I liked the entire feel of XII from the battle system to the fewer number of characters. I occasionally like a game with a good variety of characters, but in this case I was happy to have fewer dynamic characters to develop. I know that the newer battle system was a gamble and most people either loved or hated it, but I really enjoyed it. I think the best part though was the loot system. A lot have people have expressed a desire to kinda "cut out the middle man", but I think it adds to the real feel that you don't get 500 gil from a wolf.... you get a wolf pelt. just kinda makes sense.
You know, I didn't like FFXII at first. I brought back in 2006 and didn't play through much. I sold it back afterwards. I think last year I brought it back and this time I played through it beginning to end. My memory is terrible, I think sold it again, but earlier this year I got it back and time I'm keeping it. I played through it again a couple months ago and I gotta say I freakin enjoyed it! I love it now. All those trials with the game just so I can grow to love it. Silly huh?
Anyway, I like the fact that you need to collect loot to acquire gil, don't get me wrong I like the old beat monsters to get gil trick like most past FF's before XII (not counting FFXI) but FF1-FFX. But acquiring loot was actually fun this time because it actually give you more choice then just attacking and beating the enemy flat out for the exp.
I liked ALL of the characters. I warmed up to Vaan, he's actually kinda cute in the FMV's :P Balthier, HE IS THE MAN. He is kickass, his accent, his looks, and sexiness all in one perfect package. Fran and Ashe were cool too. Ashe's involvement was actually the most interesting in the story, as she played a major role in the story but like FFVI the story wasn't just hers it was everyones. Basch was awesome too, he had that Roget man look about him and he was so kind warmed and protective of everyone. I liked and loved that in him. I didn't really feel connected to Penelo as much as I did to everyone else. She didn't stand out as much as everyone else.
As for the cities and towns...I loved them all. Especially Mt. Bur Ominisece (forget how you spell it), because it was a snow area and I love snow areas in FF games. The filler areas like Phon Coast for example were especially beautiful! Like Spira's Moonflow in FFX.
The NPC's were okay. Larsa was fantastic as a guest party member and he had some really good character development. Vayne was a d***. Pure and simple.
Overall I loved the game, I'm glad to I decided to keep the game, because there is always something new for me to do in the game for every play through. As they say: Nothing can be done in just one go. In this case a very awesome video game.
I personally liked the Mark missions cuz they were challenging (which is just how I like it!) and also when you killed a mark I thought it was pretty cool the way the word 'Vanquished' appeared on screen don't reaally know why I liked that part so much so don't ask!!! Unless anyone else felt the same too.
It might seem like a weird thing to point out as one of the things you really liked, but I guess I can agree there. I like the vanquished thing because of a general sense of accomplishment, especially after the really long challenging hunts. It gave it kinda the feel of a mission based game within an RPG
( I think I might be replying a bit too late...but oh wells  )
What I enjoyed most about FFXII, was the enviroment, the battle system, and some of the characters.
*The enviroment around them was pretty effin awesome IMO.
* I adored the battle system for the sole reason of because it was unique and awesome hehe :3
* Finally SOME of the characters were pretty cool. I loved Balthier,he was smexy lol  Fran was mysterious and just kick-a** IMO. And then Ashe,I don't really know why I like her..I just do lol. Vaan and Basch I didn't really like ( but I did start liking Basch towards the end of the game :o ). Penelo..idk..I didn't dislike her..I just..idk lol :shake:
Penelo is perhaps one of the most plain, boring and uninteresting characters in the entire series, not counting the personality-less (that a word?) people in the first three games. They really should've replaced Penelo with some badass character; perhaps some kind of ninja guy. FFXII had the cool character in Balthier, but I feel they missed that badass character you got in previous games. Take Shadow (FFVI) and Vincent (FFVII) for example.
I've actually been thinking about this game lately and have decided I want to play it next. Can't wait to play it again. I've only played it twice so far, but each time, it was really fun and memorable even.
I really liked the battle system, and the more-open world than FFX's.
Also, the license board was cool :D
The geography of the game, it looked a million bucks.
Unfortunately for me though, that isn't one of the things I prioritise in a game.
One of my favourite things about XII were the voices. I'm 100% completely and totally homosexual for those accents. I would kill for an accent like that.
The judges, I thought they were really cool. Especially Gabranth, I think he was the main reason I liked FFXII.
I liked that Square Enix took a chance and tried something different. Sure, it doesn't feel like a traditional Final Fantasy game but in some ways it offers a glimmer of hope of what the future of the franchise could be and where they might be leading the series.
I personally loved the gambit system and how fighting could be automated if you desired. The licence board was kinda cool too. The areas you visit in the game are all so different and so vast and i loved almost all the areas. Lastly, i have to mention the Espers. The Espers were my favourite bit of the game, i absolutely LOVED the battles with them.
I like the quickenings myself, they were pretty cool, but also the fmv were pretty sweet I'll be honest. The beginning video with all the warships, they were freaking epic! Plus I think the Tomb of Raithwall is pretty sweet, the thing is HUGE.
the battle system and the ability to travel ivalice
Now that I've played it a great deal more since I last posted here, i've realised that the thing I like the most about XII is the amount of history that is present in the game. I love this kind of thing and I think XII manages to pull it off excellently. Every town, city, landscape and location has a history reaching back hundreds of years. Even the monstors have some sort of history behind how they came to be in their current state.
The fight with a certain mark on the "big bridge" man that was fun!
I don't know what I liked best about FFXII, but the thing that made the game annoying was how long the game takes just for you to pass it ONCE. it was a KILLER! my sisters and i were all playing the game, and it look me FOREVER just to pass the first place (can't even remember the name, since the game is too long...). But I still one the game the way it is. I enjoyed it while it lasted. I kust need to pass it one more time...but who knows when that's gonna happen... :/
