    Hair dye...for dogs?

So I logged onto MSN a little while ago, and saw that there was a story about a growing trend in China to dye their dog's hair different colors. Some of the pics shown were pretty elaborate, such as showing a Golden Retriever dyed to look like a tiger, and a Chow Chow dyed to look like a panda.

So have you all had any experiences with people who like to dye their pets' fur different colors, or maybe you've thought about doing it yourself? Do you think it's wrong to do it?

I've seen people do that to their animals before, but usually they dye them just a solid color, or have bits of color dyed into their fur. I had an aunt that would dye her poodle's paws solid pink. I have no idea why, other than the fact that she liked how it looked.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, as long as they're using a hair dye that's safe for an animals skin, but I don't think I personally would ever dye my pets' hair a different color. Too much upkeep if you want to keep your animal looking like that, and also I just don't see a reason to do it.

I know someone who dyed her poodle pink it was so funny. It wasn't a super vibrant pink it was kind of a dim shade but it was still nice. She also liked to paint her dogs nails.

I don't think it's wrong, as long as it's pet safe

I was thinking that since I'm artificially creating it, I'll create it with rocket fuel instead of blood, and thus it will be able to fly, using the dolphin's dorsal fins as wings. And from the air, it will look down upon us all and protect us against sharks, and search for bananas.

There might not be anything dangerous to it, but why would you do that to a pet? Are they just a fashion accessory? Aren't they loved enough the way they are?

    I can't imagine Rolo being any other colour, or made to look like another animal. I don't think he'd forgive us even if we wanted to. ^^;

Personally, i really dislike the things people put their pets through. THEY ARE ANIMALS.

Yes, care for them dearly, but outfits, professional haircut trims, accesories ect are only doing them harm, rather than good, and the perfect food your pet will love? Dont make me laugh... A dog will be perfectly fine eating any dog food, as long as the dog actually likes it.

Dying your dog will just add to this stupidity

I think if I ever suddenly became insane, I'd get myself a white dog, and put a black checkerboard pattern in his fur with dye. Then I'd teach him to skank and I'd have an adorable little rude pup. :3

Then I'd be rolling in the ladies!

Wow I've always wanted a panda, perhaps this is the way to visually have one! XD

But seriously, as long as it didn't harm the pet or cause them any stress during the application then maybe it is okay. I mean, it's nicer than a collar because thats permanently irritating their neck. At least dye they may forget about. However! It could cause an identity crisis... Imagine seeing your reflection afterwards haha... Such a shame

::Edit:: Although... just looking at the image... Having dye so close to the eyes.. No wait, correction, on the eyes... is that really safe? =/

    Re: Hair dye...for dogs?

If I put blue polka dots on Gatsby, he would be totally indifferent to them. The dyeing process would probably cause him the same amount of stress as getting a bath or getting his nails cut (necessary things), but once they were on, he would not care. He wouldn't be embarrassed, it wouldn't interfere with him being warm enough... the only thing that would change would be the hate stares I'd get from other people.

If the dog isn't being neglected or abused, I'm not going to complain. And if a dyed dog gets plenty of love, attention, and exercise from her owner, I'll shake their hands (both the owner's and the dog's).

(I hope you all give your dogs plenty of exercise. A morbidly obese dog will get the owner more resentment from me than a dyed dog.)

Why don't I dye Gatsby? His fur is blonde/white, after all.

Convenience. Practicality. It's not something I care about or want to spend money on.
    Curious?

If people want to change the colur of their pets it's up to them, personally I would never do it. I just don't see the point.
The stuff that was used to change the color of the animal fur may be pet safe, but there must have been experiments to make it pet safe in the first place, and that means animals would of had to of been tested on, which I don't agree with.
If I didn't know that was a dog I would have thought it was actually a panda lol

My dog is actually very protective of his collar. If you take it off of him (which I do every now and then... heh... >>; ), he gets really panicky and will follow you around until you put it back on him. Then, when you do put it back on him, he starts licking his tags, as if cleaning them to get my prints of them or something.

It's... weird. I've never seen or heard of another dog like that, but I'm sure there are some out there.
