    Re: phobias?

I have arachnophobia, which is hard because my bf hates them too, and I HAVE to be the one to kill the littler buggers :'(

My biggest phobia is that I'm deadly scared of sponges. The kind you use in the bath, shower or for cleaning dishes. I can't go near them, touch them ... I even shuddered typing the word, and I can't say the word out loud. When I was younger, I used to stay at my Granny's on a Saturday night, and she was a smoker who smoked while she had a bath, and had this huge ornamental ashtray thing on the edge. I used to chew on sponges (don't know why) and one Saturday when I went into the bath, I knocked over the ashtray without realising, and the months-old ash and fag ends scattered, so I cleaned them up ( without noticing the ash landed all over my chewing sponge). I cleaned up then got into the bath, did my usual washing, then run another bath for relaxing in. Picked up the sponge, chewed on it, only to have the water from inside (that was packed with watered-down ash) go into my mouth and swallowed. Ever since, I am scared of sponges

I have a phobia of fish, frogs and feminists.

Whenever I come into contact with any of those three things I instantly vomit with absolute repulsion.

I don't like feminists. Feminists already have equality, so they should shut the f**k up :')

And seanb, sir, you are evil!! I may reply to you with a feminist personal message like you did to me about sponges ... My stomach is actually lurching right now

    Re: phobias?

I have a fear of...being social. I'm not as bad as I used to be, but it is still a little hard for me to be social with people. When I'm out in a group of a bunch of people, I always feel like everyone's just staring at me and laughing to themselves and it just makes me really uncomfortable. I used to be really bad, though. My face would turn cherry red if an attractive girl so much as said 'hi' to me. I think this fear stems from one day in kindergarten when we were at recess and these kids told me to do something, which would prove to be embarrassing after I'd done it, and everybody was just laughing their asses off at me. I think even the teachers were cracking up. That day really screwed me. Because of it, I never had the courage and self-confidence of the average person and in turn, I never had even half the social life everybody else did in our teenage years. Hell, to this day, at 23 years old, I've only kissed two different women and have never been in an official relationship. Wow.

I also have a fear of heights. I think this fear stems from dreams I used to have as a little kid. I would used to dream I was falling from really high buildings and would always wake up just before I actually hit the ground and died. I think that's the reason I have a fear of heights. Makes enough sense, right?

I guess snakes are pretty gross. Parasites are pretty horrifying. Boyfriend has intense arachnophobia (seriously, even pictures), so I take care of those (he handles the snakes.... and in fact, already has by accident... we were camping, he almost stepped on a copperhead, etc etc).

But seriously, I'm a feminist, take care with what you say.

I am terrified of two things: Heights and snakes

Heights: Because..I really don't know..its just always been a natural fear to me. If I get like high enough in the air..and I look down to the ground below..I break out into sweats and I freak out. I also get to the point where I shake and get sick to my stomach.

Snakes: I think the reason why I am so scared by them is because when I was little,my uncles would kill rattlesnakes and chase me around with them, trying to get me to touch them. And I guess ever since then,I have been terrified by them. And when I see one I RUN lol

I think your pretty normal, except you actually have the balls to admit stuff like that whereas most guys don't, they just lie to themselves.

My grandmother has an extreme phobia of snakes. the word alone makes her break down. shes a real problem with it... When I was younger, toy snakes were a definite 'NO NO'..

I'm afraid of fire and water.

Fire because I saw a whole neighborhood wiped out by a wildfire.

Water not really sure actually, it has to do with my ears.

I'm also afraid of not being accepted. I'm the kind of person who feels they could make friends with anyone. Than if someone doesn't like me it bothers me alot.

    Re: phobias?

I'm not super scared of spiders, but I too have to be the spider killer in my relationship, as my boyfriends a little b*tch. Lol.

I have a slight issue with going places alone. I can go to work alone, but not to the shops. It only takes me an hour to get ready, but after that I'll pace around the house and check my bag a lot. I feel really anxious. I end up not going. I'll go somewhere if I HAVE to. But I usually just go places with my boyfriend. I only like going places with him or my sister.

I also get really anxious when I have to make a phone call. The reason is because my voice sounds like an 8 year olds voice. I'm not kidding. I remember I answered the phone from the cable tv guy once, I would've been 20 and the guy said, 'Hey little girl, is your mum or dad home?' LOL. I just went with it and said, 'No, my mum and dad aren't home'

I'm also quite anti-social. I feel out of place. I had friends in high school but we grew apart. And now I have no real friends. I find it easier to be social online, then in person. It can take a few months for me to feel comfortable around people I don't know. I'm very quiet and don't talk much. But once I feel comfortable, I have a lot to say I usually keep to myself because I feel better that way.

    Re: phobias?

My biggest fears are small, enclosed spaces, and vomiting.

I fear feeling trapped in small spaces. It could be a cold day, but my whole body will warm up like I'm roasting in an oven, and I panic. I have difficulty getting a tube, and really dislike packed buses (I will wait for a less crammed bus to turn up 75% of the time). Trains aren't so bad because I can see outside, and they're a little less crammed because of the seating.

As for vomiting... always feared it. I used to get the vomit bug a lot when I was a kid, and my brother puked all over me one evening, and I had to freeze to death on the sofa that night without a blanket. All someone has to do is make a gagging noise, or strongly imitate vomiting, and my gag reflex starts up, and my throat burns with bile. You could say I have a weak stomach. I try not to be sick when I need to be sick - TMI, I will try and keep it down.

Other fears include not being "good enough". My manager called me into the office the other week, and completely unrelated to the reason why I was in there (apparently I have an attitude problem), she asked how I felt about my figures. I cried because I thought she wasn't happy with my progress, and that I'd have to have a documented discussion, etc... but she was pleased with them, and gave me some pointers/advice on how to improve. I didn't have a reason to fear lol.

I fear relationships too. Not just me being with someone, just my relationships with people in general. Family, friendships, etc. too. Comes in as part of my fear of hurting people. I'd rather be hurt myself than hurt someone else.

This! This is a huge problem for me lately. The guy that likes me is sitting beside me (Hopefully not reading this) and I can't have a relationship with him. (Not yet anyway). My friendships don't usually last too long too. The ones from my childhood have all diminished and I do not care enough to connect with them again. Not even on facebook. I was a weird child...I have a fear that my past will come back to haunt me. Even though I'm a better person now because of it.

I am also afraid of commitment due to things that have happened in my past. I will not explain.

I used to be afraid of heights, but I recently got over that fear. It took a lot of rock climbing to be able to do it. I will never climb a real cliff though. That would scare me out of my skin. I also got over my fear of heights due to the need to be a pilot.

Needles. Or just small sharp things penetrating the skin. Splinters make me gag too. I've had to get my blood drawn twice a year since I was 7 and I'm still terrified of needles.

    We are much alike.

I also have a fear of the dentist. It's not the numbing needle in the gums. It's not the drilling. It's not even the f'd up feeling you have the few hours after some kind of work. It's just...I don't know...being there. I always fear what the dentist is going to say about my teeth and stuff. Oh, and holding my mouth wide open for so long, too. My jaws get so sore, I get to the point where I just can't hold my mouth open anymore.

    I fear:

    - Spiders
    - Actually, arachnids in general (Scorpions less so)
    - Dark forests
    - Alleys
    - I think I have a fear of "judgement" (being judged), which is largely why I stay quiet around people I don't know.
    - I fear being buried alive, and I fear being trapped in dark, small areas. (Like a coffin)

My fear of spiders is probably the worst, I don't think many people have screamed because an online photograph of a spider moved. I also got bit by a spider... when I don't think about it, I'm calm, but when my mind thinks "those teeth things were in my foot" I start getting jittery. My little sister kills spiders for me, in turn I get rid of snakes for her.

I've always been scared of forests, dark forests, because my mind immediately thinks "There's spiders, wolves, bears, and other nasties hiding in there... waiting...." And, I also have a strong fear of getting lost in a forest (I've seen Blair Witch Project too much...)

Anything else I fear is just the common sense stuff (ie: getting shot, mugged, etc...)

    Re: phobias?

I used to be absolutley terrified of balloons when I was younger, to the point where I couldnt be in the same room as one. That's gone now that im older but I find that I still struggle to tie a knot in one once i've blown it up but thats due to my own incompetence more then anything else. Balloons are wierd things anyway, how can kids get so much enjoyment out of them?

Despite overcoming this I have discovered a new-found fear of knees lately. I can't really explain what it is but they gross me out. Just the way they look and function is horrible to me. I cant even type this up without getting squeemish. God im weak

I just wanted to add that I used to be really scared of carwashes when I was a kid. You know, those carwashes where you drive in and the large brushes or whatever they are clean your car. I don't know. It was just so loud in there and the brushes, I always felt like they were gonna break the windows. I would always cower down into the floorboard of the seat.

    Re: phobias?

Why does everyone who is afraid of spiders want to kill them? Isn't that sort of why you are afraid of them? They're just spiders man. Get a glass and a piece of paper. Slide paper under spider, place glass upside down over spider. Flick out window.

    <3 Spiders.

I have nothing I'd consider a phobia. Like, nothing I'd get shaky writing or thinking about. I suppose if anything I have a mild fear of bees. As in I'll try harder than most to get away from them. But nothing that stops me walking across the lawn, and it improved, ironically, when I got stung by one for the first time when I was 17. It wasn't that bad, and a teacher at school demonstrated using a credit card to remove the (still pulsating) stinger and venom sack without its contents rupturing. So it was a fear of the unkown, perhaps. But I don't fear any other 'unknowns'.

I think I'd be capable of being afraid of snakes, but I've never seen one/they don't exist here, so who knows.

    claustrophobia. nothing particularily special there.

Im not so sure I could class the fan thing as a phobia anymore, or at the very least, not as bad as it was, seeing as i can actually bring myself to look at them, though i dont particularily like them, and i think i might actually die if i encountered one in real life

And Im talking those big massive ****ers that could shred you to a million peices, not room/ceiling fans.

Ive been know to scream if one has suddenlty popped up on the tv, made me feel sick, urgh, stupid stupid phobia

    Re: phobias?

Nowadays, only thing I really have any sort of fear of is bees. Don't know if you could call that a phobia though, since there's nothing irrational about it. I'm highly allergic to the little bastards, and anaphylactic shock is not a pleasant experience. I'm not so much affraid that it'd kill me, but I'd almost rather die than experience anaphylaxis again. That was easily the worst experience of my entire life. Just thinking about it actually makes me feel somewhat ill. I guess it's not even so much the bug itself I fear, as the inevvitable result of me being stung by one.

When I was a kid, I used to be affraid of spiders, don't know why, but that pretty much wore off, I actually find them interesting now and like to watche them when I see them.

I used to be affraid of heights, even though I'd never really been in a high place. Once I'd actually been dragged onto a roller coaster for the first time, I discovered that I was actually more of an insane thrillseeker than someone affraid of heights. Now I love heights.

Used to be affraid of needles too, that stopped when I stepped on a nail for the first time (actually I've done it three times now). After that, a needle didn't seem too bad.
For Our Lord Sheogorath, without Whom all Thought would be linear and all Feeling would be fleeting. Blessed are the Madmen, for they hold the keys to secret knowledge. Blessed are the Phobic, always wary of that which would do them harm. Blessed are the Obsessed, for their courses are clear. Blessed are the Addicts, may they quench the thirst that never ebbs. Blessed are the Murderous, for they have found beauty in the grotesque. Blessed are the Firelovers, for their hearts are always warm. Blessed are the Artists, for in their hands the impossible is made real. Blessed are the Musicians, for in their ears they hear the music of the soul. Blessed are the Sleepless, as they bask in wakeful dreaming. Blessed are the Paranoid, ever-watchful for our enemies. Blessed are the Visionaries, for their eyes see what might be. Blessed are the Painlovers, for in their suffering, we grow stronger. Blessed is the Madgod, who tricks us when we are foolish, punishes us when we are wrong, tortures us when we are unmindful, and loves us in our imperfection.
