All being an asshole aside, if anything, it should be regulated. I mean if that's what someone wants to do, why not let them do it? Plus, why not have them tested for AIDS and diseases so both them and their Johns know. Plus, they could also be regulated for things like drugs, diseases and well, hotness.

I'd even volunteer to rate them.

I kind of doubt that lower class "hookers" and courtesans didn't exist side by side (well, not literally, but temporally). I really can't imagine a world in which hookers are all upper class purchases. Chances are that lower class hookers back then were just rarely recorded. It wouldn't be the first time the history of the lower classes had been unwritten.

This. I'm not exactly sure how many fat, ugly women in tight spandex it takes to turn you off to the idea of hiring a prostitute, but I'm pretty sure I'm well past this point.
