapping mine off which was really painful haha.

I wear a minimal amount of makeup most of the time so I can look a bit more polished and awake. Like, a bit of concealer under my eyes and eyeliner/mascara. But every now and then when I'm feeling creative I like to do really crazy eye looks, with hella bright eyeshadow or like, leopard print eyeliner or something haha.

I don't really do it for my boyfriend because he's fine with seeing me without makeup, mainly because I don't really wear a lot so I don't look too different (except for my eyeshadow). I think I do it just to make myself feel a little bit better, and I do the eyeshadow because I feel kind of proud of myself when I create something that looks really good.

I'm not allowed, or at least not supposed to, wear fake nails, because of the nature of my job, so I don't have any problems there.

I have terrible skin on my face, so I moisturise everyday, and have to bung on a fair amount of concealer and foundation to look presentable. Also, I run into a lot of hot guys in my line of work, one of which I work with, so looking good is pretty important to me. Most days I can pull it off.

Being newly single, I have been trying a bit harder than I was before.

I've tried fake nails a few times, and hated them. You can't do anything and the slightest movement I make they ping off or disappear!! I had to rip all of them off on the way to my birthday meal earlier this year because one went missing en route!
I do love makeup, and I'm quite creative with my eyes, but that's all. I don't do the whole lipstick/gloss crap. I hate it. I wear natural looking foundation as I have very pale skin because I don't want to look like an oompa loompa.
Last week I went for a skin consultation and instead of recommending products that blended with my skin tone, the lady made me orange. Why do women do this????!! I had a serious slag line, I wasn't impressed!

i tried false nails once, and il never bother again, they are far too irritating and I just found typing impossible as it hurt ):

I think my biggest annoyance is all the bits we have to shave, I tend to let it roam free unless there's a night out or summat - or the general public will see bits i haven't shaved. I suppose the only part i keep ontop of really is my undersarms

then i get a boyfriend and its like groom preen groom preen groom. its such hard work. I mean, its not like i dont like to look nice, for myself as well as my boyfriend. but **** me, sometimes i jsut want to be a lazy shit all week long D:

    Fake nails aren't that bad.
If they get in your way then ask for them shorter.

I usually by acrylics with a french tip. I only get fakes if I know I'm not doing anything that uses my hands a lot and I'm too lazy to do them. The majority of the time, I'll just get a plain manicure because with a combination of art classes and banging my hands on the piano, it's not a good idea and a waste of money.

What's annoying is maintaining them. I refuse to waste money to get them filled so once my nails grow out I just remove them until I want a new set.

I was thinking that since I'm artificially creating it, I'll create it with rocket fuel instead of blood, and thus it will be able to fly, using the dolphin's dorsal fins as wings. And from the air, it will look down upon us all and protect us against sharks, and search for bananas.

I just... don't. No make-up whatsoever. I just hate the way it feels on my skin. Plus, it's expensive, and I'm not high maintenance.

Sure, I like looking good, so I wash everyday, pluck my eyebrows when they go out of shape, trim my nails to a good length, eradicate spots and black heads, moisturise, I wear nice smelling deodorants and perfumes, shave my under-arms, keep downstairs trimmed and tidy, etc... but I never use anything really expensive.

I hate fake nails and ever nail polish too sometimes. The later makes my nails feel too heavy and thick, and the colour distracts me. I just keep my nails trimmed and shaped. If I can be bothered, I cut back my cuticles.

So far, I've had no complaints.

^This. I'm not a fan of make-up. I enjoy waking up 15 minutes before I leave to go somewhere and not caring how I look when I walk outside. Especially when I have an early morning class. I really could care less, but I still have standards.

When I do wear make-up, I'll probably just put on a bit of cover-up, blush and maybe eye shadow when I'm in the mood.

One thing I always keep on top of is shaving. I always shave my legs and my armpits in every shower. I like the feeling and it keeps my skin smooth.

Everything else really depends on my mood and what I'm doing on that specific day. I also won't go out of my way to impress a guy. If they don't like me for who I am, that's their problem.

Re: The Price of Beauty (or rather...)

You know, I've never tried fake nails. But I do sometimes put polish on my toes because I get sick of looking at how I don't keep up with them like I "should." I keep my fingernails (and toenails, for that matter) short for playing guitar aaanyway (not with my toes) so I don't think fake nails would be a wise investment.

However, I do enjoy certain cosmetics. I've been really getting into all natural products and it's kind of fun. I've switched foundation, lotion, sunscreen, got a coffee bean eye cream (it's so boss), soap (goat milk soap!), deodorant (I don't stink lol), and hair products (baking soda and a conditioner). With makeup, I really just focus on my eyes (eyeliner and a bit of eyeshadow contouring) and then even out my skin when it needs it (ingredients in my foundation: coconut oil, castor seed oil, beeswax, cocoa seed butter, jojoba seed oil, tocopherol, rosemary extract, and some minerals... it's actually good for my skin).

These are all things I do because I enjoy them. It's a bonus that they help me look good, but the things I use typically smell really good and feel really good to put on.

However, if I'm just gonna run to the store or go to the gym, then yeah, I probably won't bother to shower first (because I'll end up doing it later before going out for real real anyway).

Shaving is definitely a pain. Agreed.
    Curious?

Re: The Price of Beauty (or rather...)

I've never used fake nails and I don't plan to. I've never gotten on nails done, I would, but I can't really because of the work I do. I've had a pedicure, I'd get that again.

I'm retarded when it comes to makeup and all that. I have absolutely NO idea. I wear a powder foundation and eyeliner, but that's it. I hate the way liquid foundation feels on my skin.

I'm actually really insecure about my looks. It really gets me down I want to get a makeover, but I don't trust hairdressers, makeup artists and stylists. They just want your money, they don't ACTUALLY care about you.

My teeth are in bad shape, I plan to get them fixed this year or next year. I hope to feel better about myself when they're fixed.

I guess most women do these things, because they want to feel good about their appearance. Nobody wants to be ugly. Life's not about being beautiful on the outside, but it's seems like something that a lot of people care about. Including myself.

But I always wonder, is life ACTUALLY a bit easier, if you're attractive?

I found out not so long ago, that the deciding factor of me initially getting my job, over the other girl was because I was wearing a very nice shirt and I had cracking tits...so yeah, in that respect making the effort does sometimes get you further!

I make sure the area surrounding my junk is buzzed down. Not shaved, but buzzed. Other than that, I shave, shower and use deodorant.

Yeah, it's hard to look this damn good.
