So I have decided my child's name if i I have a daughter. It will be Ariadne. But I'm having trouble deciding a boy's name. And it's always good to have backups, in case you have more children than two, or they aren't boy+girl. Shaquiqui is a close second for girls. Why are boys names so hard?! halp

I'm still in love with the name May Lynn for a girl. If I have a child and she is a girl, she will have that name AND GOD HELP THE POOR SOUL WHO DARES TO TRY AND RUIN THAT NAME FOR ME IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM!

For a boy? I have no clue. He might just be called May Lynn too. It'd totally be "a boy named Sue" type of situation.

As for girl's names I am stuck. I really like the name Saraya-Jade, which is, as I just found out, the real name of this lady. I looked it up as it sounded so familiar.

I've recently began to like the name Ethan for a boy, and my favourite boy names have been Matthew and Joshua for years. I like the names Saoirse, Belle and Alaina for a girl. Saoirse is pronounced "Seer-shuh", and it's Irish so I figure if I name my daughter that she'll be getting a really unique name that's also linked back to my ancestry. I'm not really huge on Welsh names, particularly with boys but I think Irish names are often really nice.

I think when picking a name you have to sort of think about whether people will find it difficult to pronounce and if they do would it really annoy your child. My name is Halie (Hah-lee) which people seem to have a really hard time pronouncing and it can be frustrating, but it doesn't bother me too much. Saoirse is obviously more complicated than Halie, so I do wonder if it would be the right choice for my daughter's sake.

Ryu, I think my avatar-twin has a point. A kid given one of those names would almost undoubtedly be bullied in any English-speaking country. A general rule of thumb is making sure a name is justifiable - if you're Japanese feel free to call your child Hikari, but don't if you're just an American with a love of Japanese things. Kids can be and are cruel.

It seems a little ironic now, but I'd like to call my first born daughter 'Niamh Amelia [My Name]*". I can obviously justify the Niamh (Neve) since I'm half-Irish and have a sister named Siobhan and a grand-mother named Mary-Magdalene . Actually I ought to research that, there probably is already a Niamh in the family...

Since there's always the possibility that I may pursue a career abroad - I'd like to have a good celtic name for my first born son. 'Glendon' is the only one that springs to mind but it's otherwise occupied right now...

*I censor it, but if you're paying any attention at all it's not too hard to find out.

I'm not really good with names, not even when it comes to naming video game characters let alone kids. The best I could come up with are Henry, Alen and Xavier for a boy, if it's a girl then either Sonya or Anya, but seriously, I'll let my wife solve that matter.

Well now that I have sobered up I suppose it is time for a real post here.

I have given thought to several names for a boy. A few are special names of relatives close to me, but are not common names anymore so may result in some bullying.

Boy:

Homer- This was the name of my great grandfather. My dad wanted to name me this when I was born because he was real close to him when he was younger. My mom talked him out of it, because she felt it would lead to me getting taunted quite a bit. Can't say I don't agree I would of been f*cked with alot. I probably won't name my child this because of this reason, but it would be nice to without worrying about other bastard children bothering him.

Kale- This has always been my favorite name for a boy. Gave it to the child that I thought was mine, f*cked up there.

Alexander- This name has been given to many great men all throughout the ages. It has always been up there ion my list of favorite names.


I don't really want a girl, but I have given thought to some names just in case I do have one.

Camilla- This is my grandmother's name, and I happen to think it is a beautiful name, I have a girl it is for sure at the top of my list.

Quinn- My current girlfriend happens to love this name for a girl, can't say I don't agree it is a good name.

Can't say I've ever found a name that I thought I could commit to for naming my child with.... I had a hard enough time committing to bangs.

I was just thinking not too long ago that I enjoyed the name Eve. And I've always wanted to incorporate my step-mom's first or last name into my kids' names... middle name, perhaps. It's just she has no kids of her own, and she's been a big part of my life and is awesome, and will for sure be an awesome granny to my babies, so... yeah.

I also think I'm wary of getting too attached to a name in case my partner doesn't care for it. I'd rather be able to come up with a name together.

All that I suggest for you is that you don't name your child something that they will grow up to hate. I hate my name, and made that very clear to my parents. I have unofficially changed it, but am debating on changing it for good. Don't make your child have to go through something like that. It's emotionally scarring.

Che, I like the girl's name you have there. But if you're looking for a boy's name, you should go with something along the same lines, such as Aden, or Adrian.

See, I got it easy with male names. There's a line in my family for the males (I'm William Edward Rice, IV) so I just need to name the boy the fifth.
Personally, I like Allison, Claire, and Irene for girl's names.
For other male names, I have a fondness towards names like Andrew, Stephen, or maybe Logan.
I've always liked names like Aesculapius, Sirius, Regulus, and the like, but I know a kid named like that would be excommunicated/picked on.

I've not really decided, but I've thought about it. Most of the names are based on my favourite game or book characters though, heh.

For a boy, I really like the names Vincent, Alistair and Ethan.

For a girl, I really like Chloe, Aeris, and Sabriel. Also Kahlan (Kar-lan pronunciation, not Kay-lan, from The Sword of Truth book series), and Madison, after my best friend.

When/if I marry, I'm happy to take my partner's name as long as it's not something kids would laugh at (I had a teacher called Miss Seex once... she never lived it down at my school). Even if I don't marry, I'd like my kids to have their last name - it seems more formal, and I'd be glad to not inflict my surname on them - I don't like where either of my surnames have come from. Everyone I've ever been with has had an interesting last name though - my boyfriend has a surname you'd expect a Knight and his castle to have.

Well, I think the name entirely depends on what the kid's last name will be. I think I will pick a partner based on how un-ugly their last name is. But! Here's my list.
