Heres some assistance for Evangel and everyone else having trouble with Mateus, this is from the Piggyback Game Guide

Mateus is supported by 5 Ice Azers, aim to remove these from the fray immediately. try using a quickening chain, though this is very MP costly. Casting thundara several times is an option but beware if Mateus has reflect activated. Best off to attack them individually with thunder or lightning imbued weapons. Keep Shell active throughout the battle to minimise magick based damage against your team.
Once the Azers have been defeated, harass Mateus with physical attacks, especially if one of your characters is equipped with a Storm Spear. His Blizzaja attack can be devastating, causing damage and inflicting Sap at the same time. He uses it frequently towards the end of the fight. When you see a warning in the Information Box that he is readying this attack, immediately heal your team with a powerful potion or the strongest cure Magick at your disposal. Spreading your team out by having two characters use ranged weapons can be an effective tactic here. Cast Regen on anyone afflicted by Sap, and consider using the Beserk status effect on your primary damage-dealer - especially if he or she wields a Storm Spear. When the battle ends, you will receive Mateus the Corrupt, an Esper.

Hope this helps you out if you are still having trouble. Good luck with the game!

I would say your party should be around level 18-20 at the least. If I recall, I was highly overleveled and just kicked his ass. Also, use quickenings if you have them. Be sure to start a chain with other characters so you can do more damage. (Hopefully you have all level one or level two of them. ) Also, when facing him be sure to cast protect and shell on your party before he casts "Firaja". Cure your party when needed and I hope this helps.

EDIT: If I recall, I think he's weak against "water" or "ice". I'm not sure which one but be sure to cast one of them to see.

when i beat belias i had my party on only aroun lv 12-15 what you need is protect and shell and my stratergy was to have 2 people attacking him with water based attacks and the 3rd to heal, and just before he uses firaja you must use your quickening because you will go first causing mass damage to him, if you survive the firaja, heal straight away with that one character and continue putting pressure

It's very easy to tell, actually. When you cross into the Tracks of the Beast, if it's raining very hard when Bansat approaches you he will tell you the Gil Snapper has appeared. It can take a long time to actually make him spawn, though. I remember spending an obscene amount of time zoning and rezoning before it finally showed its ugly face. It takes patience, but you'll get it eventually.

after defeating him the first time go to phon coast were the fallen bjuerban is talk to him a key is next to him get it then go back to the bridge were you fought gilgamesh and carry on, remember the locked gate in the mines near the antlion open it with the key and go through
warning there is some incredibly tough monsters here so level up
there until you find a place with a single save point save it and caqst all positive status on your party and head into fight gilgamesh
have one person be a magic user whilst the others pummel his dog with physical attacks then focus on gilgamesh if you are not strong enough level up in the mines coz you can get a lot of exp from monsters in here
i defeated him with ashe as the healer vann with the zodiac spear and basch with the ragnarok which you get after defeateing ixion

I was having some trouble with the Chaos quest and was wondering if anyone had any similar problems or any solutions.

I'm stuck trying to get the 3 fragments to give to Rokenmou - I gave him the Blackened Fragment and the Grimy Fragment (from the thief hunt and the drunken soldier) but I can't get the Dull Fragment.

I know I input the correct gate sequence when I first got the sluice key, but I can't remember if I picked up the Dull Fragment or not. I'm fairly certain I did. Unfortunately, I can't remember if I gave the fragment to Rokenmou at that point or not, either. I did the hunt (White Mousse) as soon it was available, but right now I'm at the point where I killed Famfrit and Dr Cid at Pharos but before going to Bahamut. I've tried several times to input the correct gate sequence again without any luck.

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas about this.

Namely - where do I get it?

I have it enabled in the License screen, but its greyey out as I dont actully have Libra (is it a spell, item ??)

Where do I find it to enable it? I've tried every shop and been everywhere and got to the stage (mines) where I really need it to continue.

    Many thanks in advance

That's weird. You get the technick libra early on in the game. You sure you looking in the right place? The technick shop has a scroll icon on the map if I recall. It should be at Batahn's Technicks in Rabanastre. That's where I purchased it at. It could be at the Sky City of Bhujerba too.

Yup - thats the only Technick shop in rabanastre. Maybe i've left it too late? Seems strange if thats so as I REALLY dont want to go back to the beginning.

Did you have to sell anything to open up the Bazar items - is it in there?

no it is not at the bazaar. it can only be purchased through the technick shop. did you check in the sky city like fishie said. Technicks dont dissappear from the shops lists at any point, there will be more added the further you make it into the game though. this is going to sound really dumb but did you scroll down to see if it was at the bottom of the list (it should be at the top though)

If I recall and if truth be told it's been a while. Speak to Dantro, you would have helped him with a Mark (the Cactuar Flower) earlier in the game, and he'll ask you to visit his wife. She wants a deal of ingredients, the first of which you'll find by going back to Dantro. Then it's a case of just rinse, lather and repeat so to speak. Nothing is that hard to find really. The last item is found across the river in the village where Dantro's wife is (i.e. the opposite bank to where she's found) and once you complete the quest you'll recieve the key.

Any problems, feel free to PM me

i beat them senceless with mid level 50s, forget the summons and just take em out.
you dont have to take out the 3 goons, they are optional. if you are haveing trouble with them have your main party concentreate on one char at a time, taking out the magic caster first then take out another.

beat 2 of the 4 and take out the main guy thats what i did the first time and before i knew it the battle was over

So does anyone know how to find a leshac entitie AFTER you have already beaten fafnir? Please help i desprately need a leshac halycon because its one of the ingredients in the durndal and i have every armour, weapon, magick and assesory in the game except fot the durndal! Thanks for taking the time to read this.

umm the easiest way i found to find him was enter through the freywood. then when you do find him just go back to where you fought famfrit (which is 2 screens away) and return back to the previously mentioned area. The blizzrd will come eventually and so will it.

I'd like to know if the timed gates in the Great Crystal continue to be timed after killing Ultima. Also, after getting Ultima, do I have to go through that crazy maze of timed gates again to get Omega Mark XII?? I have all characters at level 82 and I think I can handle Omega.
