    Online Shopping

Do any of you purchase online, if so what kind of experience you have with online shopping, good, bad? Do you resort to online shopping because it's more convenient or are prices the key factor?

I don't have much experience with online shopping, I bought few items, my N93 among others, so far it's all been legit. Still, I prefer going to real stores to purchase items I need. Few of my mates had terrible experience with online shopping, one of them bought HTC Legend which suddenly stooped working after couple of weeks, he couldn't do shit about it.

    Re: Online Shopping

Personally, I don't buy things online. Only thing I've ever bought online was Minecraft, and the odd things I've bought on PSN using both code vouchers and my credit card if that even counts.

In this house, if me or my brother want something bought offline, we give the money to my mum, and she'll order it for us or give us permission to order it ourselves using her account. It keeps things easier, minimises the amount of mail the four of us would generate with separate accounts, and actually makes us think about what we want to order and if we really want/need it that much. So it saves a little money too.

I don't think we've had any problems with ordering either. Some posters from QVC turned up bent, and I had some dried, white stuff on a PS2 memory card once (I'm convinced it was just milk or coffee), but that was my fault for buying used.

    Re: Online Shopping

I've made quite a few purchases through the web. From reading material, college text books, Final Fantasy cds, other cds, video games, & accessories. I've bought from amazon, ebay, Barnes & Noble, Wal-Mart, and some other places. I might have even purchased something from this website ages ago: like Squall's or Tidus' necklace.

Never had a bad experience. The worst was when I recently bought The Death March (book; Dragonlance) from Barnes & Noble. They mailed it via DHL and separately from the other two books in the order: The Way of Kings & Goblin Nation. The latter two books had a tracking number, The Death March had some numbers that was not a tracking number. Then it got a bit lost because for some reason DHL, a shipping company, gave both parcels to the USPS. Why? I don't know. Anyhuma, it arrived like 2 weeks after the other two books arrived.

Other than that the products I ordered have been in good condition or the condition the seller stated in the case of the used books and purchases from Ebay. They also get to me in good time so I don't have to wait a prolonged time for my package.

I do some shopping online and haven't had any big problems with it so far, so I'm happy. I have bought stuff with leftover microsoft points for the xbox360 (but I get the points cards so I dont have my cc info linked to my account so I dont get HACKED ZOMG LOLOLOL PSN) before, and never have had a problem with that. I've also bought some clothes online as well, mainly for cheap, and I've never had a problem with it either. You can normally find some pretty good deals online, which is the main thing I love about it. I found a laptop for around $900 that will have everything I need, whereas beforehand I looked at some stores and the next best thing would of ran me $1299. That's some serious savings!!

    Re: Online Shopping

ive done a fair bit today as it happens, couple of tshirts, pair of converse and my grocery shopping

99% of my online shopping experience has been fine - not had any major issues to date, the only ones have been with ebay and ive had a full refund for one and the other was just reshipped for free, so nothing major really

I just find its much more convenient and cheaper, I enjoy shopping but my laptop is just here. And I found the most amazing tshirt in town on Sat, but they didnt have it in my size, so just ended up scouring the net til i found it.

Only problem with online shopping is the excessive amount of money I seem to spend on shit I dont need

All the time. I've banned myself from doing it for a month.

Mostly clothes. I am a master at online clothes shopping. I have a couple favorites. I have this one site that sells designer shit for around 60-80% off, and the sales last for one or two days. Usually things sell out in the first few hours, so if there's a designer coming up that you want, you have to be waiting on the "add to cart" when the sale starts. Or it's GONE.

    .....It's kind of fun.

    Also modcloth is my shit.

I also get books, appliances, movies, tea... most of what I buy is online.

    It is addictive.

I bought my bathing suit online. And I usually buy my halloween costumes online. I try to limit the online purchases of clothes though because if it doesn't fit then I'll be too lazy to return it, and then too lazy to put it on ebay.

I buy the majority of my specimen plants, lab equipment, books and gadgets online. The reason is purely the problem of selection. How many local nurseries and stores would have a Cedrus atlantica glauca pendula, Acer palmatum 'Ariadne', Auxins, Gibberellic acid, a copy of De Medicina Praecepta OR a Umbrella with a broad-sword handle?

    Everything I got from Amazon.com.

Always reliable and everything comes at the time they say it will. Mostly buy old PS2 games that are hard to find and well, that's about it. Oh yeah, and I also buy flea prevention for my dog off 1800petmeds.com

I hope that your details are secure, Gemma. >_<

Well, yeah, I don't buy stuff online because I have no way to buy anything. I don't own a credit card or a Paypal so I mostly get my friend to do it for me. It's really quite annoying because I've seen some kickarse stuff on the internet that I've just wanted but I've never been able to buy. =/

Last thing that I got my friend to buy me was a triple pack of Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure Battle 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.

Same for me. I think that might be a good thing in my case though, because I love stuff, and the internet has a lot of stuff that I would like to get.

Going to actual stores and using cash to get stuff makes me more mindful of exactly how much I'm spending. It's so easy to just swipe a card, but for me, actually handing over money makes me think whether I really want the stuff I'm planning to purchase.

    Re: Online Shopping

I buy shit online all the time. Well, not as much as I used to, but I still do. I have a subscription to emusic, I download music off amazon if it's not on emusic/I can't wait a month for my subscription to refill, and I download off itunes if it's on neither emusic or amazon. I don't like CD's taking up space anymore. Too much clutter in my room as it is. (One day, my computer is just gonna die, and all that music...)

I still buy DVD's and Blurays, though. And I get games and books and stuff. Occasionally I've gotten clothes and other miscellaneous items. I still buy stuff at the store, but if I can't find it there at a reasonable price, I look online. It sucks to wait, though; sometimes things take weeks to get here, which is especially annoying if they said it'd get here in like 3 to 5 business days when I purchased it.

The worst experience I had, I bought a PS3 on eBay, and it didn't work. I sent it back, and they tried to tell me I had to go through these hurdles to do it, but I was like "I am not happy. I will give you a bad rating." And then they were like "Okay okay, whatever you want!" Even let me keep the extra controller they'd sent me after I sent the thing back-because they hadn't sent one with the system. Anyhoo...

Back it up man, I know how you feel...

I did go through a stage, when I found out the existence of the credit card, that made me realise how good buying online is lol... But since, in a controlled manner, I've found it to be a much cheaper and easier way generally. I even buy clothing online instead of visiting a shop.

I'm soooo tempted to online shop. I don't because one, I'm paranoid about buying anything online and two, the fear of not being home when something is delivered and one of my neighbors bamboozling me.

I enjoy looking though. It's fun even when I know I don't have money to buy.

I thought to place a discussion like this within ID. The dynamics between in-person trading and online shopping are interesting. With online shopping I find that using places such as Ebay is not as good as using other online resources such as Amazon, and I can also find a list of information and games as well as vinyl and sound equipment from various countries. If this was a poll, I'm giving two thumbs up.

I only tend to buy things online if I really want something, and/or I'm looking for the best price. Also, when I busted my leg up, I had no other choice but to do my grocey shopping online, as my other half was so terrified he'd buy the wrong thing, despite having a list.

I have only had one bad experience. When I was off sick, I had a spare few few pounds left over so I bought some luxury soaps from the Lush.com website only to find the website had been hacked, so I had to drag myself down to the bank, a couple of days after coming out of my cast, mind, to cancel my card and get a new one. This took TWO WEEKS!

I don't think I had my details used, but is best to be safe than sorry.

I typically only buy electronic stuff online, or games and whatnot. I have to buy clothes and stuff in stores, since with my strange proportions, it's a pain in the ass to find stuff that fits....especially jeans. (31 inch waists are not that popular around here, who knew?)

Buy stuff like games, movies that I can't find in the discount bin at wal-mart, computer parts and what not online is almost always cheaper for me. But then, online I can view full specs of any parts I want and can more easily compare with reviews. I take my tech stuff too seriously.

Besides, black friday I was able to get all of my shopping done by 12:10 AM thanks to Newegg, TigerDirect and Amazon

I buy tons of shit online. It's a lot easier for me because I HATE going to stores and sifting through aisles to find what I want... unless it's clothes... unless I know how the brand fits me already.

Long story short, I shop online unless it's more prudent for me to buy something in person. I have amazon prime, so anything I order usually arrives at my doorstep within 2 days. It's amazing for my impulse buys.

I do alot of my food shopping online, I can drive and do it myself, but having kids to look after, it's just so much easier to order it. Also I tend to spend less doing it online than going in the stores, otherwise I will go in and I will see things that I want, but don't really need, and thats where the money all adds up.

I also buy all my dvds from Play aswell, I don't know why I started doing it, it's only saving a few quid so nothing major and I order from a cataloge online too, just less hassle than filling out and sending order forms.

I would be lost without the ability to buy online, I've become so dependant on it.

I buy all of my eyeglasses from an online store called Zennioptical.com and the experience has been very fine. It makes my shopping a lot easier. I can just order eyeglasses in an instant and it would cost me less time. And the stylish high quality eyeglasses with cheap price make online shopping more attractive. It really can help me save a large sum of money.

I've bought a few figures(action figures/ statues) in my younger days just stuff I couldn't find anywhere else. When you come from a small town its really practical. I've bought a few games as well, typically used ones, and I seriously recommend online shopping over some off line options since sometimes online buyers offer better deals or return policies. I have to mention however it does kill the thrill, you know it might just be me but I use to love hunting around for an old game or book and looking from store to store for bargains or rare stuff, online just makes it so much easier everything is pretty much available.

I've never been hacked or had anything undelivered/ wrong things or misleading but my Dad has, just for one shirt it was too small( I should mention it was used and hobbit size). If you shop around and make smart decisions you'll avoid most fo the pitfalls. Just remember that if it sounds too good to be true it is. I've been crushed when I naively wanted to believe that I could get something for so cheap or that it was legit etc Just to stop and look around and find out its scam or that its a knock off. I've come so close to buying fake ps3 controllers it isn't even funny.

I'd say if you like buying stuff in stores go with Amazon, since its a legit store that house quite a few places were you can pick up used and new. Think of it as like one big mall , it pretty much has everything and used stuff. Also you avoid all the bidding which can be exhilarating/frustrating, and their free shipping if your over 25$ is gold .

eBay is awesome as well its basically one big garage sale but there's tons of new and good stuff, but bidding can kill your mood, especially if someone swoops at the last 10s and bids marginally higher then you.

However I guess I should warn you that if you do put your credit card info online with stores it doesn't mean its guaranteed safe, look at what happened at the PSN, but banks/credit unions are generally awesome and can cancel or help you out, as long as you do all the steps to inform them so don't be paranoid be aware.

    Happy shopping!

I'm more of a store shopper, but if I do buy online, it's usually a Tokidoki hat or shirt. Maybe the occasional video game if there's a sale
