    The official 2008 NFL thread.

Last year was a success, and in order to start fresh (or I am too lazy to find it), lets go again.

The big news is Brett Favre going to the Jets. The Jets become better as a result, but in the AFC, there are too many good teams for the Jets to squeak into the playoffs.

My team (the Dolphins) has been completely overhauled. If a 6-10 record is reached, I will be satisfied.

Yeah, I truly feel for the Dolphins, lol. They need a good push for them to get back on track. This year definitely looks promising, however, with all the good looking rookies. My bears picked up a nice RB, Matt Forte, and I hope to see him do some great things if he ever gets to play. I'm unsure if he'll be able to repeat what Adrian Peterson did in the vikings, but he's promising nonetheless.

Then I'm DEFINITELY looking forward to see what Hester has in show for us. That guy is seriously amazing.

Defensively, I'm unsure if the bears will be able to pull themselves together. I see a chance of becoming a force to be reckoned with, but it's hard to see their future. Though I did like the other rookies they picked up, which are:

    Chris Williams (OT)
    Earl Bennett (WR)
    Marcus Harrison (DE)
    Craig Steltz (safety)
    Zackary Bowman (CB)
    Kellen Davis (TE)
    Ervin Baldwin (DE)
Chester Adams (guard, lol at name)
    Kirk Barton (OT)
    Marcus Monk (WR)

Should add some interesting spice to the line-up.

P.S. - I hope they beat the living hell out of the colts in their first regular season game. God, I hate manning.

Chargers fan here. Hoping Phillip Rivers' surgically-repaired knee is able to hold up the entire season. LT still is the best back in the game too, and our wideouts will be productive I hope. Just a few weeks left until the season starts!!

Too bad for the Jets that now the Madden curse has it's chance to break Favre (being on a shitty team aught to accomplish that in short order, you'd assume). >_>

The Chargers will win their division this year with ease. I would like to see them turn it on in the playoffs, though.

Grizzly, are the Bears ever going to get a quarterback? The Dolphins are at least trying with Chad Pennington and Chad Henne. Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton likely aren't the answer.

Trust me, the Bears will suck unless they can get a better QB in the draft or via trade. Grossman is gross all right.

lol, my thoughts exactly. Honestly, I hate Grossman and while Orton has some talent, there's is just no way things are going to get any better. Farve should've brought his ass over to the bears because at least he could've made a GOOD team instead of joining the jets. The only way I see the bears going to any playoffs, divisions, or even the superbowl is if they learn to play like they did last year in various games. The games where they went into overdrive and won the game.

Like, I can't remember the exact game, but in the last 5 minutes of it, they actually went on a really impressive, desperate drive that ended with a touchdown as EVERYBODY on the offensive line literally PUSHED the running back INTO the endzone. It might've been against the broncos as they went into overtime during that game.

Still, besides that, the picks they got this year are good nonetheless. I think they're trying to enhance their overall defensive ability before going into the offensive, particularly in finding a QB. Though, who knows? Grossman and Orton might surprise us this year (I won't hold my breath).

EDIT: Yeah, it was against the broncos.

Actually, Translanka, the Jets have a pretty sick squad with or without the addition of Favre. We picked up a ton of new talent and some vets so that we have a combination of speed and an O-line that can actually defend the QB. We'll make some noise this year.

Week 1 will definitely be an interesting one, with the Jets playing Chad and the fish. You can expect him to come out with his guns blazing, but when those guns only top off at about 25 yards on a good day, I don't know. In all honesty though, I was and still am a big fan of Pennington. He plays with more heart than I've seen from most people in the NFL, wanting to lead a team that at times, sucked considerably; even coming back from a series of injuries and being doubted by pretty much national sports media. He may not have been the best QB, but he made up for his arm with his head and his heart.

I was mostly just kidding...but the curse never lies. Maybe he'll squeak past it since he's still wearing Packers on the cover...*shrugs*

Me, I'm a Seahawks fan myself. I'm a bit curious to see what happens this year. They've got a pretty good all-around team, but tend to fall short as of late. Two years ago, when they squeaked past the Cowboys in the first round of playoffs, it was AMAZING. They failed to follow through.

I think it's a good team that just needs more consistency. They've got a shot at making the playoffs this year, but I don't think they'll get past the second round. I REALLY hope they prove me wrong.

Well, me being from Wisconsin and a cheesehead, I've been a packer fan my whole life and I was sorta crushed when Favre got traded but I guess there is nothing anyone can do about it and I'm over it. I'm, probably going to be watching more of the jets games now that Favre is playing for them though. I want both teams to do well, but for God's sake don't let them meet in the super bowl. lol

Edit: Oh, and I think that after so long Aaron Rodgers deserves a chance to lead the packers.

I don't have any one team I like more than another really; but I guess the Colts, only because Payton is my favorite QB.

I don't follow football as much as I do... okay, so I don't actually follow ANY sport except hockey anymore, and that only rarely. All I know is that since the Pats beat the Rams the last time they went to the superbowl, my city has been QQing nonstop that we suck at football.

I don't really pay attention to football until it's playoffs time. =\

By god, did anyone catch that 49ners vs. Packers game? Jesus christ, the 49ners won by TWENTY EIGHT POINTS! The final score was 36-6 and even though this was a preseason game, THAT IS OWNAGE! Considering that the 9ners haven't really had a lot of attention when it comes to their overall ability, they pulled off some quite impressive shit.

Hell, I just watched the 9ners vs my bears tonight and BOOM, they won again. It still might be preseason, but if that can leak out onto the coming-up regular season, we could see some great games from them. Only thing they need to change is to place Shaun Hill as the backup and put Smith out of the way. He isn't bad, but I don't see him taking the 9ners to any superbowl.

Then there's my bears from tonights game and I gotta say, I was rather frustrated. Their left side defense was just TERRIBLE and they couldn't do jack shit to close up the holes they were creating for the 9ners offense. The bear's offense, on the other hand, did pretty good until Grossman got his sorry ass in the game and ****ed THREE DRIVES! I mean, at least Orton was rather productive and overall satisfactory, but Grossman needs to get cut or something. End score was 37-30, which could've been prevented if Wolf hadn't fumbled the damn ball after a kickoff return.
