iPhone 5c(heap)
That is my thought.
I have been an Iphone user for 4 years. It started with a 3gs, then I upgraded straight to a 4s and both were on contract for 2 years each. Next month will mark the end of my 2 year contract with the 4s, and after seeing the new range of iphones, my 4 year run with apple.
Read here for information about Apple's new Iphone 5s and 5c models.
The reason I wont be renewing my contract with apple? Well its basically been the same damn phone over 4 years. Im bored of it. I hate Itunes, yet I perservered because it seemed like it was worth having an Iphone. Little did I realise that I've been missing out on so many standard options when it comes to phone customization, that the Iphone lacks. Like having my own ringtone/message tone, easily dragging across mp3 files straight into the phone and addable card storage. Without sounding like a complete yuppy, I'd like to know which smartphone Is the best option in terms of overall quality. Contract is up next month and I need to renew with something. Ive been looking at the galaxy s4 and the sony xperia.
thoughts?

I've had 3 different version of iphones. Four phones total (one swimming pool regret). They were all excellent phones. Did their job well, etc.
That being said I recently jailbroke my iphone 4s, and it was amazing. It was my first time doing it, so I messed up a bunch of stuff in SSH (nothing terrible, I just wanted to redo it), and I had read of the consequences of restoring (the jailbreak no longer exists). I figured it was worth it one night and did it on a whim (the restore), only to find out that the new patch fixed it and no developers were going to continue with that patch of jailbreak, they were waiting on 1.7.xx or whatever. So now that I've seen the light and what a phone can do unrestricted as far as being an actual USB drive for music and much, much other things, (Picking google maps and chrome as defaults instead of safari, etc, and generally choosing how I want to live my damn life), I will not be getting a new iphone.
I have also been looking at the Galaxy S4. But now I guess I will read these articles on the new iphones to see what I'm "missing out on". =)
edit: lol. Clicked on the video. Thought that was Joe Biden.
Galaxy S4 all the way. I've never been terribly impressed by Apple products. I worked with ATT for a short time not too long ago, got to screw around with some newer phones. The new Blackberry OS is actually decent, and the windows phones aren't too bad either. really an iPhone is the only one I WOULDN'T consider getting.

After much dileberation, Ive decided that I will most likely go with the Sony Xperia Z or if I wait a little longer, the Z1. It looks tight.
Nothing compares to iTunes at least for me.
Blackberry's new BBOS 10 rather tickles my fancy. The hub feature is insanely nice (emails, text, facebook, twitter, any notification all in one place, you can also separate them individually or view them all at once). Problem is the apps are lacking, while you can side load Androids apps the experience is lessened (numerous bugs, not a fluid experience)
I recently had a HTC One and while Android does have a lot of customization, it gets on my nerves very easily. Any customization had to be downloaded by app, while that doesn't seem to be a problem those apps can add up to quite a bit of memory. Although that can be remedied with a SD card (which the HTC One lacked). A few hiccups here and there, can't tell you how many times Message Pop Up failed on me. Updates are also unavailable and you are to wait for carrier mandated updates, unless you root or buy the Google Edition. Most sync managers suck for phones (one of the reasons I like iTunes). Had to down a music app just to play lossless, crapware, just a bunch of little things kept adding up.
If you thought the iPhone didn't have a lot of customizability don't go to Windows Phone. Your left with a pretty bare OS. It works, it works well, but its extremely bare. Low on apps, though a third party app for every major app (Vine, Snapchat, Instagram). Awesome Twitter and Facebook syncing. Some good exclusive games (Fable Coin Golf, Halo Spartan Assault), but its also low.
Hardware quality hasn't ever been matched by anyone as far as I'm concerned. Also customer service is top notch through Apple.
I am a proud Sony Xperia user. Love this phone. And considerably (hundreds of dollars) cheaper than an iPhone which has considerably worse specs for things I care about (camera in particular). Also: Android, memory cards, not having to use iTunes (try MusicBee, especially if you have a tiny amount of programming ability as you can make it do cool things, like automatically look up guitar chords for your current song, etc. Sky's the limit).
I thought about it. And I'm sticking with my normal phone that can't do all that cool stuff. Am I a hipster?

Samsung is way better. I have Note 2 and I can game and do whatever I want. It's like having a mini PC.

I've never been interested in the iPhone. My first smart phone was a Windows Mobile phone waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when and my first Android was the Motorola Atrix (woo 1gbram and 2gb processor) and I only had one issue that was a manufacturer defect. I jumped at the chance to get the Atrix HD and I've loved it. Apple doesn't let you do much with any of their products and they over charge for limited capabilities and this new release is nothing different.
Is it bad that smart phones have never really interested me? I never sit does in a park, and think about checking my emails because I'm too busy having fun. If I ever do feel the need for Internet stuffs, it's because I notice a free wifi sign and get the iTouch out. ^^
I really like the Sony Xperia range though. If I had a choice, I'd go for the Z1. I'd stay away from Blackberry - all my friends had complaints with them. Samsungs are okay, if you like holding a tablet to your face when you make calls.
For now, I'm going to continue to rock the hipster/drug dealer look with my W810i and iTouch.
i'm more interested in this

This thread made me take a look at the Xperia Z1 and all I can say is I can't wait to buy this phone. The sleek look that I've come to expect from technology paired with a 2.2Ghz processor and 2GB of RAM? That's ridiculous, I don't even know what I would do with that phone, but I'm going to find some way to use every hz and every bit of RAM.
That fingerprint recognition thing is so cool. My contract will never expire so I won't be getting the 5S now, or maybe ever, but I can dream.

I don't really care for iphones. I'm a huge fan of my droid razr, but I'm thinking about getting that new phone that you can literally hose off. I have a few months to figure it out though, since my contract isn't up til february and my gorilla glass has some cracks in it. Its a pain because sometimes the touchscreen goes full retard and starts texting people without me doing anything.

Xperia Z1? I got it last week. Had no idea what I was missing with android. Apple is pathetic in comparison. My reasons? Well im glad I asked.
Apple's IOS locks your file management and restricts it to their own. This has no advantages, only disadvantages.
Android gives you full control over the file system, and therefor, full control over the phone.
Apple is restricted to playing certain file types, such as mp3 and mp4 video.
Android mx player allows your to play anything. I have 1080p MKV files that are only 200mb and it plays them flawlessly, with the option for turning off/on subtitles.
Apple is restricted to transferring media via an interface called Itunes. Custom ringtones can be made, but it is tricky.
Android allows you to copy data (music, videos, ringtones, software for emulators etc) from any computer, at anytime with no restriction.
Apple Iphones makes you pay at least $100 for each extra 16gb of storage which is an absolute ripoff and especially since it includes no external storage capabilities.
My z1 and im sure the majority of Android supported phones allow for external Micro SD storage. Just got a 64gb SD card for $29.99.
Apple iphones customization goes as far as changing a background and a lock screen.
Android software allows multitudes of customized widgets for easy access to programs and certain features.
Iphone has no torrent program as the IOS locks the file system.
Android can utilize bittorrent and utorrent. GGWP.
I used iphone for 4 years..
now I have seen the ****ing light.
That's why you always go with Android. I have a note 2 and it's like a mini pc and a portable gaming platform all in one. In a next little while I'll be able to hook up my PS3 controller and enjoy playing all the emulator games on it. Android phones rock.
The BF & I bought HTC Ones a few months ago when he had to switch to AT&T. If you're into having music on your phone like that, the Beats Audio front facing speakers are stellar. The camera isn't too shabby either. And they're pretty. XD
I've thought about jailbreaking mine, but I haven't done that to a phone in ages and I'm afraid of jacking it up. My bf did his though, so... Maybe.
I'm more annoyed that I can't download the Ifruit app for my android. I do nothing at work all day and just want to train my damn dog in GTA V. Chop craps all over the place and apparently humped a cat. This is clearly unacceptable haha
