Does Lay Gaga promote female empowerment, or deride it?

Have you ever heard of Lady Gaga? I don't know if you seen the latest album cover for "Born Like Way" by Lady Gaga, but it features her with the body of a motorcycle with her head and arms in the front. This is objectification, and goes against the values of feminism. Yet people always say that she's promoting female empowerment in her songs? How is being a motocyle (a vehicle that more often than not associated with men) saying that women are powerful? It doesn't, it's a sham!

Now Amazon is going bankrupt because they offered fans the album for a mere .99 cents, and nobody is buying it.

Probably due to the fact her music sucks and the novelty of her slutty ways are wearing off???

This is what happens to mainstream popstars, they get chewed up and spat out fast.

Music with no artistic merit = fashion noise.

Re: Does Lay Gaga promote female empowerment, or deride it?

If you're using objectification to promote anything, it's ideal to promote yourself as something cool. A motorcycle is one of the coolest and manliest things known to man. I would rather promote herself as a human motorcycle then as a human streetlamp.

Promoting herself as a motorcycle signifies that she likes to be ridden. And by ridden, I mean ****ed. And by ****ed, I mean with a penis in her vagina (or vice versia, depending on if she's actually a man.) She isn't going against the values of feminism, because all feminists practice BDSM. It's just their way of life.

Which brings me to my next point; the education of women. It seem that ever since women have been allowed to educate themselves, they've become more independent, and have focused on radical ways of thinking like "female empowerment," or some other crap like that. God did not make women to think. He made women to serve men.

I say she can do what she wants. People can be "Oh, that's SOOO against feminists!" but isn't that just oppressing her and telling her what she can and can't do? She has every right to express her art how she wants to, in the same way a page 3 model can whip her tits out in The Sun newspaper - what's more objectifying? Who is anyone to say any different?

    It's hypocritical.

To truly erode away the limitations placed on females, you need to first remove the concept of masculine and feminine, which negatively reinforce the divide. Saying a motorcycle is masculine could be seen as anti-feminist in itself and definitely doesn't help the cause. Showing herself with the body of a motorcycle exemplifies the concept that a motorcycle is in fact not a masculine device.

I won't delve into a super deep discussion on why I think feminism is a bias of convenience(alimony is a fine example). Suffice it to say, El Gatopod, I think you're probably reading too far into the picture and if anything, reading it backwards.

How does a woman with the body of a motorcycle emasculate the motorcycle itself? Men love riding motorcycles. Men love riding women. Men would most certainly love riding a woman with the body of a motorcycle. It's totally masculine.

With that being taken into consideration, I think Lady Gaga might have a ****.

No, I don't think having her face on a motorcycle is objectifying at all. Who says a motorcycle has to be a symbol of masculinity? Lady Gaga has never claimed there to be anything wrong with being 'masculine' or 'feminine' and I think more often than not she makes of point of expressing BOTH just to show that gender roles are so much in our heads.

In the Judas MV she portrays Mary, a strong symbol of femininity, in a motorcycle gang, which is conventionally male. She doesn't play a 'strong female character' in that particular video, but she has portrayed strong women in her music. It just kind of goes to show that to be someone who promotes gender equality you don't have to hoist your gender up as being dominant, it's about being allowed to be any way you want regardless of gender.
