Thinking about remakes of the magnificent FFIX and other games in the series, got me wondering about who owns what.

I'm sure Nintendo published the 1st 6, but we've had I and II getting redone for PSP and iPhone. And III for DS was originally gonna be on PS2.

But what about the next 6? Did Sony just publish them, or did they fund development and have any right to the games futures?

I don't have a PS3 so am unsure about what chance the Xbox has of downloads or remakes. Same for 3DS. While it is VI I'm most interested in getting a remake for 3DS (surely very likely cos of III and IV on DS) but what about the PS1 and PS2 FF games.

This has bugged me for ages. Does anyone know how much power over the games Sony have?
