I think "relevant" is a better word for it than "important." It is important that people over there are still dying by the truckloads. Their losses are painful. But it's more relevant to us in the United States that many of our own citizens lost limbs and lives at an international event in one of our cities. It affects our families and it will affect future marathons and events. I think it's very immature of whoever that was to try and make people feel guilty for mourning the loss of their fellow citizens and athletes. Like seriously, stfu.

We had a shooting here awhile ago where innocent people died. Not many mind you, not as horrific as other shootings that happen out there but it definitely affected me more than say reading about a similar shooting down in the States. Yes, I felt awful for those families too... but it hits harder when it is closer to home for sure!

I had friends start circulating posts similar to the one that Rowan posted - they drive me nuts. There was one about an alleged attack somewhere the week before where many children in Afghan died and crying foul that no media attention was drawn to that. Irritating when the people posting those pictures certainly didn't post anything about what happened overseas when they actually happened. :S

holy shit i creep myself out sometimes.

so for those of you who just woke up, apparently two men were found screwing around outside of MIT. A police officer noticed suspicious activity and went to approach the guys, but the officer was disarmed, assaulted and later died in hospital. the two men then carjacked a mercedes and drove away. Police followed, then realized that the two guys were firing guns and throwing pressure cooker bombs and grenades. the two suspects flee on foot, with one of them shot and killed. the other one is still at large while I'm writing this. These two were confirmed to be suspects in the Boston bombings at the marathon as well.

This is where it gets interesting: apparently the suspect at large, there have been some people saying that it could be (not for certain yet) a young man by the name of Sunil Tripathi. This guy was a philosophy major at Brown who seemingly disappeared with out a trace almost 1 month ago, with last known footage of him was a street photo taken of him walking away from his apartment late at night, taken 20 minutes after he was on his computer, leaving his phone and wallet behind.

One last thing that me longing to be convinced of the connnection of Sunil is, how can some seemingly depressed and underweight early 20s guy end up disarming, stealing multiple cars, making bombs, etc and become a giant menace to the city of Boston in under a month? what is the motive for such a transformation, if it really is him that is....

I really want to stay up and see the conclusion, but I need to go to bed.

EDIT: apparently there are conflicting reports of whats going on and that Sunil is most likely not the suspect at large. I"ll just leave the post as it is here for now because im sure things will change once the morning hits and we get more info.

Sunil is not responsible for this.

They have in fact shot and killed one of the men, Tamerlan Tsarnaev but sadly not before they killed an MIT police officer by the name of Sean Collier. His younger brother Dzhokhar is still at large. Boston and a few surrounding communities are in lockdown.

Most of the focus seems to be on Watertown right now. There are APCs in the streets and Black Hawks.

Bombs are a no no, but guns are ok a bit hypocritical if you ask me. Personally I think this is getting way to much media attention which is exactly what they want ( who ever that may be ) when the same sort of thing happend in Iraq, Iran couple days later where was the coverage on that, then the Waco explosion at the fertiliser plant, seriously that s**t has always been hazardous that's that same material they used in control mine explosion, open cut mines I think though because of the force produced by the explosion it disintegrates most things in it's path.

I just think it's being ramped up a fair bit no disrespect to the injured and families of the victims. The Waco explosion I dare say was mal practice or little to no work place health and safety in act. I never did hear how the nearby school and hospital went with it though did anybody hear about that?
