Re: The End of the World is on Saturday
There are people who use religion as a tool, and there are people who genuinely practise religion. Camping is using religion as a tool, and is turning religion into a joke. Any believers looking at this thread should understand that people will view it as a joke, or again, a tool to use in trolling.
Every religious foundation has changed over the last two thousand years, so meaning does change. My ancestors would have been beheaded if they believed differently from the monarchy. Just because someone has sex before marriage, gets angry, and downloads stuff, doesn't mean they can't believe in God or practise a religion.
I think it's ignorant that there's people who'll judge someone on their religion, just because they don't follow it the same way, or in the way one person believes it's supposed to be followed. I don't believe in God, but I know better than to judge millions on the acts of so few.
If that's the way it's looked at, then all Muslims are terrorists, all Catholics are paedophiles and all Christians are Bible Bashers. None of which are true.

Okay, sure, you can say all the shit you want and not get arrested. That's true.
But this is a private forum with private rules and if you violate them, we can handle it as we like.
Log out if you like. But don't feel like you can troll our members because you don't like your parents. That is not our problem.

You know what? I completely agree with you. But perhaps I didnt explain myself in enough detail (as I would have been going too far off topic) for you to understand what I was talking about. I am educated. I have been schooled in christianity and various other religions (not so much others) And to my understanding, If one believes in god that does NOT make him a christian. A christian will follow the rules of the holy bible. Its as simple as that.
my argument was that hardly any of the self proclaimed christians do and I am incredibly offended when I was called INDIRECTLY , ignorant.
I didnt know you coulld get away with 'trolling' by being indirect. Got myself a new weapon now.
Re: The End of the World is on Saturday
I can't be (incredibly) offended by being called (indirectly) hopeless? lol.

So have I. I was raised to be a Christian, and I'll tell you now, other kids were raised to be Christians too but in a different manner. I had students in my class who'll go to church every Sunday, students who were whipped with a belt if they did wrong, students who'll groan when asked to pray every morning in assembly, etc... different.
There's different interpretations of religion. Some people will kill in the name of religion, some will offer aid, some with stick to what they know best, and some will hide away under a pew at church. But lumping everyone together in one solid lump because a few will act differently is wrong.
Also, the Bible isn't a rule book. It's a guide book to leading a good life. It's completely up to the reader how they interpret a good life. We all have free will - so who's to say who's wrong and who's right?
Re: The End of the World is on Saturday
I'm gonna start a new religion called Iloveyouletshug, and I want to officially invite everyone here to join me. When we see our differences getting the best of us, like we have with the last few posts, we'll all come together at this place:
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1329/...adc9e972_o.jpg
...and we'll just do a giant group hug, and there will be cake and icecream after the ceremony, and wine, and you don't have to wear clothes if you don't want to.

Considering it was God who gave the free will in the first place... ugh. Pointless.

When you blatantly post incorrect information about a topic then claims about your education can be put into question. The main requirement in Christianity is to believe in God as your Savior and repent of your sins. That's it. You can become a Christian on your death-bed if you want. There are stricter forms of Christianity that violate the teachings of Jesus, such as Catholicism. Catholicism, for example, has heavy restrictions and ceremonial practices that are contradictory to the teachings of the New Testament.
As far as this preacher is concerned, he clearly is in violation of the Bible he claims to uphold. If you believe in the Bible, you should know that only God knows when the end will come and anyone trying to predict it is a blasphemer. He should be stripped of his position immediately.

I'm going to have to disagree with you there. It can be argued that predicting the end of the world is in fact not blasphemous. In the bible, it does state that only God will know when the world will end, however, when God states this in the bible, he is making a prediction himself, as the events in the Book of Revelations hasn't happened yet.
Until God proves his prediction to be true, all current and previous end of the world predictions are not blasphemy.
If God's prediction in the Book of Revelations is true, then Mr. Camping just saved the world. He prevented it from ending on May 21st, and he'll prevent it from ending on whatever day he most recently predicted. He saved 6.7 billion lives. He should be made a saint, and you people should be thanking him instead of criticizing him.

And yet it has stayed in this world the longest, as it is dated even before ALL existing Christian sects. If something is not from God, it would disappear quickly. Look it up in the book of Acts. (Not trying to debate or anything, but I am Catholic, so forgive me for defending my beliefs)
@Clint: It's written several times in the Bible that no one but God knows the hour, simple as that. So anybody claiming to know that hour is not telling the truth, or just doesn't know any better. Yes, God made the prediction. But only HE knows.

And we're just supposed to take his word on that? Where's the proof that only God knows the hour? I've never seen any substantial proof that God is an all knowing fortune teller. Everything in the bible except for the Book of Revelations supposedly happened already by the time it was written. That isn't fortune telling, that's just story telling.
Until God proves his word by ending the world, he's in violation of breaking one of this own commandments. Thou shall not bear false witness. I had no idea God could sin.
Taking that into consideration, anybody who makes a prediction about the end of the world is just trying to make themselves more like Christ, and becoming more Christ-like is precisely what Christianity is about.
Re: The End of the World is on Saturday
Im reviving this.
If you are arguing that all this obscene nonsense and commotion was not caused by religion, then I would simply disagree with you. Since the topic of conversation seems to be based on the end of the world/absurd beliefs of those who get theirs from their religions. Whether or not they have misinterpreted the bible is of no interest to me. Although the bible is supposedly perception based, it still remains the cause.

They're absurd beliefs because of religion? because you do not follow the Bible? or because nothing happened?
I'm not a strict follower of the Bible even though my personal beliefs lean closer to it.
I still don't understand why people make a huge fiasco over it. I suppose it is interesting to try and guess, but WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE. Pat on the back to the guy who uses rubix cubes and Chinese finger traps to figure out when that is, so we can all sit around and wait for our doom. Weeeeeeee. I personally like the idea of not knowing when I'll spontaneously combust.
I can make predictions too. I predict we're all going to die when the Sun goes through it's normal star-like life cycle and engulfs the earth in billions of years. It keeps things nice and simple.
Re: The End of the World is on Saturday
We're all gonna die tomorrow. If we don't, then I'm throwing a huge party and everyone who didn't die is invited. This has nothing to do with religion, unless your religion worships alcohol.
SUP LADIIIIIIIIES
