It's been a busy week for Yoshida and the FFXIV team at E3 running multiple events for FFXIV. The last information event was the Letter from the Producer XV Part 2 for Patch 2.3 details. Most of the big talking points were for Frontlines, Crystal Tower and Chocobo/Housing.
Starting with Frontlines, it will be a maximum of 72 players, 24x24x24 match. It will allow the match to scale down to be 8x8x8 or 16x16x16 matches if it needs to be. Also there are no role restrictions like in the Wolves' Den and you'll be able to change roles back at the outpost during the match. So there is no required party make up at all. There is a special warhorse mount for Frontlines. It is for lv50 only and there will be an item level sync. Monsters will be in the area as well which will provide rewards when killed. There are flags to capture to be the main way to gain points.
Moving to Crystal Tower, the new area is called Syrcus Tower. The area is more vertical than the last area which was more flat and mostly just a large single floor. The current item level for gear planned to drop is il100 though it may change. The unidentified tomestones, oils and sands that are gained from Coil will be in the Tower, but will have a 30% drop rate and won't be in all at once. They are planning on introducing them over time through mid-term patches 2.35, etc. The focus will be moving as an alliance this time rather than splitting up.
Chocobo have a few things coming for them. Their points will be able to be reset, but their rank will also be able to exceed 10 and eventually gain enough points for everything. The breeding can only be done at the Free Company house for now, but eventually will be possible at the chocobo porters. The colors won't grant special abilities and will be hitting in 2.35.
Housing, the private rooms in FC's will not have a limit to the number. Their size will be a little more than that of a single floor for a small house. The cost to unlock it is currently planned at 300,000 gil, but it's not clear it's that a one time fee for the FC to unlock it or for each member to have their own. Naturally, only interior furniture can be placed it in.
Additional side notes, there will be no Gilgamesh in 2.3's story for Hildibrand, but he is not done appearing in the game. More entertaining fights like Gilgamesh are planned. A new story side quest will becoming in 2.3 involving the moogles. End game content for light parties are in consideration, but not planned at the moment.
The patch will be hitting on July 8th with the notes the day before.
