Bath Salt, the "Face Eating" Drug

I'm sure most of you have heard of the case where a dude stripped naked and eat a hobo's face in Miami.
The police shot him 4 times before he went down.

They suspect that it had to do with a drug called "bath salts".
I looked it up and it seems to be any chemical compound made from a variety of ingredients which resemble things like meth, extacy, etc...
The effects remind me of PCP from the way they are described.
I faintly remember hearing of cases where people eat their own fingers, bashed their heads into walls and crap like that

My question is this,
What do people smoke whatever they can get their hands on?
Spice (one of the lamest drugs I've ever seen) even seems to be responsable for strokes.

I'm a working kind of person, so drugs are out for me.
But wouldn't one at least want to know whats in a particular drug and what its supposed to do to before they try it?

Looking at the ingredients has never been a big thing for most people. Take food, for instance. Be honest: If you were perfectly aware of what your favourite food item was made of, would you have tried it the first time? But you didn't. You tried it, and by god it was and still is delicious. Not to say drugs are like food, but the basic relation is there. Read the ingredients before ingesting, and you'll probably be less apt to go full zombie on someone.

I took a look at the pics of the victim after the attack ... one advice : if you're sensitive never look at this ! This drug is very dangerous : the homeless don't have any face now ! Bahhhh I had pity for him ... and the drug was very strong for making a man eat the flesh of another man is very horrible.

It seems like "Bath Salts" have been around since at least 2010. The DEA put an emergency ban on products commonly found in it and a lot of places that once sold it have stopped stocking the stuff. Legislation to officially make it and similar substances illegal is in the works right now.
It brings up a slight tangent, but I'm going to throw this out there anyway...

How do you feel about the DEA's ability to enact an emergency ban which becomes effective instantly and (apparently) has no time limit?
It seems like it could be abused.
I know Obama wanted to push a bill that would make food manufacturers (that's a scary term...) limit the ammount of sodium they put in a product. I don't know if the bill was voted on or passed or whatever, but it's kind of silly.
It is extremely socialist to pass laws which limit a person's ability to eat caffine, sodium, calories, etc...
