Your 2013 album of the year

What has been your stand-out album of 2013?

My shortlist, in no particular order as I scroll about my 2013 Spotify playlist:

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
The Flaming Lips - The Terror
Portugal. The Man - Evil Friends
Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork
    Wavves - Afraid of Heights
Inspectah Deck and 7L & Esoteric - CZARFACE
    Bleached - Ride Your Heart
Collen Green - Sock it to Me
Public Service Broadcasting - Inform - Educate - Entertain
    Surfer Blood - Pythons
    Lorde - Pure Heroine
    Deep Vally - Sistrionix
    Waxahatchee - Cerulean Salt
Jaill - There's No Sky (Oh My My)

I think I'm going to go with Pure Heroine, with honourable mentions to ...Like Clockwork, Random Access Memories and Evil Friends.

Here are albums from 2013 that I thought were the most complete and enjoyable:

Larry and his Flask - By the Lamplight
Five Iron Frenzy - Engine of a Million Parts
Streetlight Manifesto - The Hands That Thieve
Nine Inch Nails - Hesitation Marks
Sombear - Love You in the Dark
Reggie and the Full Effect - No Country for Old Musicians
Less Than Jake - See the Light
Authority Zero - The Tipping Point
The Joy Formidable - Wolf's Law

For me, it comes down between Five Iron Frenzy and Larry and his Flask. I think By the Lamplight gets the nod from me, just barely.

By the Lamplight is just more upbeat and diverse in its sound. Engine of a Million Plots is a much more mature album than some of their previous albums, and also more dark. It's great, but it probably wasn't really what I wanted at the time it came out, heh...

I haven't quite decided yet, but I think my No. 1 album of the year will be Modern Vampires of the City, with the likes of Tegan and Sara, Janelle Monae and Daft Punk close behind.

Like Clockwork was really sick! Props on that pick, Alpha!

I bought several albums but the only one that ended up entirely on my IPOD was Jimmy Eat World-Damage. So, I'm gonna go with that one as my main album of the year.

    Honorable mentions:

    Bad Religion-True North
    Jake Bugg-Shangri La
    Mark Kozelek-Like Rats
    Yellowcard-Ocean Avenue Acoustic
    Cage The Elephant-Melophobia

Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City

    Daft Punk did well though.
