I know it's still in the alpha stages, so when will we have a solid product? I'm kind of interested in trying an online FF game.

Ironically, SE released some news about FFXIV. That version 2.0 will be released soon, basically their second go around for the game. Monthly payments will start in Nov or Dec of this year after SE extended the free-trial when it was initially released. Plans for the PS3 version is for it to be released late next year. There's a bunch of stuff that they changed. Like no more physical levels, only class levels. The fatigue system was trashed. Auction houses are coming back or are back. New traditional FF jobs, 7 so far, are to be released soon.
All the info can be found at the game's home site:

Version 2.0 Final Fantasy XIV This is the 2.0 page that gives info on what is going on in the future.
An article from a different source
They're doing away with the Seventh Umbral Era plot which will be unavailable to players. First "lost" Final Fantasy story perhaps?
Do note I have not played the game just looked up some stuff. With these changes it looks to be playable to me at least. Unfortunately I don't have the computer to run the game. I'll have to wait for the PS3 version.
Main series FFs Beaten - FF: 4x, FFII: 3x, FFIII: 3x, FFIV: 3x, FFV: 3x, FFVI: 4x, FFVII: 5x, FFVIII: 5x, FFIX: 3x, FFX: 4x, FFXII: 3x, FFXIII: 2x, FFXV: 2x
I believe FFXIV will be worth playing when it's released on the PS3.

Looks like it. If it was ready enough, PS3 version would come out with PC one, right?

So they haven't started making it yet or are they just ironing out bugs?
What I would like to know is if the PS3 FFXIV will use the wallet? I know I don't have a plastic card if the credit or debit kind, but if it was possible for the subscription to come out from the funds I put in my PS3 wallet.
I didn't like XI, but i might give XIV a chance in the future. how was the soundtrack?
So is the game playable yet or is PS3 still waiting for it to be polished?![]()
2.0 has now been renamed "A Realm Reborn"
I can't say what the game was like originally, but it's not bad in terms of gameplay.
Action is still very slow, questing well isn't like any MMO I've played, no map markers, you have to constantly read your journal to find out where to go. You definitely need some patience when playing.
It definitely is a beautiful game of you've got the PC to handle it.
I'd imagine the PS3 version will come when 2.0 comes.
For 20 bucks and a months worth of gameplay its pretty good if you have some time to kill. But there are definitely better MMO's to play ATM. If you create now though you get a free character transfer and I believe you can change the the looks when 2.0 drops.

I'm guessing FFXI is still way better, right?
I never played XI.
I didn't get into MMOs until WoWs original release. About the same time I got a job (imagine that).
This little community I'm in has quite a few people that play it and they love it.

They could probably provide you with a better answer.
And/or watch these let's plays, it's what originally got me to at least try the game.

I'm not sure if that's his latest video, but sambonz latest videos are the latest game patches.
I've not heard it called 'Road to Rebirth' unless that's what they call the build-up to the relaunch maybe? Because I was sure it was called A Realm Reborn.. Everything I've read indicated to that. There's a major graphics overhaul, quest changes, new maps and everything. Might as well just call it something else, but beta tests are running from October. Not sure if I'll try it or not to be honest but if the supposed improvements seem worth it a month free trial won't go amiss.
Yeah, that was just a typo I never fixed
Life's been a little hectic lately.
Haha not to worry
I just thought I might be wrong! Believe me, I always think that![]()
