I'd say Ren and Stimpy
I got thinking, Netflix has empowered me so far as revisiting my childhood cartoons and animated movies. On re-inspection, quite a few of them seem(how to put this) ****ed up. In a disturbing type way that is very appreciable. Has anyone else noticed this?
What cartoons/anime/animated movies truly seem unfit for children upon seeing them later? Any ones that stick out particularly?
I say all of this having fallen in love with the movie Felix the Cat(again). A great movie. That and Heavy Metal(not a kids movie anyway).

I'd say Ren and Stimpy
Ren & Stimpy, and Rocko's Modern Life are two that really come to mind. They also happen to be two of my favorites of all time..
Hell ya! Rocko's Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, Invader Zim, all amazing, but upon a second check they seem so inappropriate.
Seriously, organ harvesting? lol

Haha... Ren and Stimpy was rather vulgar, and yeah, I think that if it was going to be re-aired today on childrens' channels, it wouldn't get very far. My brother had the uncensored versions of some of those shows, and wow. Just wow. A few of those episodes were rather heavily edited for the violence and innuendo involved. He loves them though.Originally Posted by Ragtime

I honestly can't think of any cartoons/animated movies that I would say were a problem. I know that Animaniacs had a lot of humor that I didn't understand as a kid, but when I got older and watched some of the episodes, I appreciated it (and loved it) a lot more.
I guess I could throw this movie out there:
When I was growing up, one of my favorite movies was Who Framed Roger Rabbit. My grandma hated for me to watch it, but she let me anyway. Maybe because I would throw a fit if I didn't get to. Anyway, I remember her telling me years later how she thought that movie was totally inappropriate for children. I think it's fine though, but I remember the controversy it had not that long ago about a few of the scenes where you could see Jessica Rabbit briefly nude if you watched the scenes frame-by-frame. I don't think the whole movie is messed up, but it's pretty messed up that there would be nude scenes of an animated character. Meh. I guess it's just the animators messing around though.

Messed up you say, well then, Cow and Chicken is the first one that comes to my mind. I mean they eat pork's butt for God's sake, they have parents who seem to don't have an upper body and the Devil who doesn't wear a pants.
Also everything that Jhonen Vasquez made is not really for children.

The Simpsons is the only thing that comes to mind >.<
Shin Chan is probably quite inappropiate for children. And I knew it at the time I was watching it while I was a child so no foresight needed. I still find it funny when I watch it now though.

Anything ever put on Adult Swim that isn't originally on Fox (King of the Hill, Family Guy, etc.) It all sucks, but it all definitely is for adults.

Cow and Chicken and I Am Weasel are two really messed up cartoons. I used to love them when I was a kid, but watching them now, I've realised how messed up they really are.
Another one that comes to mind is Courage The Cowardly Dog. That cartoon used to scare the hell out of me.
Definitely Rocko's Modern Life because of the one episode where everyone got naked
that is just wrong
gaint, fat, yellow, NAKED, cow?!?!

Chowder is the main thing that comes to mind. It doesn't so much have adult themes but the jokes and characters are just messed up. Most of the jokes are funny because they make no sense and are just so strange you have to laugh. Also made by the same guys The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack was quite weird seeing that they had an entire episode were everyone got the plague and made jokes about everyone dying. But I still love them cause there better than the childish cartoons usually on.
Everybody has already said the ones which come to my mind- Cow and Chicken, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life and Invader Zim. All of them are bloody brilliant! Shin Chan was also very strange and had some adult themes.
I don't really see why some people get so worked up over cartoons with adult themes. When you're a kid, you don't understand that element, but the adults too. They reach a wider audience, and different age groups are entertained by different parts.
