I haven't watched much anime as its only on at midnight here in NZ but anyway frome what I have seen on Adult Swim, Full Metal Alchemest was pretty good but I stopped watching it as I like watching things from the begining. Back when I was in intermediate (Junior High I suspect) Dragon Ball Z was the big buzz, I wasn't a huge fan at first but once I started getting into it I quite liked it, could of been a bit more mature but oh well. I would definately have to say my favourite is Berserk though, I haven't seen the whole series, but I really enjoy watching it, I have always wanted to see a show set in this era but most things are done sub-par. Berserk is differant, better story, fairly mature and lots of fighting. I may look for the box set someday.

There is no question that I place Berserk as my top favorite candidate. The story is just different, I love the soundtrack, fighting scenes are really nicely done, animations in general are superb, etc.

Second would definitely be Cowboy Bebop. In contrast to Berserk, the time it's set in is completely different, however, it still delivers a pretty captivating and the cast of characters is really good. Animations are also really good just like Berserk.

My third absolute favorite of thus far seen animes would probably be Arjuna. Again, the animation work in each episode looks like the quality of some movies and the original storyline kicks ass. Not exactly what you're looking for in terms of brutality but it definitely has the mature factor covered.

I would also like to state that I'm completely neglecting anime movies in this list seeing as the outcome would differ dramatically.

This is a hard one to decide...(in no order)

    1: Elfen Lied
2: Berserk/Mezzo (series)...I can't choose between the two. Shoot me.
    3: Samurai Champloo/Fullmetal Alchemist

I feel like a son of a bitch because I'm leaving out sooo many other ones that I really like.

Other than my absolute favorite, it's hard to pick out three all-time favorites. So, I'll just go with what comes to mind.

Evangelion - Love, love, love, etc., etc., etc. I could go into the reasons I like this anime, but...Heh. On a sidenote, I was a bit put off by The End. Or rather...The unsurpassed love for it. Ugh.

Record of Lodoss War (OVA) - I had gotten into the TV series rather early, along with things like Dragon Ball Z. However, I found that I enjoyed the OVA much more. It's unfortunate that they had to rush the tale because of its 12 or 13 episode format, but I find it even more unfortunate that they had cut out half the story in the TV. D&D-based action with nicely drawn art is awesome, though. Now...Where's the manga? =(

Vision of Escaflowne - Har, I first saw this on FOX before its abrupt cancellation. I later heard they butchered it to Hell. Then I saw the movie and...Uh...Hmm. It was good, but I honestly cannot remember most of it (except that it was bloody). Then I bought the TV series on DVD and was exceedingly happy. Some don't like the fact that there's a drawn out love triangle/square/polygon in there, and some others may find some of the plot elements to be a bit bizarre, and then there was me who was unnerved by the ending...

    BUT IT WAS GOOD, DAMNIT.

The very first anime I ever watched. The original. The new OVA. Everything but the movies was worth watching... Somehow when translated to liveaction...you get Power Rangers, ><! But it's steeped in westerd and eastern Mythology. Plus lots of violence fanservice with flash that you can respect.

    2. Hellsing
Is the best Eastern understanding of vampires. They have all their facts backed up on the original literary sources. Not to mention two of the dead sexiest vampires and the sexiest of them all...Integra Hellsing.

    3. Bleach
A fascinating engrossing concept backed by solid characters. It's a little amazing how far the suspension of disbelief will stretch, but it's a great series. I should've put Cowboy Bebop here, but it was too short and Bleach delivers there where Cowboy Bebop falls short.

    3.Dragon Ball Z

Then again, I've only ever watched like five anime shows. So it's not much of a choice for me. Bleach has to be my favourite though. It's amazing...and the characters are really great. I need to catch up on the latest episodes though...school has been keeping me from watching them. And I havent watched much Naruto. But form what I've seen it's really good.

    1. One Piece

First and foremost, no Anime has entertained, touched, wowed, and moved me like this series has.

    2. Porco Rosso

My Favorite Miyazaki/Ghibli movie. I personally think it's better than a lot of the "big" Ghibli Titles like Spirited Away and Mononoke.

    3. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Well I don't know if this is an ALL time favorite. It's just one of the first that comes to mind. A close runner up would be The Cat Returns. Directed by the talented Mamoru Hosoda, no Anime has touched upon Teen drama in such a subtle, down to earth, real way like Tokikake.

Picking my absolute favorite, One Piece, is easy, picking additional favorites limited to just 3 are so hard.
