is it free to play

so i just went to the final fantasy 11 site and it says downlode but it does not say if its free so can anyone tell me if its free or you have to pay

I looked at it just a little while ago, I think its $20 to buy the full game with every expansion, and then $11 per month and an additional $1 per character... but thats just from me skimming over it... I haven't actually started playing yet

I just started playing again yesterday. It costs 11.95 a month, and it's 1 dollar per month per character. I'm not sure about the upfront cost of buying the game.

Since we're on the topic though, you can get the current Ultimate Edition which contains all expansions for roughly $20.
