    The cold hand problem

Ever sat down and played video games for extended amounts of time? Ever found that eventually, your hands cool down and freeze up, spoiling your gaming/computer experience?
Well now there just might be a solution.

Just recently, i bought myself a pair of fingerless gloves to fight the cold hand problem during times of computer and console use.

However: They do make typing a little different to what im used to, but i believe this is something i will be used to in a rather short amount of time, im already typing at about 3/4 of the speed that i used to, but this is better in my opinion than having my fingers lock up at an important moment.

So, has anyone else had this problem and fixed it, not had the problem at all? Please enlighten the rest of us to how we can fix this for ourselves.

No because I take care of my hands when I play video games for a long time. Doing that has helped me to do hand exercises less and less. Shake your hands around every hour.

    Re: The cold hand problem

I've begun trying that out recently, but it never really completely eliminated the problem, because of warmth.

These gloves i have will probably do it in combination though

I always dip my hands in very hot water before I play games.

ps. it could be a circulation problem.

I stream Bloodborne, FFXIV, and occasionally other games.

    Re: The cold hand problem

I cup my hands and blow on them before I play a game. It's out of habit and it's kind of a good luck tradition thing too. Cold hands suck though, especially with twitch reaction/fps type games because the cold makes you second-guess your muscle memory and can mess with your brain because you feel like you need to overcompensate on the controller which can throw your shot off until you get warmed up, literally.

Idk about buying gloves just for the sake of playing though, that just seems like overkill lol.

Exactly, however, i did want to buy the gloves for the sake of wearing them all the time anyways, it is winter here in australia after all, and i do like the look of them myself.

But then again, a little overkill can be somewhat necessary

That's strange, lol I'm opposite I have get really sweaty palms :s

I don't like it D: I always wipe my hands on my pants while I play, especially when it's something where I can't be bothered to get up and wash my hands. To avoid it I have to make myself get up once in a while and wash them.

I didn't used to have such sweaty palms.. when I didn't game so much, but now they get clammy all the time, even when I'm not gaming

    Re: The cold hand problem

I've never had problems with my hands when playing video games. Only time I have problems is when my joints feel a little stiff or cramped, and I know it's bad for you, but usually a quick cracking sorts that out. Maybe because my hands are constantly doing things, I don't notice it, or they're strong enough to handle it?

Even in winter, my hands don't get problems.

Maybe my house just has poor heating

And to gypsey, I get a similar problem as well. I remember washing my keyboard from all the dirty sweat marks it got from constant use during the summer.

On the rare occasion I can play for several hours straight my hands cramp up and if I put on the vibration it usually helps. But my hands don't get cold, but I do get the chills from staying in one spot for a long time.

    Re: The cold hand problem

Does carpal tunnel screw with your circulation? Maybe that's your problem. I know that your pinkie and ring finger are supposed to go numb (well, I 'know' in that I read it on Wikipedia at some point). Sometimes that happens to me and I get worried, but I've yet to get any burning cramping, so I'll continue to tempt fate.

But no, never get cold fingers. Maybe you're just a coke addict.

    Until now!

    Re: The cold hand problem

To say what most people have already said, this is most likely a circulation problem and if you find that your hands are resting on the controls in position higher than your heart, that may be a contributing factor. Try and rearrange it where your hands are lower than your heart.

Can't say that I have ever had a cold hand problem.. more a hot hand one haha. Whenever people are cold they always use me -.- .

But as for a solution... Maybe keep a hot drink handy? And then warm your hands up on it occasional and take a sip! =^~=

That's what she said? Wow that's such a great out of context.

In any case, my body temperature is naturally lower than normal but I've never had a problem with cold hands. It sounds to me like you should visit a doctor.

    Re: The cold hand problem

My hands are kind of weird. Normally they're really hot and sweaty, but at other times they get really cold. A lot of times my hands even start to turn a bluish/purplish color. I usually just try to ignore it, and sooner or later it goes away.

You probably have cold hands because of a lack of blood circulating like everyone else said. You could just ignore it like I do. I don't think it would be too much of a problem unless your hands started getting numb...

    Re: The cold hand problem

My hands do start to get numb. I havent really sat for an extended period of time in a while. However my hands are below my heart loacation-wise, and i dont think this problem is bad enough for a visit to the doctors.

Might have to wait for FF14, ill be no lifing a little then. These gloves should be a fairly good solution. they just lack testing.

    Yup. I get that too.

With me, it's due to poor circulation.

Socks don't seem to help much either.

As long as I don't sit at the computer a few hours before bed though, I find that I'm much better off.

    Re: The cold hand problem

I've been getting similar from temperature (also Aussie ).
I find that in my house I'm fine as we have a good heater and if off I have a great Doona I can get under, but when at some mate's places with no heating, or when working, the colder temps can make my hands go numb quite fast.
Fingerless gloves have always seemed to work for me unless it gets noticeably below 0 degrees.

One bit of advice on gloves I can give is that leather fingerless gloves will give you more accurate usage of your fingers, but woolen ones are generally a bit warmer.

The longest I've ever played a game for is over 18 hours. I never did hand exercises or anything of the sort. Only problems I ever had were legs falling asleep and needing to change the position I was sitting or laying in every now and then.

HAH! I LOVE this thread. It's a lot worse during the fall and winter, but this has happened to me all my life. I also have a medical condition called raynaud's syndrome where they turn blue-ish and numb... I usually do some squats or just ignore it til it goes away. It can get pretty painful though

never really experienced this "Cold Hand" problem, except ofcourse when it is generally really cold outside (winter months) and some genius (me) leaves the windows wide open, or when i forget to turn the heating on lol..

i sometimes experience a slight pain in the wrist, if i haven't moved much in a long period of time, but nothing else really...
