I went and saw Nightcrawler. I had absolutely NO IDEA what this movie was about. I just knew it had a 94% on rotten tomatoes (anything over a 90% is usually a must see for me).

It's definitely a breath of fresh air from movies we have been receiving lately (sequels, remakes, super hero). Very original for me. Although I'm not entirely sure I enjoyed it. At least not a 94% liked it.

In the first 20 minutes I found myself completely bored. After that the story was good, excellent acting, no complaints about the soundtrack. I just wasn't digging it. At the end I just wasn't satisfied with the end result I guess.

The movie does have a creepy tone to it which kept me into most of the time.

    Last Movie You Saw/Recommendations

Night of the Museum Secret of the Tomb 7.5/10: Slow at first but the pace quickly picks up during the mid part of the movie. Certainly not as magical as the first but it manages to pull off a great story. This is also one of Robin William's last performances as Theodore Roosevelt and he pulls it off masterfully. Ben Stiller is still as funny as ever and the cast did a good job reprising their roles. Overall a great movie and a fun night out at the movies with friends and family.

Saw the Interview and all in all it was a pretty funny movie, at least the first half. Not like it wasn't funny afterwards though, just not as much imo. Some parts were very foreseeable, but that's what you expect from a generic slapstick Hollywood movie. I give it a solid 7.0/10.

The Dark Crystal is one of those rare, fantastic, intelligent films that takes full advantage of the power of imagination. So few films immerse you in a completely other world so well. It is a classical tale of good and evil.

This story sees Jen and Kira, last of the elf-like Gelfling race, on a journey to the Palace of the grotesquely evil Skeksis in order to heal the fractured Dark Crystal. It is a simple enough story for young chidren to grasp, yet pertinent enough to engross adults.

This is not your typical Jim Henson/Frank Oz fare. Incredibly real and life-like, every creature in the film was brought to life by puppeteers. Some of the creatures and situations are rather frightening and could give a young child nightmares. Giant, black, crab-like soldiers called Garthim are shown breaking suddenly into peaceful areas and causing panic and destruction. There are scenes of evil, vulture-like Skeksis torturing defenseless Podlings (little gnome-ish people). The Skeksis also have sharp, jagged teeth and some make menacing noises.

I watched this film countless times as a young child, and while the creatures were frightening, I don't remember ever being afraid to watch the film. This is a film which does not underestimate the viewer's ability to think and wonder.

The wise, peaceful, four-armed Mystics are as fascinating a film creature as any I've ever seen. The lush, other-worldly settings and beings of The Dark Crystal will continue to fascinate me as they have done all my life. So much in fact I decided to change my whole profile for some shits and giggle!

As a major fan of the film I would love to give it a 10/10 but that's just not fair, so I would settle for an 8/10.

If you haven't had the pleasure of watching it yet here it is for free on YouTube.

Some others great movies I enjoyed watching as a kid and recently are:
    -The Never Ending Story
    -Tommy boy
    -Uncle Buck
    -Harry and The hendesons
    -Labryinth
& of course the old school
    -Star wars films

Just added the last few so hopefully I could spark a memory in someone else that had the opurtunity to watch some of these great classics.

Birdman (the unexpected virtue of ignorance)

is about as pretentious as you guessed it to be, and more. No, i was not expecting a superhero action flick. No, I understood the metaphors and subtext behind the OBVIOUS representations (a metaphor should be as subtle as possible, christ that flying scene was so stupid.) and Yes, I will punch the next person in the face who uses the word "brilliant" to describe anything about the film, including the actors. Where the hell do I begin? Lets just preface this by saying I am no particulary interested in arthouse, although I have seen a fair few arthouse films (the chumscrubber I consider arthouse and I thoroughly enjoyed it as I felt it hit some personal notes for me.) but Birdman seems that It could only ever relate to those in the buisiness of performing and acting, it felt like a massive inside joke that I had the displeasure of understanding. You know when someones talking about something and you know where its heading and the whole time you are facepalming and muttering to yourself "please stfu, please stfu"(inb4 this review-inb4 anything rowan says), welcome to the first half of Birdman. It wasnt just pretentious, it was down-right boring. I had no connection to the characters, there was no character I gave 2 shits about, there was no character development (little to no) and I just couldnt find a single thing to like about the film. I watched it twice in order to be able to have these opinions, so keep with me. It wasn't just the film that shit me, afterwards I did some research about this 2 hour colossal mess of a film. Apparantly keaton and Norton had a running tally on Emma Stone and Zack Galifinackis on who made the most mistakes during their lines. Incedently, Emma Stone made the most mistakes, but how ****ing pompous is that? 2 veteran actors betting on the amount of mistakes the new actors make. Anyway, it ties in to how I feel about the film as a whole. A pretentious, boring snooze fest for those that think they understand deeper meaning when really all they want is to achieve some new meta fedora status never been noted online before.

Heres an idea, look up user reviews on facebook or anywhere online where someone can have an opinion, and count how many times you read the word 'brilliant'. Its the new "bah" of the online sheep.

Last movie I watched was Furious 7. An even greater spectacle than the previous fast and furious films, made even better by a fitting tribute to Paul Walker (RIP) at the end. Going to see The Avengers Age of Ultron on the weekend

Last movie I watched was Jurassic World. The acting was a bit sluggish but the overall payoff was worth it. Great special effects and I loved how they payed homage to the first film, there were many nods to the original sprinkled here and there. Worth seeing in IMAX 3D if you get the chance Overall a great summer popcorn flick. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the theme park ride. Welcome to Jurassic World.

I watched Ant Man with my dad the other night. It was really good, the actual film was better than the trailer that previewed the film, the story was good and there were plenty of humorous moments to breathe more life into the film and it had a great ending. I personally recommend seeing this film, and yes there will most likely will be a sequel seeing that this most likely sold well, marvel movies tend to do that a lot these days.

Casino Royale - James Bond 007

Being a huge fan of Roger Moore and Sean Connery, I was hesitant to get into the revamped James Bond played by Daniel Craig. I was pleasantly surprised at the qualities from the old films they managed to capture in this modern take of James Bond. Since Casino Royale was also a telling of how James Bond came to be 007 (his first mission as a 00 agent), It also showed a different side to him, perhaps more a side that would reflect that of his flaws rather than his cliche' subtle charm. It was with this perspective that we were able to see the development the iconic character we all know as James Bond. The action scenes were well done and not over the top, much like the old films.

    Thoroughly enjoyed Casino Royale.

The Hateful Eight - Not quite Tarantino's finest work, tad bit too long for its own good with some I'm sad to say at times downright irritating music. That being said it's still extremely entertaining film. Impressive cast, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth... and yet, next to all those cinema giants, to my surprise Walton Goggins stole the show.

    Jurassic World

I couldn't stand most of the film. Story, dialog and special effects were all Hollywood garbage IMO, but it had some interesting action scenes and the end was good. Overall, I expected more carnage.

    Terminator: Genisys

I did not watch the spoiler trailer that everyone around me has been screaming about beforehand, so the entire film came as quite a shock. I was generally put-off by the casting choices (other than Arnold, of course) and mercilessly yanked around by the plot, but there was one really good moment that actually brought tears to my eyes. So I would definitely say it's worth the popcorn.

    SPOILER!!:
I don't know about the T-1000 upgrade at the end. There's just something nostalgic about the old reliable mechanical version, much like the original Robocop (not that stupid "tactical" black suit they cooked up), I felt a connection with it, it had an identity, I can't say as much for the liquid metal thing, it's just alien and glossy (much like the sets of the prequel Star Wars movies). so... I'm not terribly excited for any continuations.

P.S. Arnold saying Kyle Reese sounds like he's saying calories

The kid in me was extremely happy with this film, those velociraptors joining T-Rex to fight Indominus Rex filled me with joy, overall it's my second favorite film in the series despite all of its flaws.

The Princess Bride - I can't believe I missed out on this when I was a kid, it's charming, fun, I love how it doesn't take itself seriously while at the same time it doesn't go all the way into parody territory.

I just finished watching Pumpkin Head 2: Blood Wings... I really haven't much to say about this one, the acting was particularly comical. It's definitely something to watch with a gang of brothers on a cold winter's night.

This nursery rhyme is atrocious! Who the heck would conjure Pumpkin Head?

Completely in a different class than what's above it, but afterwards I watched Taken 3 It was rather awesome. I do wish there was a hint more action, though. I suggest you avoid the trailer because it's got quite a few spoilers that just wreck the whole thing.

I must admit, that I never really expect this film to be at least good. Too much advertising here and there etc. But this is the case when surprise is really pleasant. Action,humor,music,characters- everything is awesome+R rating=awesome movie.

Spectre - "Spoilers" ahead. Not as good as Casino Royale or Skyfall, however it's better than Quantum of Solace so take that for what it's worth. I never thought I would say this, but Christoph Waltz was underwhelming, his true identity was painfully obvious to anyone even remotely familiar with 007's previous films. This unnecessary secrecy felt like Star Trek Into Darkness all over again, difference being unlike Khan Blofeld didn't deliver. Overall, entertaining film with some impressive action and set pieces.

I would lower the score a bit, but otherwise I agree wholeheartedly. It's everything I ever wanted out of a Deadpool movie, well, almost everything. One of few films I saw twice at cinema. Plus, we'll finally see Cable, something I've been waiting for ever since the first X-Men came out.
