Oh true but, they were working on it for the ps2, they then needed to "completely revamp" the whole game, which means they really only spent 4 years.
But, FF7, they already have basic storylines, basic areas, basic boss outlines and stuff haha

Your pathetic existence will shut down. I will make your lives end in ruin. Fear me, as you fear death. Not a threat, not a promise, but what must be finished. 7 final arcs...
No they were working on it for the ps3. It was going to have it's american release in early 2009, but a lot of delays happened. Alot of game developers will start work on a game a few years before it's console even comes out, simply because they already have the software to make that kind of game.
From a financial standpoint it would be stupid of SE to not remake it. VII has a large fanbase and as has been demonstrated already, many fans will buy anything related to it. There's a reason why it's the only game with a Compilation. I wouldn't be surprised to find that they've already decided to, they're just sitting on it while they work on other games and doing a poor job of deflecting while they're at it. That it comes up in conversation at all is telling enough, imo.

Sounds to me like they are trying to do it the Apple way... tell everyone that a FFVII remake is a stupid idea and that they refuse to ever make it because of X, Y, and Z. Then wait a while, make it and call it "revolutionary".
Honestly, I could care less either way. I still say FFVII overshadowed the best game of that time, which to me was Xenogears, the niche game that didn't get nearly the love it should have.
Ummm 99% of the people that played VII wouldn't even catch the Xenogears reference, even people that have played Xenogears. VII did nothing to help XGs. VII constantly outsold XGs until it was pulled off the shelves and then the greatest hits edition came oit for VII and gears was laid to rest until Saga was announced and Square let the franchise slip away. Sad thing is most people that have played saga still don't know of the exsistance of gears.
I am with Merlin though on the over shadowing comment.
A VII remake is inevitable as most people have stated, its just a matter of when and how much money they can make off of it.

FF7 still had the Xenogears ad on the back of the instruction manual though..(which admittedly isn't much of an argument), but still that had to have helped a bit. I can't sit and say that the reason Xenogears had fail-sales isn't because of VII's timing, but i will say that the final fantasy franchise in whole owes alot to VII in terms of how many fans it brought into the series. So i can't blame Square for going strong with Final Fantasy as oppose to Xenogears.

Me and my missus have been following the issue of a remake for a while now and we have both put our names on a petiton (sorry can't remeber the sit that petiton was on) for a remake of the game. We really would love Square-Enix to do a remake they would make a killing on it. But last I heard was that Kitase said a remake was going to be done when he could speak to the people who worked on the original. However a few weeks later I read that Kitase had changed his mind because the main programmer of the origional he said it would take around 9 - 10 years to make because to make it high definition would take forever and therefore it was not feasible idea. However they said if they could remake the game in a year or two they would seriously consider it so with technology moving at the speed it is ther may still be hope in the future. Hope this helps to clear things up.
