Housing Q&A

While releasing a video about how housing is going to work in the future, the development team also ran a short Q&A about the system and popular questions players had for the soon to be available feature. Many of the answers mention features people wanting would be in later patches like 2.2 or 2.3. There is going to be 40 exterior furniture items and 180 internal furniture at the release of the patch. The housing system is unlocked through rank for the FC. They did not say if the FC will have more ranks adds or if one of the existing ranks will unlock the house system. Features like gardens are coming in 2.2 and chocobo farm after 2.3.

Yeah, when they announced they were doing to do housing a while back it was the thing that got me interested. So this is going to be a lot of fun to try out. I'm interested in the group synthesis that they talked about and making your own airship in the house.

This looks awesome, player/guild housing in games has always interested me however the only one i've actually got on well with is the FFXI "houses". I can see this being a massive money sink as well, although with it being FC housing as opposed to single player housing it might make it a little easier on the wallet!

I like the idea of indoor gardens for the house as well, I never saw anything in the Q&A about group synthesis though where did you read about that Andro?

I believe it was in previous interviews. I'll have to hunt it down, but I'm pretty sure that they said that the group synthesis would be for things like making airships which is probably a very large undertaking.

I found a bit of an answer to where they talked about crafters working together. They don't go into details on how it works and to what degree they will work together, but this is what I could find so far.

Q: What are the advantages of making things in your underground workshop?
A: You'll be able to build airships and go adventuring with them. We were stuck on deciding whether to go with boats or airships, but we decided to go with airships first. We'd also like to do boats, but for now crafters will be able to gather together and build airships in these underground workshops. We'd like to introduce this before the first expansion.

Ahh so they'll have a use, I thought they might have just been purely cosmetic for a while then. That's pretty cool, at least it'll give people something else to work on instead of just grinding a dungeon x amount of times for gear haha

Yeah, you know people are going to be all over making an airship if it means they get to use it. I'm a little worried about to what extent that will be. Like can you fly on an overworld map or it is going to be a quick travel system.

Pointless if quick-travel, unless it's "free" quick-travel to all aetheryte locations.

Yeah, I know if it was quick travel it'd be free. I wanted overworld map travel and then when you pick a place to land you load into the map and the overworld map is just an instanced area. However, I don't know if they'll be able to do that on a technical level. It is why I'm worried.

I don't think its a problem on a technical level, other games have done similar things. It's whether you'd want to let people fly around and land wherever they want, it'd make half the landscape pointless once it has been released long enough, unless you have pre-specified landing zones in each area where the airships can 'dock'.
