Highly considering getting one of these nifty little tablet/laptop hybrids. I really wouldnt use it like a tablet, but im more interested in the form factor of the tablet. I would use it as my main work machine/download/browsing/light gaming. Its perfectly sized to just be able to leave lying around at home without looking like its making a mess or taking up a lot of room. The only qualm I have at the moment is that there is an apparant throttling issue with the i5 and i7 models. for those that are not aware, throttling is when the device lowers the power of the cpu and other hardware when fan cooling is failing to bring down the temperature when it reaches a certain threshold. This is designed to protect the hardware from being damaged at high temperatures, but at a temporary major loss to performance. This sounds good, but the threshold temperature is vastly lower than what it ought to be before a throttle kicks in. This is something that cannot be changed by user, as its ingrained into the firmware. This issue has halted me from purchasing one right now, because even with light gaming, throttling is still a distinct possibility.
I know the surface pro 4 will be coming out within the next 6 months, so perhaps I should wait for the new one which would most certainly have these kind of issues ironed out? The new one would also feature the next gen (current gen for PC users) processor, which is also a plus on both a performance and efficiency level. When stated like this, I guess the choice becomes kind of obvious.
Do any of you use a tablet or a surface pro? Would it help you in your schoolwork or your job? What would you use it for?
