    Most Violent Anime You've Watched

There is a recent issue in many countries especially France, saying that animes poison the minds of youths with realistic visual violence. So what! Blame the violence on gangster movies, child abuse, or CNN for showing acts of extremism in the Middle East!
Anyway, the most violent ones I've seen are Blood+ and Ghost in the Shell.
Both have very gory scenes of people being chopped up or shot through the head Lots of hacking and slashing in Blood+ and loads of violent action scenes in Ghost in the Shell. Both of these are masterpieces in the world of anime.

I so far haven't touched anything with a rating of over OT (older teen 16+). I guess if I did have to choose from my sweet, non-gory mangas, it would be a tie between Fushigi Yugi and Bleach. Those are the only ones with any actual fighting scenes that kind of look bloody...ish...y.

I am sure many people will agree with me that it is the infamous Berserk show... also while I haven't read it apparently the blood on there is quite tame compared to the Manga. Also I keep forgetting to watch the Show Claymore which I think has a lot too.. in time I'll catch up with it.

I really don't go looking for gory stuff or things like that...but....a friend had lent me a tape of Neon Genesis Evangelion...I think it was the movie....because of that, I swore to never watch the series...

If anything it was a lot more disturbing than the X movie... and that one was pretty bloody...but I think it was because of how Evangelion messes with your head ToT

Now that's what I'm talking about! Nothing gets more bloody, gorey, and grotesque than slaughtering off 100 men at once in one episode. Just for the record, this show was aired in some countries for a while until they realised that it's so bloody that it's even unfitting for the extreme late night showings on their channels.

Also check out Hellsing, Jin-Roh, Ghost in the Shell, and Akira for a gorey adventure of a lifetime!

I haven't seen too much anime. I think the bloodiest one I've ever seen was FLCL. All 6 episodes. That was some pretty crazy sh!t.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Elfen Lied. That would be by far the most violent anime that I have watched. Blood+ and Akira really does not compare to that anime. There is tons of blood and so many heads exploded or ripped off. Lucy goes so far as to use the comedy relief character in the episode as a human shield to take a hail of bullets.

Blood flies and flows like water in the anime, though more so at the begining than near the end. At the end there is a less fodder to be killed. But it is still the bloodiest and most violent that I have seen. I would say that Akira is about the only comparison which has the old tradition of containing tons of blood. It is definitely violent, but it just seems more tame.

I would imagine that Berserk would be very violent from what I hear. I'll have to check it out sometime to see where it stands.

It's a shoot out between Elfen Lied and Berserk. I've seen both, both incredibly violent. However, as far as the mangas are concerned, the manga versions of those are even more extreme... 'n' dat is sum gangsta ass shi-et.

It's a bummer we don't have all these here...But i've heard that the Bersek is preety bad. I might as well download some episodes of it.

In general, i haven't watched any bloody anime. The worst one i've watched is Afro Samurai ( yes, featuring Samuel Jackson lol lol lol). But i don't think there are more than 5 episodes; it must have gotten cut. Anyway, that samurai was doing some serious damage.

one of the most violent anime i know is Samurai X. yeah, i like this anime before but the thing that makes me sick is that there has killings, with blood and gore... and there some scenes that the dead people found hanging somewhere... my it really makes me sick sometimes...

Yeah, Blood+ really brought in a lot of gore. But next to that would have to be the Gundam Seed/Destiny series. The characters are so violent that it's scary.

I haven't actually seen all that much anime. But probably around 95% of the ones I have seen have some sort of blood/gore/fighting in them.

-Neon Genesis Evangelion - Not overly gory.. But surely you'll agree it had it's moments? They were fairly rare.. For some reason, a couple of scenes in Death and Rebirth stood out to me.

-Ergo Proxy - The first four or so episodes, I guess. They were a little gory. An image that stood out in my head... I think it was one of the Autoraivs, maybe? Whatever it was.. Ankle snapped and nasties spurted out XD. That was lovely indeed. And the scene when Vincent and Pino first kinda find eachother.. That too. Anyway.. Won't spoiler too much ><.

-Samurai X - I actually caught this on Foxtel... And got bored with it quite quickly. I wouldn't say it's particularly, typically 'blood and guts' gory, but when you think that this thread is "Most Violent Anime" and not "Most Gory Anime" I guess it comes out almost on top. There's certainly a fair bit of killingness.

Ninja Resurrection, hands down. Or maybe it was just disturbing to me because of the theme. But just depictions of countless heads on pikes, children getting slaughtered, a girl being raped to death... it was pretty terrible. I'd rented it because I'd enjoyed Ninja Scroll. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I also don't know if I'd like Berserk, although I've never seen it. Anyhoo...

Hellsing and Guyver(the original was single most violent anime I've ever seen. People were losing-body-parts/melting/being-blown-apart/cut-in-half/crushed in every single episode)

I'm sure I've seen some other violent ones, I just can't think of them. I didn't think that Elfin Lied was too horribly violent, it had violence and lots to be sure, but not what I think of when I think of hardcore violence.

For Tao's sake, in one episode of Guyver, the main character Sho Fukamachi had to rip his own arms apart because a creature had biologically fused them together. THAT IS VIOLENCE.

Man, then you're missing out so much. Evangelion wasn't that bloody. At least, I didn't think the series was that bloody. It was more intense than anything, and it gave ya a good mindf*ck. I still don't understand, but I don't even have to. Besides it's like a paradigm.

As far as most violent anime I've seen, I thought Ninja Scroll was pretty crazy. However, that was before my anime cherry was really popped, and I can remember watching things like Akira and getting disturbed. All that stuff's rather mild in my perspective now.

The Hellsing OVA is by far the most deliciously gruesome thing I've seen. I love it though, just beautifully sadistic.

I'm very interested in Berserker now though, after reading so much about it in this thread.

Ahh... Hellsing. I remember all the blood and gore in the manga; very brutal. I thought Bubblegun Crisis was a very interesting Mindf*ck. I had nightmares about the way a little girl character died. Very sad.

Oh yeah: Mindf*ck violence = Godchild and to think: A magazine in America published that shit for a while. I remember....

    Spoiler:
...how members in a rich girl's Alice in Wonderland club kept dying by the hand of a killer dressed up as the white rabbit. Loads of blood and a decapitation. Whoa. The mind **** got better when the last two members (the rich girl and the main character's kid sister) switched rooms and the killer got the rich girl. It was the rich girl's dad who just went flat out crazy and killed himself in a gory fashion if I remember rightly.

    ....and then...

    Spoiler:
A girl in love with the main character takes a love potion and ends up tearing out her hair and impaling her face upon a mirror before her face explodes, spraying blood everywhere.

Now that is not only gory, but extremely disturbing.

It would be a toss between Elfen Lied and Berserk. But I think Elfen Lied is more gory.
Some of the things that Lucy gets humour out of are shocking.

I do read Berserk though. The manga is a lot worse then the anime but Elfen Lied still beats it in my opinion.

The fact that so many people enjoy this sort of thing disturbs me. >.>

When it comes to violence, mainly gore, I actually refuse to watch the worst of it. It's true, in this day and age there are still people who haven't been desensitized. I'm one of them. I suppose if I had to I could force myself to watch that sort of thing but...why would I? There's no reason to. I will say though, that I can tolerate far more in anime than I can with live action. I'll still probably never have the desire to watch most of what's been listed in this thread.

That said, for me, I'd say that Fullmetal Alchemist is probably the most explicitly violent anime I've seen to date. That exploding brain thing...yeah. That's gross. If I knew it was like that I probably never would have started watching it in the first place. But, it's not really gratuitous so I'm tolerating it rather well, I think.

Its not as though I get a perverse pleasure out of watching extreme acts of violence. However, it is pretty common for anime to have violent scene. You're watching Fullmetal Alchemist right now and that is one of the best anime around, but as you said brains blow up and you see intestines thrown about. They do not do it constantly, but it can be graphic at times. But it should not be dismissed for a few scenes, its still an amazing anime to watch.

I don't watch an anime for the violence I watch it for the story. Well aside from DBZ, there is only fighting in there so all you are seeing is violence. But that aside I'm not drawn towards an anime because it is violent. Some of my favorite anime does not even have fighting. So I don't think that everyone here gets pleasure out of watching, but who knows.

Both very violent. All Kenshiro does is walk from place to place and beats the shit out of people, it usually involves their heads exploding too, with about 4 times the amount of blood that the average human can carry spraying all over the place. It's so excessive I love it.

Violence is simply just another form of artistic expression – one used to help in enriching or deepening the meaning behind something, or to something else connected with it, acting essentially as an epiphenomenon - and one which probably represents reality better than most. Some watch it purely for entertainment value, others through some sort of sadistic or artistic applicability. Of course it can also be used just to shock when no real or initial meaning can be found (Apocalypse Zero springs to mind).

I'm quite surprised to see that Urotsukidoji hasn't been listed here – Legend of the Overfiend and Legend of the Demon womb. It's easily one of the most infamous anime ever known, and has also frequently been deemed the sickest. When it was released some of its more explicit scenes were entirely removed in the US, the UK, and Australia by the BBFC and OFLC - where new animation had to be created for the sake of continuity. And in later chapters, such as The Secret Garden and The Long Road to God, the content was considered so perverse and explicit in nature they ended up being banned entirely throughout many contries.

So if you like, or are at least comfortable with the thought of women being raped and mutilated by huge demons and insane scientists; apocalypticism, misanthropy, mass slaughter, watching the world as it's destroyed, and seeing massive blood-thirsty monsters fighting to the death in battles of carnage and destruction, then Urotsukidoji is the anime for you! And if you do plan on watching it, I'd recommend the uncut and uncensored versions; you'll probably never see a more twisted nor depraved anime – though personally I just found it enjoyable to watch. It had some interesting characters (such as Münchhausen) and a good story. Old school anime, but extremely violent.

Members of the B.O.D are highly advised to watch it.

The second most violent anime in my opinion would be Apocalypse Zero (the only reason I placed this second is because I found the violence to be not so much as intense but more funny and just gratuitous – which made it weaker to me than Urotsukidoji).

Third would be between Berserk and Elfen Lied. But still, even they fail in comparison to Urotsukidoji and Apocalypse Zero.

I just recently watched 'Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend', and 'Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Demon Womb' which were pretty hardcore. Aside from that Ninja Scroll was awesome.

I don't have a problem with gore or sexual themes, they're forms or entertainment aswell and as long as they entertain people then they're a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah Elfen Lied was the most gore/violent anime that I've ever seen. I wouldn't want to p!ss off Lucy no matter if she is an adult or when she was a child. Lucy could easily end the human race with her arms, slicing people in half or ripping off arms, legs and heads off. Elfen Lied is the best violent anime of all time.

Gantz was pretty violent. I've only watched two episodes of it, but yeah. I can see myself watching the series in the future, I just haven't been in the mood for anime in general, lately. Berserk.. Princess Mononoke..They had a decent amount of blood and a good story line.

The most violent I've seen that probably no one has heard of has to be Karas both movies. It isn't a tv series but a movie series only two of them: The Prophesy and The Revelation. It's unrated because of people being cut to bits and a whoooooooooooole looooooooooot of blood everywhere even arms cut off. It also has a lot of scary images. What scared me most was when a demon spider lady sucked a man's blood and nothing was left except bloody bones! The second one is not as bad as the first one but still has a lot of blood in it, and being shot over and over everywhere. It's the worst one I've seen. But still it is an awesome anime movie series.

A few of these animes I have not seen but I would have to say its a toss up between Afro Samurai and Hellsing.

Afro samurai kills hundereds of people and everyone seems to be filed with a volcano of blood as they explode all over his sword. Plus it always creeped me out to see
    Spoiler:
Justice the main bad guy get his head choped off and both of his arms choped off only to get back up. Thats plain freaky.

Also in Hellsing for the love of God....
    Spoiler:
Alucard takes a rifle and rams it slowly through a girl and pins her to the wall with it...and there are Nazis. ...Zombie-Vampire-Nazis.
