    Disney's Masterpieces

Lately I love watching old Disney's animations. I watched Beauty and The Beast, Cinderella, and Lion King II last week. They bring back my memories when I was child haha

Disney's animations are just fabulous and it's very hard to forget them. And they have lovely soundtracks, too. Who loves Disney here?

    Re: Disney's Masterpieces

I don't mind watching most Disney movies, but I can't stand most of the sequels, especially the newer ones.

I think it's the mature themes some of the older ones seemed to hold, something I've missed from most of the more modern stuff. Political correctness and the overbearing need to protect the youth is a cancer for quality toons.

    Re: Disney's Masterpieces

I used to watch Disney movies all the time. Even when I was well into my teens and early twenties I would pop in a Disney movie and sit back and enjoy it, even if I had seen it a million times previously.

I can still find some entertainment in a few of the movies, and I do love a lot of the music, but it's not like it used to be.

Now, I like the stuff that comes from Pixar and Studio Ghibli the most. Yeah, Disney has affiliations with both of those companies, but I don't really consider anything made from those two studios as "Disney movies". I do still want to go see "The Princess and the Frog" though, because I do hear great things about that movie. Also, the new Tron movie coming out looks like it will kick ass.

I don't want Claire to watch any of the Disney Princess Movies. I just don't think they send a proper message to little girls.

This picture sums up my feelings on it in a nutshell.

Think you're being a harsh on some of those films there (especially Belle, a character where she is thought odd for reading, refusing a suitor and not acting like an old-fashioned woman). Plus it's not like regular live action films are much better sometimes for what happens to their female characters (or indeed, how Hollywood treats any actress over 35).

I love Disney movies! I grew up watching them. My favorite movie ever is Alice in Wonderland (the cartoon). Beauty and the Beast is probably my second favorite, Gaston is hilarious!

    Someone has some issues.

Also, Aurora (Briar Rose) wasn't killed. She was supposed to be killed, but she was only put to sleep instead.

And I don't see anything wrong with being saved by a prince (a man).
I like girly girls who are somewhat helpless. I certainly wouldn't want a butch feminist as a love interest.

Killed, put to sleep, same difference. Just like in the old Dragonball Z shows that were on toonami, instead of Nappa saying "I'ma gonna kill you!" he says "I'ma gonna put you in another dimension!!" But we all know where Piccolo went.

I love that how if you aren't a somewhat helpless girly girl, then you are a butch feminist.

I agree Rocky, "kill you", "put you to sleep", "another dimension"... its all the same. Getting your point across without actually saying that they're going to kill you.

Hell yea the disney movies were the greatest cartoons ever, well besides Tom and Jerry! My Fave out of the collection was Alice in Wonderland, The Lion King (The hyenas were hilarious along with Timon and Rumba), and The Jungle book which was also a great disney classic.

I haven't watched Princess and Frog yet. How's the story?
Disney Princess offers so much fantasy and it's very hard to miss the new series! I like Disney's way to make it nowaday. They still hold onto their 2D-animation. It's just.. very 'Disney' lol

I love disney films especially the original aniamtions, sooo glad disney went oback to their roots and made The princess and the frog, I loved it sooo much.
I've been trying to get my little girl into the disney princesses but not luck , only disney thing she has paid any attension to was Tinkerbell and Winney the pooh and Co.
The only thing that drive me mad about disney, is the disney cinemagic channel, they are having a "disney princess season" and they have decided to put Mulan into the listing, but since when was Mulan a princess???? She married and army General, so where does the princess part come from???

Disney has Mulan in the lineup of Disney Princesses though. I even checked the official website (yes, the princesses have an official website ):

Disney Princess - The Official Princess Website

I suppose they have her in there so Disney can have more variation among the "princesses". *shrugs* That's just my guess.

Could be! Maybe they wanted to show that they're more "cuturally diverse"? That's my guess.

    Re: Disney's Masterpieces

I liked (and still do) Mulan, The Lion King, Hercules, Pocahontas and Beauty and the Beast. I hate the new Disney movies because they have none of that old charm that their movies used to have. I mean honestly - what's with the Disney channel? The Jonas Brothers (that isn't exactly a movie ....) HONESTLY? Disney sure has gone down hill. I mean some of their newer movies are ok but nothing beats the ones that came out before the new millennium.

    Re: Disney's Masterpieces

They really have declined in recent years, it's actually quite sad to face the reality that there will never again be a real Disney Masterpiece if this trend keeps up. I mean some of their live action movies are still alright, but they've got nothing on the classic animated films that put Disney on the map.
For Our Lord Sheogorath, without Whom all Thought would be linear and all Feeling would be fleeting. Blessed are the Madmen, for they hold the keys to secret knowledge. Blessed are the Phobic, always wary of that which would do them harm. Blessed are the Obsessed, for their courses are clear. Blessed are the Addicts, may they quench the thirst that never ebbs. Blessed are the Murderous, for they have found beauty in the grotesque. Blessed are the Firelovers, for their hearts are always warm. Blessed are the Artists, for in their hands the impossible is made real. Blessed are the Musicians, for in their ears they hear the music of the soul. Blessed are the Sleepless, as they bask in wakeful dreaming. Blessed are the Paranoid, ever-watchful for our enemies. Blessed are the Visionaries, for their eyes see what might be. Umm.. about Mulan, I think she's enlisted as a princess because she has saved the life of china's emperor. And she's married to legendary general, too. Well, we can't conclude that princess always lives on a castle or wears crown, right? Mulan is just.. a princess in her world

Lucid - so there are just two types of women, girly girls and butch feminists? Very logical!

As for including Mulan in their Princesses list, they should just rename it Disney Heroines or something.

Where did I even say that?
I'm just comparing two extreme opposites, not all of the in betweens.

The point being that it's stupid to say something like Disney princesses are a bad influence for such ridiculous reasons. What child is even going to care about that?

And it's not like Cinderella was forced to go to the ball. She went of her own free will for the chance to escape her horrible servitude.
I mean, she could have just killed her stepmother and stepsisters. Who knows how that would have turned out...

Haha it would become more not suitable for kids, I guess
