The Playstation magazine Dengeki Playstation had an article covering Lightning Returns. It talked about the time for the game and the world.
Previously talked about, the train can be used to travel between areas in the game. However, the player will also have the option to walk to the different areas as well. The trains will allow for faster travel. They said that the game world is large, but the scale compared to the past games is unknown. It is also unknown if the areas will have loading times between them or if they will be using seamless travel if the player chooses to walk.
About the time for the game, it was already known before that time is a huge factor, especially for how long is remaining in the game before the world ends. However, they have also let it be known now that the day uses a 24 hour system. In the previous game FFXIII, the world worked on a 26 hour day, but in the process of the events from the games 2 hours were lost. This may be caused from the events in FFXIII-2, but not explained further. According to play tested done by Square Enix, the game was able to be completed in two to four days. They also said that speed of completion does not seem to impact the ending, so finishing in less time doesn't alter things. It does change what you get to see along the journey.
Additional information has it that while Lightning is the only playable character the game will resolve other characters' stories as well. They said that half of the monsters will be new in the game. The actions possible seen in the combat of the trailer will be mapped to face buttons, hence only four commands. Also Lightning will be limited in number of items she can carry.
