I haven't heard anything about an out of Japan release as of yet, but it's already on the Japanese PSN. It was released there back in September.

not cool, lol i love this game and my computer annoy me when trying to play it... i heard about the japan release and have been checking the PSN every week.
They should be workin on it,according to rumours.They said they have completed FFVII,right? Well that might be a hint sayin itll be here soon.

I have mine, too! But I do think it's neat that you can take FFVIII on-the-go with you by downloading it to your PSP from the PSN. Also, it gives gamers a chance to play it if they missed it the first time around and can't find any of the PSX copies of the game.

I have mine, I just don't need it since I use a emulator. Most of my friends who used to play Final Fantasy don't even care about it anymore, he just gave me his disk lol.

I still have my discs( 2 sets of them) but they wont work properly on my ps3 as they frequently freeze. Just so frustrating.
I still have my original copy of the game and in fact I'm playing it right now. I'm tempted to grab it off the PSN Store though just for convenience and to port it over to my PSP if I wanted to. Especially if the digital copy of the game could read my disc-based save file...
If your discs are freezing a lot, try cleaning them. I had the same problem with my original copy of IX, the PS3 appears to be more sensitive to dust or something and it kept freezing up on the opening FMV. Gave my disc a good wipe down and haven't had a problem since.

Im tempted to get it, My discs got destroyed by stupid little brothers a couple of years ago, I was VERY upset. So i may have to purchase it. Im long overdue another playthrough of it.

I had made it to Ultimecia's Castle for my first time when they released it on the PSN. The timing was not in my favor ;]
