News Post New Screenshots for Lightning Returns

Out of the Gamescom event, Square Enix has released a batch of new screenshots that couple with the release trailer. It gives players a chance to see things a little more clearer or just still rather than quick cut away. There is a lot of things covered from the new area Wildlands, to new clothing, Sazh and other quests.

The first set focus on Sazh, who was recently revealed in the trailer to be returning for the game. In FFXIII-2 he appeared only in the DLC, briefly near the end of the main game. His focus now is his son, but it seems he have given up. It is like the eternal life they were all granted with his son's soul missing that has him not wanting to see Lightning.

Likely to be found in the Wildlands, Lightning discovered a village of moogles. Mog from FFXIII-2 appears to be in charge of the village, but tries to apologize to Lightning for what happened at the end of FFXIII-2. Lightning seems not to have any hard feelings with him over the matter, though she likely is focused with them towards other individuals. The moogle village is threatened by a group of monsters and Lightning is trying to save them.

One of the outfits Lightning will be able to use will come with a rapier that gives her better movements and evasion.

This set shows off more of the combat, but more specifically Lightning using one of her abilities to freeze time on the enemy. It'll allow her to get more attacks in, but will cost points from her pool that she has a limited amount available.

The last screenshots show off more of the Wildlands and what is likely the moogle village. Along Lightning's journey she'll also run across a wounded chocobo called the Angel of Valhalla. It seems that she'll be working to find it things to help it's recovery over the course of the game.

Screenshots look really nice... I guess I just hate the fact the game is set in a 13 day time peroid. Makes me feel like im playing within a time limit, and that is something I've always hated about any game. Especially RPG's where you should be able to take your time. But these screenshots do look really nice.

They said that they are encouraging multiple playthroughs. Since it is likely you won't see all of the content or do everything the first time around. So that will probably help things. A new game plus will help make following runs easier in general as well.

It all looks very good, there's no doubt this game will score high in this regard. The moogle kinda looks more like a fat baby than a moogle.

The blue text boxes are very reminiscent of the ones in VII, at least in my opinion.

I couldn't find the other one, but this is what you're looking for I think.

But yes, it'll probably score well. Mainline FFs usually do. But it is still up to the players to decide if they like it or not.

The moogle was like that in FFXIII-2 as well. It's a little wider than we're used to seeing, but it's been a while since Mog or a moogle was in game and not just a doll or reference.

The thing is Andro, am I the only one who doesn't want to playthrough an rpg over and over again for additional content? It ruins the game, its like reading a story over and over again with minimal changes. Im currently playing through chrono trigger and ill be damned playing through it all over again for a different 30 second ending... 5 times (or whatever). My Ideal RPG would be one that has an expansive multitude of optional quests and bosses, all of which can be completed before you win the game. Once the game is over, what is the point of continuing to grind and verse other bosses? Any games ending is the climax and anything afterward would feel just... pointless. Thats only my opinion.

I enjoy games that have replay value. Like you said, it's rather boring just replaying a game or re-reading book that is just the same. Knowing that there may be half of the content I missed because I was exploring and engrossed in something over there sounds great. If I play the game for 90 hours to see everything in a single playthrough or play for 90 hours in two playthroughs, I'm still spending the same amount of time and I've seen everything. Plus, some of the things probably will have greater context on a second play.
